Hi all.
I just bought a NP350V5C laptop running Windows 8, 1 TB HD. The HD has issues.
Short version – I’ve messed up my BOIS settings – I set them to Default and can’t see my HD in boot selection.
Would really help me if anyone has a 1 TB version running windows 8. Could you please take screen shots of the BIOS setting for correctly setting boot options as mine are not working for me. In particular:
Tried several combination of above and re loading the image each time (which takes hours) but can't get the OS to boot. Hoping the right combination in the BIOS will allow aconis to re-image the HD back to its original state.
- Should Secure Boot be enabled or disabled – I can’t see my HD in Boot Device Priority if enabled.
- If Secure Boot is enabled then what should Secure Boot Custom Mode be set to?
- If Secure Boot disabled then which OS Mode?
- PXE OPROM – Enabled or Disabled?
- Boot Device Priority – What’s the order?
History - The HD had SMART errors. I managed to create an Acronis full disk image backup and used Samsungs backup app to create an a factory image to an external HD (not bootable).
I then fixed the SMART issues by running a low level format on the HD.
Then restored the HD using Acronis – All worked except could not run the Samsung Apps and Windows forcing me to update the OS. I gave in and started the Windows updated. After a very long time, it rebooted but would not run the OS.
Pressing F4 during boot should have took me to recover menu – This did not work. I suspect Acronis restore issue.
I then unfortunately looked in the BIOS and selected F9 to load defaults values – This resulted in not seeing the HD in the Boot Device Priority menu.
Is there a way to restore my HD using Samsung image (saved without selecting bootable option) ?
Thanks

We're in the same boat...my (OEM) HDD is not recognized in BIOS. When I run the recovery DVD I have no drive to install windows and none of the repair/reset stuff works.
Ironically, when I take out the HDD and connect it to a sata usb adapter, it shows up in BIOS. Then it teases me by showing all the partitions when I try and install Windows, but it refuses to install via usb.
Same thing with HDD from another laptop...doesn't show in BIOS but will appear if externally connected via usb.
This is absolutely driving me insane because all I want is to be able to run Windows with a HDD. Nothing fancy; not trying to preserve files or partitions or anything. I have the original OS DVD and the original HDD and I cannot install it... -
Do you just have the one drive or is there a SSD etc.?

Just the original Hitachi 750gb, which IS recognized on my other laptop, and when I take the HDD from the Dell and install in the Samsung, it is also not installed in the Samsung's bios. But connected to the Sammy with the sata-usb adapter works with that drive too.
I've got the original Samsung win 8 recovery DVD, and I made a win 8 bootable USB from it yesterday. But without a hard drive being recognized, I can't figure out how to proceed. -
Sorry, dude. I'm a dummy.
