Hey guys, I have a samsung r70. Having said that I ran across something very strange. This laptop includes bluetooth drivers, bluetooth software, and there is a sticker that says BLUETOOTH 2.0 + EDR, but I can't connect to any bluetooth devices or even find the hardware in my device manager. Anyone know what the deal is with this? Does samsung include bluetooth drivers, bluetooth software, and leave out the hardware? Do they just mean "bluetooth support"?
Thanks.

The Samsung R70 has bluetooth or a TV tuner build in. Do you have the version with the TV tuner?
Is there a Bluetooth icon in the taskbar tray? If yes you have bluetooth. Double click on the icon. Then go to devices. It should be empty. Click on Add. It will then search for bluetooth devices to pair with and add them to the list. -

If Device Manager shows no Bluetooth and has no unknown devices, then I think it very unlikely that the Bluetooh hardware is present.
Are you able to check if the Bluetooth module is present.

I do not have a bluetooth icon in the tray. I don't have the TV tuner either. However I do have it in my control panel, but NOT in my device manager. ALso if I check running processes I see that BTTask.exe is running. I tried doing the adding thing through the control panel program, but it won't connect with any of my bluetooth devices. I know something is wrong with the laptop and not the devices because the devices connect/disconnect easily with my friends macbook. Why would they add all the essential drivers and software and just leave out the hardware?? Puzzling...

reinstall the drivers. You can find them here:

Yeah, update.. bad news, there is no bluetooth sadly. I think under the keyboard is a slot where you can install the bluetooth, but I don't know where I can get the bluetooth module that fits this computer. I found a picture on notegear.com that looks like this:
If anyone can confirm that is a bluetooth slot there, please let me know. I tried checking under the keyboard but I couldn't get it to come off. -

The keyboard removal should not be difficult. There are 3 screws on the bottom (probably marked "kbd") and then there are latches around the edge of the keyboard. These are sprung and need to be pushed towards the outside of the computer. See the attached photo which shows latches by the Windows key and the PgDn key. Use a small screwdriver and do one latch at a time, allowing the keyboard to lift slightly and hold the latch open. These latches are at the front and sides. The back edge of the keyboard is held by some tabs so first you lift the front of the keyboard and then slide it forwards to release the back, then turn it over.

If you didnt buy the R70 with bluetooth hardware I recommend you get a bluetooth dongle. It is much cheaper. If you dont want something external because you use bluetooth alot I would try to return the R70 for one that has bluetooth build in. It will be sometime before the bluetooth modul becomes available as a spare part and it wont come cheap.

Just a thought about that missing Bluetooth: What does the label on the box say? This shows what the factory think they have put in the computer. See the attached examples.
In my experience, the presence of Bluetooth should be shown on the box label at the end of the "Communic" line by "+BT". So my X60plus and Q35 have Bluetooth but the Q70 does not (although the published info says it should have). However, the label suggests that I should have an abn wireless card, but the mini-PCI slot is empty! So this Q70 will be going back.

Hi,
Just a thought but are you running a wireless network manager sometimes there is an option in there to either switch your wireless devices including blue tooth on or off. It might be as simple as switching it on in there. I have an ASUS laptop and have the option to disable my wireless or my bluetooth respectively with the software.
It sounds like the drivers have been installed and that there is software on the machine to accomadate for the bluetooth. If this is the case and you have switched it on you should see the hardware install and you should be picking up devices straight away -
SOme of the machines are bundle with software that they dun have the hardware for it. Likewise the bluetooth software, without bluetooth module.
Common samsung problem?
