I will edit the thread title so that people can see you want info about the P55.

Did you see this thread? There's a link to a quick review of the P55.

I've never seen the P55 but my general impression is that it has similar build quality to the X60 / X60 plus / X65 for which reviews are available.

You can download the P55 user guide here.

Hey guys I'm reinstalling windows xp pro sp2 for a friend on the p55...have any idea where i can get the original drivers for the p55? I've been searching for hours with no luck... another question is that if i backup the current drivers on the laptop using a driver backup program, then reinstall windows xp pro...would i be able to reinstall manually all those backed up drivers without problems? Thanks

How about looking at the Samsung download site? Or maybe you would prefer SamsungPC. The content should be the same but sometimes is not?

    John

PS: It would be worthwhile building a new installation CD using nLite and including both the Samsung drivers and SP3 for XP. That way you will get an installation which requires ar less patching.

I'm glad to hear you are happy. I actually gave it a close look because I would prefer a non-widescreen display, but the overall size was just a bit big for me.

Again your expert eye for details is correct!! It's a bit on the bulky side to be carried around... I specifically chose this model coz I don't intend to bring it out of my house... I'm just after the processor and the videocard for gaming. Guess what, all the games I download from the internet worked as compared to my old laptop which has an integrated videochip... I couldn't find a better bargain!! I do noticed that some of the features are not present like the Samsung doctor, and the Fn+F2 key which checks the battery.... Also there's no webcam.. I'll give it an 8 out of 10, hope that's a fair score... cheers!!

You can get those features. Get the software off the download site (see link above and then go to the software tab). I can never remember if it is the magic keyboard or easy display manager to gets the Fn keys working properly.

I was able to download the following Samsung software: Magic Doctor, Battery Manager, Magic Keyboard, Easy Display Manager. But when I try to download the Recovery Solution II, it says: THERE'S NO SAMSUNG RECOVERY AREA IN YOUR HARD DISK... Any suggestions on how I could make a Recovery Area in my Hard disk? As I found this software very useful in the event that my laptop contracted a virus, this Recovery solution would be most helpful in saving all my previous content from being totally deleted.. Thanks again!! :D

Do you have more than one partition? From a quick look at the Recovery Solution manual it appears that an image of C: is saved onto D: You can access the recovery solution by pressing F4 or F7 at the BIOS splash screen.

Thanks for the info John! Since this is a second hand unit, it doesn't come with a Recovery Solution Manual. I was only able to secure an owner's manual through your post of the download link... I check the hard drive and there is no partition, only Drive C is available.. I also tried pressing F4 and F7 on two separate BIOS splash screen but each time it came out nothing... Is it possible to make a partition now? If not, what are my other options to make a Recovery Solution? Thanks and more power!!! :)

I think you may be out of luck. I have distant memories of Samsung providing a disc which would create a recovery partition, but it needed to be used with a new HDD before installing the operating system.

In that case, how about if I just buy an EXTERNAL HARD DISK DRIVE and back up all my files there? But I heard that EXTERNAL HARD DISK are very fragile, and a few bumps will break the drive... Can you give me the pros and cons of EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE? Your really very helpful John!! Thanks a lot!!

External HDDs (particularly 2.5" models) are quite durable provided you do not drop them while they are running. When the drives are off and the heads are parked then they can tolerate a lot of movement and vibration. I've been using them for more than 10 years without any reliability problems.

hello!! I just bought a Western Digital 160GB external hard drive for my Samsung Sens P55 notebook.. It works like a charm when transferring files but when I click the SAFELY REMOVE icon on the lower right of the screen to safely eject the external hard drive, I get this message: TROUBLE EJECTING USB.... TRY EJECTING LATER!! I did try ejecting it a couple of times but still it says the same thing... So I tried trouble shooting it but it all came out fine... So what I did was to turn off my laptop first, then after checking that the light on the external hard drive is turn off , that's the time I unplugged it... I returned the external hard drive back to the store where I bought it and explained what happen.. The store staff tried my external hard drive on their desktop and came out ok when clicking the SAFELY REMOVE ICON... (What the???) In view of the working SAFELY EJECT function in the store, they won't give me a replacement nor a refund... GGGRRR!!!! Right now I'm really confuse why my laptop won't recognize the SAFELY EJECT ICON when I plug in my external hard drive!!! But when I use other usb's like flashdrive, memory card, or even connecting my cellphone with a usb cable, the laptop recognizes the SAFELY REMOVE ICON and there's no problem ejecting it... I have 2 questions that I hope you tech guys can help answer:
    1. Is my problem an isolated case or does this thing really happen? (OH WHY ME???)
    2. Since I can't get a replacement and I'm stuck with this one, if my problem persist and my laptop won't recognize the SAFELY EJECT ICON, what should I do to SAFELY REMOVE MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE as not to subject it to an error or worse breakdown?
    Thanks!!

I've been on the road and effectively off-line. I have to earn some money to pay for my new computer. :D

I have the same problem with external HDDs. Once they are attached for a few minutes then Windows won't let them go. I think XP is worse than Vista in this respect. It's probably background processes that have decided to check out the new HDD. Possibly indexing or a virus scanner. My normal solution is to make sure I have finished using the HDD then just pull the plug out. Anything that is reading the HDD will just accept that it has disappeared. The only possible hazard is that defragging software has decided to go to work and is moving something when you pull the plug.

If you are really worried then shut the computer down then unplug the HDD.

I waited for like an hour and it's still showing the same message with no error or any other messages to inform me if there's anything wrong with the installation... Is this normal? I don't want to interrup the installation as it might affect my laptop.. Pls. pls can anybody help me? I really don't know what to do...By the way, I'm using the driver that comes with the package of the laptop, it's MODEM_WINXP_SP3_2.1.73.O

Something is evidently hanging. What does Device Manager show? It is possible that the driver has been installed by the installer didn't close properly.

    John

PS: Any idea what the AMT is on the BIOS options?
