    Hello All,

Just a quick question: Has anyone been able to install Samsung Easy Settings (1.1.14) successfully? Windows 8 will not let me install it.

I have almost all the drivers installed, but can't manage to get my backlit keyboard working.

    Any suggestions are welcome :)

UPDATE: I managed it install it via SafeMode, but it keeps crashing. I suppose I just have to wait until Samsung releases an update.

You might wait and try it again with the released version of Windows 8 in a couple of weeks. Otherwise you'll probably need to wait for Samsung to update the drivers and indicate they work with Windows 8.

I don't know if it will work, but you could try doing a advance system setting windows update.

The picture is about how to get plug and play device driver detection to search the Windows update catalog.

I installed easy settings on two different installations of windows 8 without issue. I didn't actually have to mess with anything so I don't have anything to recommend, but it did indeed work.

What version of Windows 8? And did you use any special computability settings?

It's a np700z5b series. I don't recall the last few characters of the model after the hyphen and it's not with me to check. I didn't have to adjust any setting though and everything including the keyboard backlight had no issues.

This is weird. I downloaded the Easy Settings of np700z5b on its support page and everything is working fine on my np700z5c! Even the lid open/close works now. Thanks.

If anyone need it: Support - Notebooks NP700Z5BH | Samsung Laptops

Same! Although, i'm on the 17"
I installed, but some of the settings didn't sit right, so removed, rebooted, reinstalled with windows 7 compatibility, EVERYTHING works fine now (except the auto dimming on my backlit keyboard)

Mine work just fine using the beta drivers from NVidia and the beta's from the Intel site.

I had trouble getting it to work. Can I ask what kind of battery life you're getting? Mine dropped from about 4-5 hours in Windows 7 to less than 2 in Windows 8.

I am running W8, and the 1.1.0.15 installed and helped the fn keys, backlit keyboard. I can't run the EasySettings app, though.

    Thanks for the this tip.

It wouldn't run for me either until I did the following. Right-click on the desktop icon (if you still have it) and click "Properties". In the "Compatibility" tab, set the "Compatibility Mode" to Windows 7. I also checked the option for "Run this program as Administrator" but I'm not sure if that made a difference since I did it at the same time.

It opens every time for me now although the "Samsung Fast Start Mode" under "Lid Open Action" stopped working for me after a while.

I realize this thread is a few months old, but I cant get Easy Settings (v1.1.1.4) to install either.

    I have a Samsung NP300E5C-A09US

Even before reading this thread, I tried in in W7 compatibility mode, running as Administrator.

My notebook is a fresh install of W8, because I like it that way plus I swapped the HD with a SSD. Only reason I want to install this is because some features don't work without it. For one, I can't tell if my caps lock is on or off, and this software will have an ugly goofy looking icon pop up on screen everytime you hit the Caps Lock button. I actually locked myself out of a website because I didn't realize the Caps Lock was on. I wish I never purchased this laptop, should've purchased something with a Caps Lock/Num Lock light on the keyboard.

The equivalent program for Windows 8 is called Settings (without the "Easy").

It is available through SW Update. If Windows 8 downloads are not offered for your particular model then search for another similar model which has Windows 8 pre-installed.

Well, considering my computer sold with W8 featured, that makes about as much sense as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without peanut butter.

I'm just not going to worry about it. Will take out my SSD, sell the notebook and get something with status lights on the Caps Lock/Num Lock keys.

If your computer comes with Windows 8 then SW Update should be automatically offering you the right version of Settings. Did you install SW Update in order to get the latest Samsung drivers and software?

If by SW Update, do you mean Samsung Update Plus? I have SUP and it says I have no updates/I'm up to date.

I think I see your problem: Neither SW Update nor any Windows 8 downloads (other than the User Guide) are offered on the support page for your model.

Update Plus was superseded by SW Update in the 2nd half of 2012. Update Plus should offer SW Update as a download and a link to Update Plus should be on the support page (but is not).

If it is not offered by Update Plus, download SW Update from the support page for a new model such as this then uninstall Update Plus and install SW Update. It should then offer you the Windows 8 downloads including Settings.

I am not familiar with Samsung Update Plus, that's a new one to me. SW Update is Samsung's driver and utility downloader for Series 5, 7 and 9 -- or at least has been so far. I thought it covered Series 3 as well. I wonder if SUP is a new one they're switching to.

