Looking for a bit of advice/opinions.
I had a R780 laptop (bought by my research unit at a university) with an additional 4GB of RAM (10GB in total) which was stolen. The invoice was for £1300 - bought back in 2010).
My insurance company are offering me £549 as a settlement! Obviously, I am not too pleased with that.
I am no computer expert, but I did contact the original supplier and asked them what the closest comparable model was and for a quote.
They have suggested this:
Samsung NP700Z7C-S01UK Core i7 Processor 3615QM 17.3inch 8gb ram 1TB
S-ATA? Hard Drive (5400RPM) - £985 including VAT
Can anybody confirm that this is indeed the closest I am going to get to my R780? I think that the spec actually looks a little better and the price is 20-25% lower than the original costs.
Would I be justified in suggesting that replacing a £1300 laptop for £549 is not reasonable?
Thanks

Yes, the 17" Series 7 is the nearest current equivalent. Whether £549 is reasonable depends on whether you have a new-for-old insurance policy or it specifically allows for depreciation ( here is a 2nd hand R780 for less than £549).
If your insurance does provide for replacement with a new model then tell the insurance company to stop being silly. Once stocks of the NP700Z7C-S01UK have been cleared then the Windows 8 version ( NP700G7C-S02UK) is much more expensive.
