 My eight year old nephew has just knelt on my brand new Q35 (bought from PC World thru Business sales) just 10 days ago!
Screen is cracked and gone mostly black!
    Can you suggest anything?
    No insurance.
Can I take it back to PC World and ask what?
    Screen replacement?
    Costs?
    Any other suggestions?
Nothing added to it as yet in software department.
    TOTAL DISASTER!! :(

you could go and say when you opened the box and turned it on it was like that? (if you want to be dishonest, and lie, which i don't recomend). But if you tell them what happend, im sure they will be comsiterate, ot just go there and say you want to return it.

    Good luck

Something tells me that if you say you got it that way, they'll know you are lying. PC makers just do not ship stuff like that.

You'll need to replace the screen...check and see if it would be covered under warranty anyway though. Be honest.

Ouch! Not something I would recommend for any computer, even a Panasonic Toughbook.

Was it closed or open at the time? Was the computer on the floor?

It is unlikely that this will be covered by Samsung's warranty (but you can try) and I hope you find a suitable clause in your household insurance. See here for the UK companies who do out-of-warranty repairs for Samsung notebooks.

From my work I know Comet have a service called "On Call" and they can replace damaged LCD screens (including 12.1" notebook screens as I quizzed their rep on this matter). Pricing may be available on the Comet website, if not then you can certainly view what the service offers in store.

Further thought: If the bill for a new screen is too horrendous, you could turn the Q35 into a mini-desktop with an external monitor. Not quite what you had in mind, but better than nothing.

But I've just done some Googling and found this place which seems to offer laptop screen repair for £85 + VAT. However, if your panel is physically broken the n you will need a new part, at extra cost. Unfortunately, those smaller panels tend to be more expensive than bigger ones. This US site lists some prices. You need a panel with W in the part number. There is the option to get a "blemished" panel with a significant saving. I would suspect that these have some duff pixels. A UK company which handles part is ClonesUK, but it doesn't list the Samsung panels.

I attach the Samsung tech specs sheet which gives a little more info about the LCD panel, but it doesn't give the part numbers. Device Manager sees my Q35's panel as SEC4141 but Google can't relate this to any panels. There is probably a separate physical part number.

Let us hope that you can find cover under an insurance policy. Perhaps we should back-date this thread while you purchase and register the Samsung FasterCover policy?

The part number for the LCD panel is BA59-01889A or BA59-01893A, they both refer to "LCD PANEL-12.1WXGA_GLARE"

    Steve,

If I were you I'd do the following:

    1) Varify that you are not under any type of warranty. Most warranties don't cover accidental damage..
    2) Remove the screen and get the part number off the back of the screen.
    3) Contact a company like http://www.screentekinc.com and see if they have your screen in stock.
    4) If not, Google search that part number, or even in eBay.
    5) Order the screen and replace it yourself, saving time and money.

You can get removal/installation instructions on that ScreenTek site.

God speed. Don't worry - millions of people break or damage their screen every year. It happens and can be fixed rather easy..just..might cost a little bit.
