Do you guys know if there's a way to force-reboot the notebook other than holding down the power button?

I was booting from a usb stick, had a kernel panic and I can't make the machine reboot any more, it's just sitting at the last screen. I can leave it like that for the whole day, the batter should drain eventually I guess, I'm just wondering if there's a better way..

    Thanks!

Check the user guide: There may be a hole in the base (with a little crossed out battery icon alongside) through which you poke an unbent paper clip to disconnect the battery (after disconnecting the PSU). The manual for my Series 9 says the battery will be reconnected once mains power is reconnected but I haven't needed to test this facility.

I was booting my NP700Z5A from an ubuntu USB stick yesterday, but then I pulled the usb key while it was still booting. It caused a kernel panic which was normal, but then I wasn't able to shut down the machine with holding the power button.

I left the battery drain during the day, but now it doesn't boot up any more from the SSD. It gets through POST, grub and starts loading the kernel but then it stops with "[Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored". I've researched this error, but it doesn't seem to be relevant and again I didn't change anything in the OS.

The weird thing is that it doesn't boot from liveCD or the usb key either, it just stops after the boot menu with a blinking cursor.

Any ideas? Is it possible that completely draining the battery messed up something?

I'll put back the original Windows 7 HDD tonight and see what happens..

    Thanks,
    PZ

    Thanks John,

Indeed there is a hole on the back of the laptop, (there are no labels or anything around it) but the paperclip pushes a button that disconnects the battery and you won't be able to turn it back on without the PSU.
