Yesterday I took delivery of my Samsung Series 9 Ultrabook.

    • Gorgeous it really is
    • Very Light in weight
    • Screen is great
    • Trackpad personally I need to get used to it

I have been spending today setting up, getting rid of bloatware and figuring out how to sort our the problem with the lack of space left on the 128SSD. I knew it was going to be a problem before I bought it but there is no option to increase to 256 SSD so your really stuck.

The 128GB SSD is partitioned approximatley as follows:
    21 GB - Recovery Partition
    100mb - System Partition
    9GB - Hibernation Partition
    89GB (36GB used 53GB free)- C Drive (Windows)

I decided to see if I can remove the Recovery Partition and gain some extra space. Found this page with a clear guide ( How-to delete the hidden recovery partition on Samsung 9 Series laptop | ESX Virtualization)

Now a warning, you must make sure you have a backup of the current state of the SSD. I followed Vladan and used Acronis to do a full image backup of the drive. I also used Samsung's Recovery solution which is installed on the machine. This backups up an image of the current state of windows. Also you can backup the drivers and samsung software.

I now have the following setup for the 128GB SSD:
    100MB - System Partition
    119GB - (39.8GB used 79.2GB free)- C Drive (Windows)

I do have a bit of problem with regards to booting from USB. I tried some work around's but they still haven't worked yet.
Would love to hear if anyone has worked out how to do it.

    Bloatware
Now I am removing the bloatware installed. I use Revo Uninstaller.
Here is a list of the bloatware installed on these machines ( danpereda.com)

I'll keep this thread upto date if I have any problems, but right now the machine is running ok. I am finding a little hard using the track pad. I keep highlighting files or text on webpage. I have to sit down and learn how to use it properly.

1 small problem I have found with the USB 3.0 port is that it is very close to the power socket so I can't fit my usb stick while the power cable is in. I can fit the standard usb cable which you use with external drives so that is ok.

    1. To boot from USB you first need to disable the Samsung fast boot in either Easy Settings or in the BIOS (fast boot skips checking the USB ports for bootable devices) then, unless your bootable USB drive includes USB 3.0 support use the USB 2.0 port (Acronis 2012 can make a bootable flash drive which includes USB 3.0 support).

    2. A DIY upgrade to 256GB is a DIY option which is discussed in this thread. The Crucial m4 mSATA is probably the best compromise between price and performance. I got mine here and it is reviewed here.
