Hi all,
I have bought a Samsung R60 just a couple of week ago with pre-installed Windows Vista Home Premium edition (very nice notebook with an excellent hw equiptment)... After few days of usage I took the decision to downgrade to win XP (more stable at the time being respect to Vista) BUT I was not able to do it.
Basically I formattes the PC... installed Win XP (with SP2) and everythink seemed to be ok.. but when I started the PC I noticed that the OS was not able to recognize the PCI express BUS and consequently the ethernet card and the video card embedded... I searched for the XP drivers on the Samsung site but only Vista driver are available to be downloaded (also in the DVD present in the notebook box)... so... apparently this kind of notebook is not able to be downgraded to Win XP!!! I tryed also with XP drivers of Notebook R20 (which has the same Chipset and Video Card ) but nothing... it doesn't work on XP!
Is there someone that can give me an advice? Someone has dealt with this kind of stuff?
Thanks in advance!
Regards
Gianluca

Most of the hardware in the R60+ is the same as the R20. There's a full set of XP R20 drivers and software here. Also look at the R20+. These look to be much the same but newer. Start by installing the chipet / graphics driver.
You can get the Marvell LAN driver from the Q70 section.

Dear John,
thanks for your reply!
Actually I have already tryed to implement your work around... I have downloaded the R20 drivers (in particular the chipser / graphics drivers) and tryed to install them but the machine answered something like "the driver are not compatible with the hardware on the machine or the operating system" and the driver installation setup failed.
Maybe I will try again!
Thanks

Dear Kleki,
A few weeks ago I found on the Samsung web site the XP version of the driver and software... I tried them and they work very well (they require XP with Service Pack 2).
So, to downgrade the notebook from Vista to XP I recommend to download all the drivers / software posted by Samsung on the official web site .

If you have not accomplished downgrade yet don't give up hope, it is possible. I did it about 2 months ago. Unfortunately I don't have the driver pack i used saved on this PC but I will have it this week. let me know if you still need it.

Have a look at the Samsung download center (there's a driver page and a software page, both with XP stuff) or SamsungPC.com.
As indicated on the SamsungPC site, the R60plus is the same internal hardware as the P500, which is aimed at business, so the XP support is good.
If your R60 has different internal hardware to the R60plus then check out the R20 and the R40 downloads - they have much in common.
