Graphics Card Switching Problem

I recently bought a Samsung RC512, which has two graphics cards in it. One is the integrated Intel card, and the other is a nVidia GeForce GT 525M. The problem I have with this is that while the nVidia card should kick in when I play games, the switch doesn't happen when I run a game I have on Steam. I've tried adding Steam and a couple of the games to the nVidia control panel list (to make the games use the GeForce), but to no avail. I would normally check for new drivers, but both nVidia and Intel's support sites tell me I have to get the drivers from Samsung, even though Samsung doesn't have the RC512 listed on its support page. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to fix it?

Yes, but they were incompatible. I was considering doing a brute force kind of workaround by disabling the Intel card completely and just using the nVidia card, but that's a less than ideal solution and I'm hesitant to do it, anyway.

 

That wouldn't work. Many forum mates tried that unsuccessfuly. Odd that it is incompatible... Maybe try to DL a modified driver?

I recall seeing a few comments about this during the past few months. I don't have first hand experience of this hardware but recall that the switching should be automatic. How well / badly does the game run on the Intel GPU?

Phistacio - Yeah, it said that it couldn't locate any drivers for my hardware. I guess there just aren't any yet. I wouldn't know where to get a modded driver, so I can't see myself doing that.
John Ratsey - The switching should be automatic, and it is, at least for games directly on the PC. StarCraft II runs fine. The problem lies with Steam being the intermediary, which isn't recognized as a game. At least, that's what I'm thinking. The Intel GPU isn't terrible; it can run older games like Half Life 2 nicely, but with more modern games like Just Cause 2 (which I use because it has a handy benchmark option), the framerate drops to around 20 FPS or lower.

I forgot to tell you, have you tried DL'ing the drivers from samsung's site? The NVIDIA drivers won't work with switchable graphics, so you need to dl the drivers from the manufaturer's site, in your case, from samsung.

 

I've checked and downloaded all the most recent drivers from their website (since they've finally listed my notebook). I also got a driver update for the nVidia card from Samsung's update program. The only driver I had a problem with was the Intel integrated card, for some reason. When I tried to install the driver I got from Samsung's website, I was told that "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software." Any thoughts on this? The latest nVidia driver seems to recognize Steam as a game now, but it's like the Intel card doesn't want to let go of the actual games on Steam.
