I have used DUMo to check whether the drives installed on my 550P7C are up to date, and it identified that updated drivers are available for most of the devices. I have updated the drivers for which I have been able to find the latest versions, but am left with the following list of Intel and Realtek drivers for which I cannot find the update:

    Intel(R) HM76 Express Chipset LPC Controller - 1E59
    - Installed - 9.3.0.1011 Latest - 9.3.0.1028

Xeon(R) processor E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor PCI Express Root Port - 0151
    Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SMBus Host Controller - 1E22
3rd Gen Core processor DRAM Controller - 0154
    Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 1E10
    - Installed - 9.3.0.1011 Latest - 9.3.0.1029

    Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1E26
    Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1E2D
    - Installed - 9.3.0.1011 Latest - 9.3.0.1030

Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller
    Intel(R) USB 3.0 Root Hub
    - Installed - 1.0.1.209 Latest - 1.0.10.255

    Intel(R) Display Audio
    - Installed - 6.14.0.3090 Latest - 6.16.0.3135

    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
    - Installed - 8.15.10.2712 Latest - 10.18.10.3496

    Intel(R) Management Engine Interface
    - Installed - 8.1.0.1263 Latest - 10.0.0.1204

    Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235
    - Installed - 15.9.2.2 Latest - 15.11.0.7

    Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
    - Installed - 7.50.1123.2011 Latest - 7.85.414.2014

    Realtek High Definition Audio
    - Installed - 6.0.1.6716 Latest - 6.0.1.7209

I couldn't find the Intel drives on Intel's web site. The Realtek site advised against downloading the drivers from their own site, stating that they should be downloaded from the computer manufacturer's site, but I can't find any updated Realtek drivers on Samsung's web site.

I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.tell me how to find the correct drivers.

You need to use Samsung's SW Update program (available on this page) to find the latest drivers and software offered by Samsung. You may also use the Find Model version to find newer drivers than offered for your notebook, either for newer versions of the NP-P550P7C or other more recent notebooks. Samsung use Realtek audio in many of their notebooks.

This Intel page will lead you to the latest WiFi driver.

Many thanks for the response, John.

In the case of the WiFi driver, Intel recommended updating the driver from the currently installed 17.0.0.0 to the "latest" 16.11.0. This does not seem right to me.

Thank you. I have now done this, and will in future be relying on SW Update for any future updates.

I had previously understood that it was best practice to go to the site of the driver manufacturer (eg. Intel) in order to obtain the most up to date drivers, but I'm now getting the impression that drivers are specific to particular computer models / motherboards (eg. Samsung 550P7C), and therefore the only safe course of action is to rely for updates solely on the manufacturer of the PC.

I will share my experiences over the last few days.

I ran the update check on the Intel site, and it reported "Newer Driver Available" for 3 devices:

    • for 2 of the devices, the version number of the "newer" driver was earlier than the currently installed driver

    • in the case of the third device, the version number of the installed driver bore no relation to the version number of the driver being proposed by Intel
DUMo identified many drivers installed on the PC, but its analysis as to whether a driver is up to date is useless, since it simply looks for the highest version number in use by site users, regardless of the motherboard. Furthermore, DUMo will only link to a Google search for the updated driver, and the success rate of the search is poor.

Driver Identifier identified more drivers than DUMo, and actually provides download links to the PC manufacturer's web site. However, the first link that I followed downloaded what appeared to be the driver for a later Samsung system.

Incidentally, taking one device at random, the currently installed version numbers reported by Intel, Dumo and Driver Identifier were all different !

Finally, updating the touchpad driver direct from the Synaptics site resulting in 2-finger gesture operation being lost.

Samsung's numbering of driver versions may well be different from the manufacturers. One check is to look at the actual driver date in Device Manager and then compare that with the newest date on any of the files in the newer(?) driver installation package.

Does the NP550P7C use the Synaptics touchpad? Samsung use the Elan pad in most of their product lineup and you will find the latest Elan drivers listed for the newer models. If you have installed the wrong make of driver then functionality is likely to suffer.
