    Hello,

I received my Series 7 Chronos 15.6 700Z5A from Best Buy about a week ago. Overall I am very happy, although I wish the display wasn't quite so washed out. However, the biggest issue is the Mata DVD slot drive does not work with Anydvd. I back up all of my DVD's (kids ruin things) and it does not look like there is a way to make the Mata work with Anydvd and I have researched the subject thoroughly. I have considered getting and external usb dvd, but then I could have just gotten an ultrabook in the firstplace if I wanted to mess around with external DVD drives. So my question is: Are there any 700Z5A owners who have succesfully replaced the slotload slimline DVD drive? I have found a few on Newegg that look like they would work like this one:

    Newegg.com - Sony Optiarc 8X Internal Slim DVD Burner 8X DVD+R 8X DVD-R 8X DVD-ROM Black SATA Model AD-7740H-01 - CD / DVD Burners

Any help or advice before I either return this laptop to best buy (I would likely get the Sony Vaio SE as a replacement) or put in a different DVD drive that would be compatible with AnyDvd. I really like the laptop, but Anydvd is a requirement to be used for me on any PC.

    Thanks!

Edit: I see that some kind of autocorrect has messed up the mata dvd name..... hopefully everyone got the point of what I meant!

Jeez..... the site won't let me post the actual name of the dvd drive. I'll try to misspell it a bit here.... Matishta.... lol. Anyway, looking for all advice if it is possible to replace the existing slot DVD with a different brand (sony, liteon, etc) so that Anydvd will work. Thanks!

The easiest, and probably cheapest, work-around is an external USB burner. I would recommend Liteon as being least likely to give you any copyright issues. Just keep it in a drawer for when you need to do your backups.

Otherwise you need to find a bare slot-loading drive, probably (I'm not sure) 9.5mm thick to replace your internal burner.
