    Greetings;
I'm still having issues with my Chronos7 :)

I had a clean install (Deleted All Partitions, Set UEFI Enabled On BIOS, reInstall Windows 7 Home Premium x64 With SP1 From Samsung's DVD)

After Installation Completed, I Installed Following Drivers (In Order : )
    - Intel 6 Series Chipsed Download From Intel.com
    - Ethernet Driver (Downloaded From Samsung Support)
    - Wireless Lan (BroadCom - Downloaded From Samsung Support)

    Then I Reboot My PC.

    Without Installing VGA Drivers,
I Installed Easy Settings 1.1.0.25 (Which Is Also Downloaded From Samsung Support)

    Then Reboot Again.

When I Try To Run EasySettings, (1-2 Seconds Later Than Double Clicking Icon) Mouse Pointer Freeze, Laptop's Fans Reach Really High RPMs, And Nothing Works... I Had To Turn It Off And On Again.

I Wonder What Is Causing These?
Has Anyone Got This Kind Of Issue?

Since you have reinstalled the Windows OS and the the laptop still freezes with loud fans, it's likely a hardware issue. Contact your retailer for replacement or Samsung support for repair.

Does everything work OK if you uninstall Easy Settings?

Did your model include ExpressCache and did you delete it?

Actually Everything works without uninstalling Easy Settings, too.
Installing Easy Settings is mandatory for using FN controls such as keyboard backlight, brightness etc.. I can use FN Keys, and such OSD messages...

Sub Applications Such As Wireless Manager (An App which lets you switch bluetooth & wifi on-off) also works. (You can view them on Easy Settings installation folder)

but when i try to run main application (Easy Settings itself) it make pc freezes.

I destroyed express cache while formatting, and I'm using it as a spare drive right now (i use it for storing Torrent Cache, Temporary Internet Files Cache, etc..)

UEFI seems to be the problem with Easy Settings. It runs fine on non-UEFI systems. I think it may have something to do with the "Fast Start" option. Maybe you can try disabling it (I think it is enabled by default) with the following registry script and report if the problem goes away.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\controlcenter\FastStart]
    "FastStartMode"=dword:00000000
    Good luck :)

I tried the regedit, it didn't work. I also tried to disable UEFI in the BIOS. When I do this windows will not boot, i may try re-installing windows with UEFI disabled, this happened to me before then i managed to fix the issue and I think the issue seemed fixed after i re-installed windows, i must have had UEFI disable on that install?

Well, installing in UEFI mode causes Windows' installer to partition your disk using GPT, which you can't boot without UEFI. :) You can reinstall without UEFI but you will lose all data on the disk. To do this: boot Windows DVD, at the first graphical prompt press Shift+F10; type "diskpart" followed by "select disk 0" and "clean"; then you can continue with the installation as usual.

I've got a 14" Chronos and have the same issue. I've done a fresh install, intentionally converting the machine over to UEFI/GPT boot (makes it a LOT easier to run multiple OS's that way).

Windows 7 Ultimate installed, I had to load drivers off the recovery DVD I created, as the video driver for my model hasn't been posted online yet, and stock drivers/drivers from other Chronos hybrid video models don't work.

All the drivers are loaded, I've gone through Easy Software Manager and loaded all the utilities I care to, rebuilt ExpressCache and got it working fine. Everything works, I just can't open EasySettings.

I installed the app, and I know it's resident, as I get the OSD for the function keys working fine. Express Cache popped up each boot right after installation and asked me if I wanted to rebuild the cache. But if I launch Easy Settings, I get a hard lock.

Tried the RegEdit tip you posted, Almyz125, and still nothing.

    Any other ideas?

Not really. I guess all that's left is to wait for a newer version of Easy Settings (hopefully fixing the issue) or someone with more insight on what might be going on :)

I have the exact same problem with my np700z5a-s03fr. Moreover I can not access to my bios. I started a thread about that in this forum.

Same thing is now happening to me.

Last night I wiped down my laptop, formatted my hard drive (using an SSD), and I had previously changed that BIOS setting to UEFI enabled. It was indeed disabled by default.

When Windows installed, it was using GPT... and now after installing all my software/drivers/etc, Easy Settings locks up when I launch it.

I didn't have problems before with it... so I'm wondering if Easy Settings does not play nice with GPT?

What a pain...this means ANOTHER format/reinstall/set everything back up!

I'm having the same problems. Was getting ready to post about this when I found this thread.

I also installed and SSD, turned on UEFI, and did a fresh install of Windows, Drivers and Samsung programs. Easy Settings locks up every time. I hadn't even considered it was UEFI, but now I bet that's it.

