I tried the suggested disablewhentype parameter to false for the Elan touchpad but it didn't seem to have any effect. Is there more to it to get the touchpad to work while using the keyboard ?

There is a group of the DisableWhenType parameters. Which did you change?

What happens if you change DisableWhenType_AllArea to 0? Also set the time delays to 0. First make a backup of this registry key before experimenting.

The same issue. The registry keys don't seem to do anything. I'm on 8.1.

I've found these intructions, but surely there's a way to activate settings users clearly want without having to hack the drivers! If the functionality's there, why isn't it visible?

Someone needs to give Elantech a good boot in the posterior.

I really just need to be able to use the spacebar and the touchpad at the same time - in a programme like Illustrator, not being able to move the screen around (holding the space bar while dragging) is a real drag. (Did you see that one coming?)

Our accumulated wisdom relating to the Elan touchpad is in this thread.

I'm sure you will find some discussion of your problem there, plus some fixes. DisableWhenTypeEnable comes to mind.

    Hi John,

That was one of the keys I had no luck with. I've had a read through the thread you mention, but thought this old one was a bit more specific. However, I'll have another look. Thanks. There is much accumulated wisdom here!

There are also innumerable different versions of the Elan pad drivers which have subtle differences.

You can find them by using the Find Model function in SW Update to look through the drivers offered for the Series 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 (except for the NP930X5J / NP940X5J).

However, I should also note that I remember trying various different drivers in the past and ending up with loads of different entries in the registry.
