I know this has been discussed here before. Does anyone know how to do a clean install of Windows and keep the Express Cache functionality? Thanks.

Someone already posted the solution: don't format the SSD partition, after windows installation you can download Easy Setting installer to activate Express Cache.

Ok, so I'm in the install Windows screen. After reformatting the hard drive and leaving the Disk 0 Partition 1 (7.5GB) alone, I try to install to one of the two partitions I created and get this error:

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition".

    EDIT:

Nevermind. Apparently repartitioning your HD voids your warranty if you send it back in? I'm restoring it to it's factory condition now. :\ Bummer.

I need info on this as well. I reformatted my Series 5 with Express Cache and need to set up "Express Cache." How does one do this?

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately in my situation, I don't even have Windows installed right now. I removed all partitions and attempted to do an installation.

All I'm getting is "missing operating system" and it won't recognize my USB flash drive, so that I can re-install Windows again.

    Any ideas?

Are you directly booting using the usb from the bios? or get a Windows 7 disc?

I'm booting the USB flash drive directly from the BIOS. I don't generally install Windows 7 from a DVD these days.

I think the problem is with the Express Cache drive ... Windows 7 Ultimate wants to create the 100MB Bitlocker volume on "disk 0" which happens to be the SSD. This seems to be causing the "missing operating system" next time it reboots.

I have been working through this for several hours now, and even called Samsung Support who was totally useless. The rude guy just kept telling me that installing a "custom operating system" was "unsupported." I was pleading with him to simply send off an e-mail or call up their product engineering group to ask them to provide public documentation of how to install Windows 7 from scratch in a supported way.

    Has anyone else tried this?

Windows will create a System Reserved partition with 100MB and that does not affect the SSD. The SSD uses a different type of partition, which is HFS, and Windows does not recognize that without anysoftware like MacDisk because that is the type of partition from Mac. After you install Windows, install MacDisk with the service (don't remember what is the name but it will prompt to be install ed after you finish installing MacDisk). Then follow the instruction and partition the iSSD. Then install ExpressCache SDK and driver along with Easy Setting. Reboot 1-2 time(s) and ExpressCache will be back.

I used diskpart to create the HFS+ partition.

Install On A Partition Simple And Accurate - OSx86

    DISKPART> Select disk 0
    DISKPART> create partition primary id=af
    DISKPART> list partition

Don't use DISKPART, there is a program call MacDisk from the other topic. It's easy to do with MacDisk and it won't mess up with the others.

Here is the link to download if you don't want to look it up
    Code:

I install a new fresh version from original Winows 7 disc not from Samsung. I did so many time on my old laptop. The thing about EC that you need to follow the post about how to enable it back after installing Windows.

What you can do right now is find a program that can recognize EC partition at DOS. Then delete that partition and the other or at least format it. After that, install Windows into the HDD, then follows the topic to get EC back.

Yep, you can try this. Or, you can disable the EC from BIOS and try installing Windows.

    Hi,
Hope someone can help me I also got a Series 5 (530U) Samsung laptop and started to installed Win7 Ultimate 64bit.
So I done a diskpart clean on the Express cache disk and the 500GB HDD (Disk0 and Disk1).
I then installed windows which put the 100Mb on the ExpressCache Disk and failed to boot.

So I cleaned both disks again and created the HF+ parition using diskpart as described previously on this post and now windows can't use disk0 which is fine. But when I try to install to the HDD (disk1) I get the error Setup was unable to create a new partition, so I assume it wants to use disk0.

Has anyone managed to get Windows installed and working correctly from a clean install????

    Thanks!

    Hi All,
I got my laptop (530U3C-A01UK) manually reinstalled with Win7 Ultimate 64bit and all drivers including ExpressCache working again using the diskpart fix listed in the thread.
It appears to be working fine but when I reboot the laptop every time I get an error saying "Samsung has stopped working" and the event log shows that the ExpressCacheRun64.exe version 1.0.0.2 has failed calling ecapi64.dll

Has anyone else this issue, it does look like ExpressCache is working (currently using 3.6GB of the 24Gb partition).

I disabled ExpressCache inside Express Settings, rebooted and reenabled and rebooted again.
But once its enabled I get that error on startup, appears to be working but I want to fix that error on startup if anyone has any advice?

There's no need to post the same question in two threads. Indeed, it is considered to be bad forum etiquette.

    Hi,
Yes I got it installed, I used diskpart from the windows 7 dvd to clean both disks.
I then rebooted and went back to disk part and created the HFS+ partition on disk 0 (SSD) and rebooted and installed windows onto the 500GB HDD (disk1) and it worked.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi everyone,

I also tried to do a fresh Windows install, but I'm not getting there.
Firstly, the SSD cache in my NP700Z3C is disk 1, the HDD is disk 0.

    EDIT:
I'm trying to install Win7Pro from a USB stick.
When trying to install Windows Home which comes with the Laptop on a DVD,
it shows the SSD as disk 0 and the HDD as disk 1. The solution by IrishLad then
works. I'll burn a win7pro DVD and see if this works too.
    /EDIT

    EDIT2:
Installing from DVD works with the method described by IrishLad.
    /EDIT2

    I tried all this:

    1. Obviously, I changed disk 0 and 1 for me. Didn't work, getting the "Setup was unable to create a new system partition" error.

    2. Just removed all partitions, then set up a 100GB partition on the HDD. Windows installed without problems, but it doesn't start - because the system file partition is being built on the SSD cache. I searched google for a way to manually tell the installation process where to put the system file partition, but to avail.

    3. All other methods, involving creating a partition on the SSD and setting it to offline, inactive, making it extended instead of primary, etc. all result in "Setup was unable to create a new system partition" when trying to install Windows on the HDD.
I'm running out of ideas rather fast than slow. Anybody else got this ro work?

    Cheers,
    ~wangtang

Hi I just got the 15" Series 7 and installed a 240gb SSD. I am really happy with it. I read I do not need the Expresscache as I have the ssd, I was just wondering is there another purpose I can use the 8gb iSSD besides additional storage?

People have found uses such as the swap file but, to be honest, given the slow speed of the iSSD compared to a good SSD, extra (but rarely used) storage, is probably the best use.

    Hello!

I'm having the same problem as Wang Tang. HDD is disk1 and SSD is disk 0. When installing Windows 7, the reserved system file partition is built on disk 0, ence the solution from IrishLad does not work.
I have a Samsung series 5 and therefor no CD/DVD drive. Have to install from USB.

Has anyone found a solution in this case?