Anyways, as John said, Settings is for Win8 and Easy Settings is for Win7. Settings doesn't display that Caps Lock image when you toggle (as you found). Several people complained about that image and Samsung went to a much leaner look with Settings in Win8.

Silent Mode (Fn-F11) is another example where Easy Settings displayed an image, so you know whether you enabled or disabled it. With Settings and Win8, you just have to remember if you're in Silent Mode -- or open Settings to check it.

I can definitely see that must be annoying if your Caps Lock doesn't have a light. Not sure what to recommend.

Some members have managed to install Easy Settings under Win8, but there are clear incompatibilities and it may even cause some conflicts -- particularly if you also have Settings installed. The best I can recommend is to uninstall Settings first (if you already installed Easy Settings, then uninstall both). THEN install Easy Settings in compatibility mode.

Or install only the Fn-keys part of Easy Settings as described in the latencies thread.

I wish I had better suggestions for you. If you choose to experiment Easy Settings or sideloading the Fn-keys, let us know. We'll help you the best we can.

Edit: How could I forget: Definitely try with Easy Settings 2.x instead of 1.x. You find it as part of the Settings install package for Win8. Check the discussion starting here.

Edit2: Oops, crossed posts with John. Please follow his advice to get SW Update then use that to download Settings for Win8. Inside you'll find Easy Settings 2.x.

Appreciate the help! I'm still waiting for an email from Samsung (sent Thursday)

I was successfully able to install SW Update. It recommended me some updates (like my Bluetooth and LAN, etc..).

Actually, the only reason I know of these display images is because I first ran the computer through its default installation with the HDD. Then I took the HDD out and put in my SSD - did a fresh installation, and... here I am.

The whole not knowing if my Caps Lock / Num Lock is on is a small bothersome. Most of my sensitive passwords (banks, emails tied to my bank accounts, hosting, etc...) usually have at least a couple of uppercase letters in theme. As I said before, I'm actually locked out of a website. Wish I purchased a Toshiba :(

No Easy Settings found listed in the 'Update' or 'All Software' list.

I understand, that is not practical. Of course now that you're aware of the issue, you can type a letter in the Username field to see if Caps Lock is on, before you start entering the password. Also, most password fields will show characters for a moment before hiding them. Still, I DO understand this is far from ideal.

I should add that all Samsung notebooks I've seen (including my own) have an LED on the Caps Lock to show whether it's on. A few other keys as well. So it's not that buying any Samsung notebook vs any Toshiba notebook will give you this problem.

As I wrote, and as described in the post I linked, you have to look inside the Settings package. Use the Export function (or Find Model) to save the Settings installer on your disk. You will will find a Win7 folder containing Easy Settings 2.x.

I do understand your frustration. We're trying to help you here the best we can.

    Hi
It was my problem too. After installing Windows 8 the fn keys in my laptop hadn't work. I search for it, but I couldn't find anything.
After a while I found it of Samsung website. For solving this problem you should go this page:
    SAMSUNG PC Windows 8 Upgrade
In this page there is a link as "Click here to download and install the tool.
By clicking this link you can download an application as "SW Update". By this application, you can enter your laptop model and choose win8 as your system operation, now a complete list of your drivers and software will be showed.
If your laptop model is not in this list, I recommend you that don't install win8 and continue using the win7 but you can choose another model which is more close to your laptop. For selecting a close model attend to the model number and the production year of laptops.
    I hope for working it.

I'm back (see my post above ^ )

My notebook came with Windows 8 installed, even though it appeared to be designed for W7.

I still own this notebook and I'm done with it. Why can't Samsung just make a decent looking CAPS LOCK/NUM LOCK icon like Lenovo did instead of simply removing it? Their Fn key icons look nice... I don't understand.

Can't believe I locked myself out of a website again, silly me thought the caps lock was off. Now I have to wait till Monday to call customer support (they are closed tonight, and all day Sunday) :twitchy:

I'm going to go ahead and sell it. Any recommendations for a replacement? I noticed Toshiba C855-S5123 has a caps lock LED indicator on the keyboard, ivy-bridge processor, and is $380. Its not available yet, and probably has week speakers (I never use the notebook speakers anyway).
