    Hello,

My X4D arrived along with Crucial M4 mSATA 256. I used this link to create a bootable USB flash drive. The win7 pro SP ISO is also on the same drive. autorun plus Boot on the root of the USB flash, while extracted win7 pro SP1 is stored as a folder.

I went to bios and selected USB FDD as a boot priority and saved it. I tried by enabling (shift +1), which puts a tick mark before USB FDD. I also tried without enabling. It is not able to recognise the USB.

    Any ideas please?

    Thanks,
    SSri09

    1. Disable the Samsung Fast Start in the BIOS (it skips trying to boot from devices other than the main storage)
    2. Press F10 at the BIOS screen to get a one-time boot menu and select your flash drive.

Thanks. I figured that out to load windows install screen. Got stuck at the drivers section. It states drivers not found. I browsed to point the drivers found in the extract ISO under windows/system32/drivers. It does not accept!

Which port are you using? USB 2.0 or USB 3.0. Try the other type.

USB 3.0. I will start all over again from USB 2.0. I assume it would load USB 3.0 drivers automatically. Will post later..thanks for the heads up.

The bootable flash drive I made using Acronis TrueImage includes USB 3.0 support but Windows 7 doesn't include USB 3.0 support by default (memories of the early days of SATA when it wasn't supported by Windows).

I think installing win7 from usb 2.0 should install usb 3.0 drivers. It would be bizzare if it did not.

BTW, it is just coming to actual install section now from USB 2.0. Fingers crossed, it wont ask for drivers. BTW, I think it is normal for the OS to show 238GB instead of 256GB SSD?

My SSD is also 238GB. It's all to do with manufacturers using 1k = 1,000 and computers using 1k = 1024. By the time you get to 1024 cubed the difference is very noticeable.

So far so good. All smooth except the last part. Stuck with Error Code 0x80072EFD. Win7 firewall is configured fine. I can check MS site for ports 80 and 443. Windows update runs fine. I assume the Windows keys are stuck as a label in the Samsung 900 series power adaptor?

There is an erratic problem with Windows Update not working after cloning. See here.

I did not clone. Just a fresh re-install. The problem is activation. I assume the win7 OEM product is the one that we find on the Samsung's power adaptor. This where they have stuck a win7 key. I assume that's the one. But it is failing with 0x80072EFD.

Sorry, I've been reading too many threads about cloning.

Yes, the key on the PSU should work. Do you get the error when you try to activate? If so, try the phone option.

No...that's not the key...it appears it is the COA key, while we seem to need a CLP key. I wiped clean and a full re-install using the Recovery Disk that came with the machine. It got activated by default, though a lot of drivers are missing. I will be downloading them from the Samsung site.

BTW, I used nitrosoft to find the win7 PRO oem key. That's different actually.

Very strange behaviour by windows update. It could not search for new updates. Error 80072EFD; I manually checked firewall permissions; I have given svchost.exe permission and linked to windows update service. I have the same setup on the desktop and another laptop.
