My hard drive died. Best Buy won't replace it because they claim there was some remnants of liquid on the mother board. I have to put a completely empty hard drive into my computer, and I don't have the Samsung Recovery on disc, I have it on USB. I need to know how to actually go about installing it. Do I just plug the jump drive into a port, and it takes care of itself, or do I have to press some button like F10, F12, etc. I think the Recovery is about 13 gigs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first computer I've had to recover via jump drive, so I'm a bit nervous about it. Thanks again for any help. :)

    Hi celebfan, welcome to NBR.

If the USB backup you created is one created in Recovery with the Create Boot Disk option enabled, then you should be able to simply plug it into a USB port and press F10 on boot to select it as boot device. Alternatively, you can change the Boot Priority in BIOS to have the USB on top.

This assumes your computer came with Win8 originally (earlier models didn't have that backup feature in Recovery).

Depending on the type of USB backup (Factory Image or Windows State) it will either re-create everything on the new disk (including Recovery and factory Windows installation) or just the Windows partitions.

In any case should you disable Fast BIOS in BIOS settings (if you have that option) otherwise it won't boot from USB. You may have to also change your UEFI settings, although we have mixed reports about that. If it won't boot the USB, set SecureBoot=disabled and OS Mode Selection=UEFI & CSM OS. If prompted during boot, select the UEFI-USB boot option. You can set these BIOS options back after completed restore.

Please let us know how it goes.
