So I installed Win8 (MSDN) to my X360.

All drivers are installed. Everything appears to work fine.

Except Easyspeedupmanager now only shows two options; 'Normal mode' and 'Speed mode'.

Obviously without all three modes there is a lot of battery going to waste. I can't seem to replicate Silent Modes functionality in Power Settings as there is no option for CPU throttling or Fan Control which actually works in the same way.

    Anyone got any ideas?

I wonder what will happen if you try to install Samsung's Easy Settings program for a newer notebook (eg NP900X3C). Easy Settings includes older programs such as Easy Speedup Manager (and Easy Display Manager, Easy Battery Manager). If / how well it would work depends on whether Samsung has included backwards compatibility.

Well. I tried the suggestion and the Win7 EasySettings just refused to install due to the Program Compatibility Assistant blocking it.

After a force install, all the apps seemed to work. However enabling Silent Mode does nothing apart from change the brightness down and change the power scheme to power saver. Fan still spins up.

I couldn't find a working link to Win8 versions of the software. However I don't think they will help either!

EDIT: Placing ALS_DefaultConfig and EasyBatteryManager.exe into Win7 Compatibility Mode with Admin Privs seems to have done the trick. Laptop is now burning a hole in the floor, just the way I like it :). Will report back when Win8 versions of EasySettings emerges.

    Thanks for the update.

You will probably have to continue the struggle because the X360 is not on Samsung's list for Windows 8 support but the list may guide you on where to look for similar hardware.