I even tried a second fresh reload in case I had messed it up the first time. Same result.

Off to reload again with UEFI disabled. I will post a reply afterwards to let you know if it's resolved.

What version of Easy Settings are you using? I just stumbled upon 1.1.0.28 while the official support page for my model provides 1.1.0.23. I wonder if it is worth trying UEFI again with the "newer" version.

Don't install this one unless you want to test. There were few people reported that it caused EC corrupted. The lastest is 1.1.1.2. If you want to get it, go directly to Samsung webpage because they uploaded it few weeks ago.

hi all, sorry if this is asking for things that might have been resolved but i dont really know what i am doing.. so please bear with me..

i bought this laptop Support for NP700Z5AH a week ago.. it was knocked down price as it was stock from a seller that went bankrupt .. or so i was told..

when i switched it on for the first time it appeared that it was powered down manually before so i arrived at the error recovery page..
when it loaded the windows 7 operating system was there and fine but all the drivers were missing.. so far so good.. who needs the bloatware and i eventually got on the samsung page to download the drivers..

everything is up and running but "easy setting" which is compulsory in order to get the function keys to work freezes when called either by clicking directly on its shortcut or by pressing the f12 button which (if i understand correctly from another thread) doesnt just switch on/off the wireless adapter but calls "easy setting" to do it..
either way the laptop has to be manually powered down..

similarly the bios update from 11fd to 13fd freezes the computer and as mouse and keyboard become inactive the laptop needs to be manually powered down too.
this happens whether done through easy software manager or through a direct download and install from the samsung page..

i only arrived looking at the bios options as it was suggested in that it might have something to do with the uefi being enabled or not..
the options i have in the boot device priority are:
    1. sata cd: matschita dvd-ram...
    2. sata hdd: hitatchi ...
    3. usb cd:
    4. usb fdd:
    5. usb hdd:
    6. network:

so i cant find any uefi or efi option to enable or otherwise..

by the way, here is a picture of the partitions on the hard drive:

the 1st is an efi partition that is completely blank .. is that right? is this how it should be?

the 2nd one is again blank .. is that supposed to be a recovery drive.. is this why the f4 recovery setup is not working? by the way.. when i tried to download the recovery manager.. the installation stopped giving me this message: "there is no Samsung Recovery area on your hard disc, setup will be cancelled"..

the 3rd is the main partition where windows is installed..

am i getting this right so far?

other than the easy setting and bios update freezing the laptop seems to be working fine.. i just installed the adobe collection and it seems to be fine ..
but i would really like to sort this out..

in another thread i found out that if your recovery partition is erased.. well then tough luck .. there is nothing you can do... in this case can i delete that partition and join it with the main one?

and what about the efi partition? is it needed if it is blank?

am i missing something with the efi disable option in bios?
do i need to update the bios in order to find that option?

and what about this express cache?
do i have it? i installed the driver and i didnt get any message saying something is wrong or missing?

sorry for the beginners' questions but i am quite lost..
    any help much much appreciated..

ps dont mind reinstalling windows7 at this stage as i have not transferred any of my data in the laptop just yet..

    1. That EFI partition suggests the UEFI is enabled which could well be the cause of your other problems. If UEFI is not enabled one gets a 100MB partition that is called "System". This partition contains basic boot information and should not be deleted. The UEFI option will be in the BIOS setup somewhere on one of the pages before the boot device list. If you change the UEFI setting then Windows won't boot so you will have to reinstall it. However, that may be preferable to you ongoing hassles.

Your other partitions look OK. The big partition on Disk 0 is your C drive. I suspect that Disk 1 (8GB) means that you have the ExpressCache on board. This probably needs to be configured once you have everything else working. See this thread for guidance.

hi john, thanks for the quick reply..

i was actually just reading the thread you link..
from there i found out that by running the device manager i could locate under the disc drives:
    1. hitatchi
    2. sandisk issd p4 8gb
the services.msc has the express cache listed too..

however, under mycomputer the only drive that appears is the c.
so what is the ssd for?

    but first things first..
i cannot explain how i missed the uefi option even though i was looking at the bios menu repeatedly over the last couple of nights .. maybe it s because i was staring and not looking..

so great.. i will try this later..
disable the uefi and reinstall the windows os ..

and if the world doesnt implode i will report back..
    thanks

My computer only lists drives or partitions that have been assigned letters. The 8GB SSD can be configured as the ExpressCache to boost performance once you have got everything else working.

