Hi folks. I need a new laptop, preferably light but hey ... I have a Samsung NC10 and though slow and too small a screen I really like it. The screen for me is the best out of all manufacturers.

Now I need a faster notebook, a bit bigger screen at least 12.1 inches, and I want that same matte screen as on the NC10. What are my options? And what is the best deal overall? I need the computer for business, I do a lot of Skype so decent enough speakers as well, plenty of storage ... and the usual office stuff.

Thank you .... ah and yes preferably no glossy outside etc. matte as well if that exists

The Samsung P series are aimed business users and usually have non-glossy displays. For 12.1" look at . The next size up is the P410.

John Thanks for that. I looked at both the P210 and P410 & P460. I believe the P460 is matte as well. do you know if these screens are LED? It only says superbright anti-glare. One assumes they are LED but it does not say. By the same token is that NC10 screen a LED screen. I have notices my eyes cannot handle a lenovo LED screen, different quality? The P210 is very ideal apart from weighing too much. The P460 apparently has heat issues, what about the P210. Wonder if anyone has one of these machines. It is bewteen that and the Lenovo X200 series.

The P210 is relatively old: It is a non-glossy version of the Q210. I don't know about the display. LED backlighting was less common when the P210 was introduced.

Another notebook that I suggest that you look at is the Dell E4300. These can be found for reasonable prices in Dell outlet or at people who resell the Dell outlet stock. I've got one and it has a very good LED-backlit display although some people have complained of poor viewing angles. Prices may drop further with the imminent arrival of the E4310.

thanks for that ... a bit afraid of a Dell, does it run very hot at all or OK ? What about the P410 and/or the P460, any good ? Wish I could view them in a store here, but no luck

The Dell business notebooks are of a better quality than their consumer models. I have no heat issues with my E4300. A built-in optical drive means there is also room for a reasonably sized fan.

The Samsung P410 and P460 are the non-glossy versions of the R410 and R460. There may be some reviews of those models. But, if you are thinking of 14.1" then you might want to consider a screen resolution of 1440 x 900. That makes the Dell E6400 another possibility.

Jon fo rme that most important things are quiet laptops with not too much heat. Does the DELL 4300 need fans a lot ? The Samsung NC10 is very quiet and so are the Lenovos. But I need a better screen than Lenovo ... Wish I could get a P460 and a Dell E4300 and compare ... then send one back. In europe this is not possible ...

I had the E4300 running on full load for an hour earlier today and I could just hear the fan running. However, I should point out that I have the CPU undervolted to 1.05V (from 1.1125V) which reduces the heat under full load.

Your decision should be driven by your size and weight preferences and what you can find. I see there's an E4300 on ebay for £650 which has a 3 year warranty but only 2GB RAM and 80GB HDD. itcsales (where I got my E4300) have no stock of E4300's at the moment.
