My NP550P5C-T01US uses charger A10-090P1A, which is your standard 19V 4.74A power adapter. From the beginning the connector has not made good contact with the laptop. With everything plugged in properly, the computer will suddenly go into battery mode, and stay there until I jiggle the connector at the power port. I bought a generic replacement power supply, which works fine. But I'd like to use the Samsung supply in another room.

So I was going to order a new connector from Mouser or Digikey. The specs for the generic replacements for the Samsung part show it as 5.5mm x 3.0mm, with center pin. But all I can find at Mouser et al is 5.5 x 3.3 mm.

Does anyone know whether the 5.5 x 3.0 mm spec is correct, and even if it is, would 3.3mm work too?

Before you replace the connector, make sure it's not just a mechanical issue, as described by John in this post.

But as for the connector specs, I am afraid I don't have anything there

All the generics indentify it as 5.5x3.0, and I just found a source for that on Ebay that says it's a replacement connector for Samsung. So I think I'll go with that one.

The situation is that the generic charger works fine, and maintains a good connection, but the Samsung charger is intermittent. The two connectors are similar, but not identical. The barrel on the Samsung has more bevel near the end, and it may be that it just doesn't make for a solid connection. Or it could be that there's a bad solder in the Samsung connector.

Of course I'm also suspicious of the power jack in the computer, but I don't see an easy way to get to that.

I could order another generic supply, but I need the longer cords on the Samsung. So, for $4, I think it's worth changing out the connector to see if that fixes it. It may not help, but won't hurt.

From distant memory 5.5 x 3.0 rings a bell. The numbers are, in mm, the diameters of the outside of the plug and the hole in the middle. If the latter should be 3mm and you use a 3.3mm plug then it will be a loose fit (and the other way round it may be very tight). If you just get a replacement plug then you can test that it fits before cutting off the original plug.
