Any idea if this model will support two external monitors (one connected via mini vga and one connected via HDMI)? I wouldn't need the laptop screen to be enabled.

    TIA

Traditionally, Samsung models that had both HDMI and VGA have supported two simultaneous displays: Either one internal and one external or (what you're asking) two external monitors. A few models with DisplayPort (such as the G7C) even support three simultaneous displays (ie the internal can run at the same time as two externals). From scattered reports, I am gathering that other 2013 models now also support three simultaneous display.

Since the Ativ Book 9 Plus has both VGA (dongle) and HDMI (micro) I would be very surprised if it doesn't at least support two simultaneous external monitors -- and maybe all three at the same time. Otherwise it would be a step backward from previous models.

But of course I have not tried it, so I cannot guarantee anything.

I guess the question is whether it relies on vendor specific implementation to actually drive those three displays.

As we discussed back in this thread, the same was true of HD4000, and we still have many laptops (including our Samsungs) which only support two active monitors.

Good point: :( The i5 3317U is technically capable of supporting 3 monitors.

This is also a suitable occasion to point out that the micro-HDMI specification limits the output through that port to 1920 x 1080. So far, there's been no hint that Samsung re replacing it with a more versatile mini DisplayPort.
