    Hi,

I was just wondering what you guys think of gaming on the Samsung R780. The only games I have tried playing so far are Battlefield 2, LOTR Rise Of The Witch King, and Call of Duty 4 and I could run all of them on max graphics. Feel free to share your gaming experiences and how your games run on this laptop! Also comment on how much the laptop heats up you play. I'm just curious about how the gaming experience of the R780 has been for you guys.

*BTW, I know this product is in high demand in the U.S. and I noticed today that the i5 edition is back in stock at bestbuy!* Here's the link: Samsung - Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 17.3" Display / 4GB Memory / 500GB Hard Drive - Red/Black - NP-R780-JS01US

Gaming performance is influenced more by the GPU than the CPU. The CPU can vary within and between countries (see this German site for the full range i3 up to i7-720QM) but all models appear to use the nVidia GT330M GPU. See this list at notebookcheck for the GPU's performance in various games and benchmarks.

I was looking for responses to be more personal and for people to talk about their own experiences with gaming on the R780 and how gaming is for them but thanks for the info anyway.

I wouldn't expect good gaming from a gt330m at all. 5870m is where it's at for gaming. I'd say go for the asus g73 at best buy if you want a decent gaming experience.

I'm not asking you if the GT 330M is good for gaming or not, I'm asking owners what they're experiences have been with gaming on the R780 (or GT 330M).

I have had experience with the GTX260m, and found newer games to be extremely sluggish. The GTX260m actually performs better than the 330m by a decent margin...and from what I've read, the GT330m is the same as the GT240m...so people who have experience gaming with a GT240m should also be able to chime in. Seems to play L4D, and older source games well enough though.

I just played the Mafia 2 demo on max graphics and it ran great and the graphics looked amazing. The R780 does get a little hot in the upper left corner on the bottom of the laptop but other than that it seems like the GT 330M has been working well for me. Thanks for the input, I'm adding to your rep.

I don't game (beyond solitaire while talking on the phone), but my kids have been a little. But, their choice of game is Football Manager 2010 and NBA 2K10. The latter is the most graphics intense and seems to run well. At least they don't complain and whenever I watch over their shoulder everything appears smooth. Also, my R780 has the i5 430M and 310M GPU. The model number include "AU" so it might be an Australian only model.

Yes, and UK models have numbers ending with "UK", etc. Each Samsung country sales office orders a batch from the factory with the hardware that they think will sell and that hardware combination has a unique part of the model number. The UK currently has five  different versions of the R780 with different hardware and prices.

Well , I bought mine 2-3 weeks ago and I have 2 major problems

the only game i'm playing is World of warcraft

Lots of wireless disconnection with my R780. I have to go back in windows
to reconnect to my home wireless. I also have a Alienware M17x that never looses the wireless connection

My second problems is the video stuttering / Lag .. that is very irritating .

I mean, the laptop is nice but far from perfect .. the Ar9285 wireless card is giving me Hell and for the Nvidia video Drivers, I installed the lastest 258.96.
Can someone give me a more stable version for this notebook ?

The Win 7 Atheros driver (8.0.0.279) on the Samsung download site is dated 17 September. It might be newer than what you have. However, you may need to download it to find out. Samsung sometimes, confusingly, put new dates on old files.

hmm i'm still have random disconnection .. i could play for an hour and then I loose complete connection.

i have to go back in windows and reselect my home wireless connection to reconnect.. As for the video stuttering, it's not as bad but still present

That's either a very poorly mounted heatsink, broken fan or the cooling system is blocked up by fluff (might you use your computer on soft surfaces?). I would start by buying a can of compressed air and try to clean out the cooling system. A partly unbent paper clip can come useful for hooking out lumps of fluff.