I've now looked in the BIOS of my NP900X3B and the UEFI setting is on the Boot options page (3rd on list).

    heeeelp..

disabled uefi in bios and then as expected windows did not load but installation cd kicked in..

however, this is the list of discs and partitions available to install windows in:
    1.disc 0 unallocated space total:0MB free:0MB (what?)
    2.disc 0 partition 1 total:7.5GB free:0MB /primary
    3.disc 1 unallocated space total:0MB free:0MB (what again?)
    4.disc 1 partition1 total:100MB free:78MB /system
    5.disc 1 unallocated space total:698.5GB free:698.5GB

i have no idea where the 0 unallocated spaces came from..
number5 was created by me deleting the previous partition that was there from the previous installation (with something like 650GB free) as it didnt allow me to install there.. so it merged with a sixth unallocated space of disc 1 (again 0MB) to create this current big chunk of unallocated space..

however it says that windows cannot be installed there as it is of the gpt partition style.. it doesnt allow me to format it either..

    what do i do now?
do i merge the huge unallocated space into the disc1 partition 1?
remember the image i posted earlier? that is the efi partition..

    do i have a choice?
1 and 3 are some kind of glitch
2 is the issd and too small anyway
4 is the tiny efi partition
    and 5 is unusable?

    what on earth?

Disc 0 is the ExpressCache SSD. Ignore it (to be used later when you get Windows installed). I would format disc 1 and then let Windows install itself on the empty disc including the appropriate formatting and partitioning.

well well .. i deleted the efi partition and disc1 became one big unallocated space and the world didnt end..
windows installation followed through and everything seems to be working fine including easy setting..
in the middle of all sorts of updating right now so we ll see..

one thing i ve noticed though is that f2 didnt allow me into the bios when i tried to see what was different .. maybe it s because of updating taking place ..

but hey thank you so much

by the way.. when i deleted partition1 (efi) and the whole of disc 1 became unallocated space.. i didnt format anything .. i just went on with the installation.. i assumed windows would be doing that but if it didnt does it matter?

and just as i was beginning to love this laptop..
really loud clicking from the hd while installing adobe cs6 followed by a blue screen that stayed only for a moment as the system restarted.. something about kernel..

    didnt boot properly afterwards either..
short break to travel to work..
booted properly but clicking started again..

reinstalling windows to see if it was a dodgy installation
    and not a dying hd..

honestly i have never ever had problems with a laptop like this..
i dont know if it the built quality of chronos in general or i just got handed a bad apple..

YES! Samsung's software developers suck. Easy Settings is NOT compatible with UEFI. They know this, but are reluctant to tell you. Since Easy Settings includes switches that are in the BIOS and UEFI skips BIOS the two are NOT compatible. I have been bugging them for a keyboard driver, as I too use UEFI, with no result. Really not good. UEFI really does speed up the machine. Considering BIOS has not been relevant since plug and play, I don't know why anyone wouldn't use UEFI. Also, on their machines if you want to use MyFi without Easy Settings installed(they call it AP in Easy Settings) you must use drivers from Intel's site, as Samsung's WLAN drivers suppress Intel's GUI utility to use this feature. If you use Samsung's WLAN drivers and want MyFi, you must again, DOH, use Easy Settings. The onboard SSD can be helpfull by downloading Express Cache from Samsung's site, it will help speed. I hope they get their act together and don't understand how their machines have gotten anything more than a 1 star rating. Maybe the raters haven't used a proper machine yet. I installed Win8 with UEFI and got a 13 second start up, even with a platter drive. Now that's performance. Unfortunately, Easy Settings does the same in Win8 with UEFI boot.

Does anyone know how to manually remove all traces of Easy Settings? My version got corrupted in an update and there were problems uninstalling from Windows. The program no longer appears in the programs list, and I have deleted the easy settings folder in program files, but something apparently is stuck somewhere.

When I try to install the latest version from the Samsung site, it says it cannot install this version 1.x because version 3.x is already installed, ? If I try to install from easy software manager, I just get installation FAILED.

    Anybody have an idea?

It might be worthwhile running Ccleaner to remove orphaned registry entries. Easy Settings also installs various other components, some of which are described in this thread. One of those, if not removed, might be enough to confuse the installer.

Does the Fn function keys really require BIOS?
    i.e., have you tried
    from http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/688064-how-reduce-latencies-samsung-laptops.html

Disappointing if I can't choose UEFI on a clean install...

I would install V2 of Easy Settings as discussed towards the end of this thread.

