I came across the Samsung Chronos 700Z7C-S02UK on amazon.co.uk. The images show it has a full size 15 pin VGA port and a mini DisplayPort, but this isn't listed anywhere in the "detailed specification" section.

Can someone please tell me if the 700Z7C-S02UK has a mini DisplayPort?

I would download the User Guide from Samsung's website and see what it shows. There are pictures identifying all the ports.

Hi John, thanks for your reply. I looked for the user guide download for the 700Z7C-S02UK, but could not find it anywhere. The closest I found was a user guide on the German site:

    Support für NP700Z7CH

On page 27, there is definitely a MiniDisplayPort listed for the 17.3 inch model, but I'm not entirely convinced this will be the case for the UK model because the 700Z7C-S01US had a mini DisplayPort while the 700Z7C-S01UK did not (for some dumb reason, it comes with a mini VGA).

I've taken a risk and ordered the 700Z7C-S02UK anyway, and am trusting the images on amazon.co.uk (which shows a mini DisplayPort). I am already disappointed in Samsung, firstly for scaling down the memory in the UK version (an nVidia 650m with 1GB instead of 2GB), and secondly for being extremely vague about what the 700Z7C-S02UK has in regards to ports. I require a mini DisplayPort as I have a 2560 x 1440 monitor, so for me, the exclusion of a mini DisplayPort is a deal breaker.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention: I emailed Samsung Customer Support, this was their reply:

I am sorry that you are having difficulty finding the information that you require. I understand the inconvenience and frustration of having to seemingly hunt for information.

Unfortunately, I can't answer your query, our spec sheet doesn't say if this port is available of not. All I can suggest is you check in store with your retailer.

Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.

I visited the flagship Samsung store here in London (at Westfield in Startford), I didn't see a mini DisplayPort on the model that was on display (I think the model on display was the 700Z7C-S01UK), but the salesperson was swearing to me that the mini VGA port was a mini DisplayPort, so not much luck there.

I'll post back here when I receive my 700Z7C-S02UK on Friday and will list the ports it has.

I think I have found the tech specs for the Samsung NP700Z7C-S02UK!!

    Support for NP700Z7CH

The reason why it was so difficult to find is because on Samsung's UK website they've listed this notebook as the " NP700G7C Series 7 17.3" Gamer Notebook" (which is wrong!!! It's the NP700ZCH, A.K.A 700Z7C-S02UK).

I'll still post back here once I have the unit to confirm.

I bought the Z7C last week & can confirm that it does have a Mini DisplayPort on the left hand side, although I can't try it till I buy a MiniDP to DVI adaptor. Just to add that's it's a great laptop with a horrible touchpad, which I'm still trying to get my head round :-(

If it's the Elan pad then it's one of the better ones when used with the right driver. See the touchpad thread.

Thanks Ian! Glad that someone was able to confirm it has a mini DisplayPort.

In regards to the mouse, I'm not that concerned - will be using an external mouse anyway. Nevertheless, I'm surprised that after all these years Windows laptops haven't caught up to the MacBooks in terms of touchpads.

One more question Ian - how are you finding Windows 8?

Windows 8 is ok in my opinion , add a start menu and stick to the desktop mode and it's not hugely different to 7. If Microsoft had left the Metro stuff off and called it Windows 7.2 I doubt there would've been too many complaints