Hi Tacob, welcome to the forum :)

Full manual removal of Easy Settings requires quite a bit of surgery, largely because it is not one app, but a collection of apps and drivers and services that were bundled together. Not an easy thing to do.

From memory and previous posts, here is what I can point you to that needs to be removed:

    1) Program Files folder, of course (though I would delete that last).

    2) A bunch of scheduled tasks (though they will stop loading when the program files are gone). See this post and the latencies thread for discussion of those.

    3) A kernel driver called SABI.sys and another service called SamsungDeviceConfig. Check this post. You need to be careful when you remove drivers and services or you could break your Windows installation. I would use SysInternals AutoRuns (Google it) and disable these services first, see if the system survives after a reboot, before attempting to delete them.

    4) A bunch of entries throughout registry. Many are in HKCU/Software/Samsung but unfortunately those are only the easy and most harmless ones.

I wish I could give you exact removal steps, but I am on Win8 now (which uses a very different incarnation of Easy Settings simply called Settings). Although I do have a Win7 partition I use for tests, it has Easy Settings 2.x which is quite different from 1,x. (Unless you made a specific effort to obtain 2.x, your installation will have been 1.x.)

There is no doubt that your best option would be to re-install Easy Settings (same version as you had before), reboot, then uninstall that for a proper cleanout. If you have been unable to re-install Easy Settings so far, maybe try again after removing some of the items I list above.

If I get time later this week, I may try and out together a more clear answer. It'll take some time, though, so no promises

Hey Tacob, have you got it working with UEFI? Or has to convert to MBR and install Windows without UEFI?

    Thanks in advance :)

I am away from my PC now, but Google this forum for a discussion between gadgetrants and myself with keywords UEFI GPT Easy Settings. It's several months ago.

He describes how he installed Win7 on his Win8-delivered NP700Z5C - preserving UEFI and GPT and installing Easy Settings 2.x, getting it all working, including those BIOS/hardware related options in Easy Settings.

The discussion also covers how to get Easy Settings 2.x by downloading the Settings package for Win8.

Thanks for the fast reply, I'm just now curious if i can install Easy Settings 2.0 on the notebook Samsung NP535U3C. The app from Samsung SW Update doesn't show up Easy Settings with version 2, only 1. I've installed Windows 7 there on GPT with UEFI enabled. Do you have any idea if i can get Easy Settings working without reinstalling the OS?

Yes, you CAN get Easy Settings 2.x by using Find Model in SW Update to look for the Win8 Settings package. Inside that package is a Win7 folder with Easy Settings 2.x.

It was all explained in that discussion between gadgetrants and me ;)

Again, I am away from my PC, otherwise I would Google it and post a link for you.

    Hi all.
    I bought a Samsung NP535U3C with Windows 8.
Two days ago, I installed Windows 7 in Efi mode, all ok, except for samsung easy setting.
After reading this thread, I tried to install Setting Samsung 2.x, but the pc still freeze...
    What is my mistake?

For those who have Samsung PCs delivered with Win8, and had problems after a clean install of Win7, I suggest you check the install guide here.

In particular, start with the steps under Win8-delivered model for converting your disk from GPT to MBR AND change your BIOS settings. You must do this BEFORE you start installing Win7.

If you still have your Recovery intact, I highly recommend that you start by restoring to Factory Image AND setting your BIOS UEFI settings back to default (except disable SecureBoot).

Most likely your current Win7 installation cannot saved, if it was made while the disk was still GPT or UEFI enabled in the BIOS.

It is true that Win7 should (theoretically) be installable in UEFI/GPT mode, but there were always lots of problems with Win7 and UEFI on Samsung PCs. Easy Settings has several features that access BIOS level functions, which is probably why these problems surface when you install or use Easy Settings.

Keep us posted on your progress. There are many knowledgeable and helpful members here.

Oh, and welcome to the forum, guys :)

yes! i confirmed, convert the hdd (GPT) to (MBR) with GParted, configure the bios "Fast BIOS Mode" Disabled, "Secure Boot" Disabled, and "OS Mode" CSM Only, réinstall win7 and easy settings install correctly :D

I just lost three hours to find the solution :( disgusted with not seeing the solution by Dannemand earlier ^ ^ (sorry my english poor)

Great, thanks a lot for confirming, Punisher. Good job getting it working!

For those who don't want to use GParted (from a Linux LiveCD), the guide I linked shows how to use DISKPART in Win7 Setup to make the conversion. It's a few manual steps, but you only have to do it once.

And no worries, this forum is not a grammar school; your English is fine :)
