Hello I am looking, at laptops, and thought the owners lounge was the best place to ask questions, for the big boy b450 am4
    CLEVO NH58AF1
Just wondering if they are able to overclock the gpu with what kind of soft-ware to use, does msi afterburner work?
Can you set start up, default, with your own OC clocks with ryzen master. I would like to lower original clocks if too hot, no start ups with loud fans. Most youtube videos and reviews say fans are loud even at idle and with start ups. with all cpus 3600x 3700x 3800x 3900 3900x
will it start with entrainment mode if you want it too.
Have a fear of overheating issues, but looking to get 256bit GPU with 2070 and was thinking 1660 ti would be good but 192bit and external monitors dont like each other from what I understand. It works kind of fine, have tried it periodically, but from I have heard prolong use is bad. 4k monitors
the really nice thing about 1660ti, is it uses 180w psu. But it has to be 2070+ for me.

I saw that on linus too. He said that he didn't get much better temps with it. Maybe further testing? Some quick disconnects and some bigger feet on the laptop would rock if it actually does work.

The power supply is your ceiling limiting factor here, at least for me with the 3950x. The GPU pulls a lot of power and in performance mode exceeds the power supply and thermally trips it. At idle in entertainment mode the fans are. audible but not bad. In the bios you can set which mode the laptop boots into. If Clevo/Sager shipped the 3950x with an upgraded power supply, there would be zero issues. They basically sold a Corvette but then said sorry, don't go over 100MPH.

I guess the whole reason, there using 2 power supply's, for some the Ailene-ware and other brands. If you ask me dealing with 1 monster is bad enough.
No hope in solar to charge battery's,
Are you going to stick with 3950x, or use some of the more power friendly cpu's
I have been shopping for a while and the decision is a hard one to make, But it seems for the best bet, daily use the 65w watt friendly cpus would be alot more psu friendly.
I found this on you tube if anyone is also having trouble cpu shopping for the 58f1
figured the link could help with lots of questions for shoppers

I guess the 65w cpus are more ford mustang
not as much power to the wheels, but just about there for speed.
    5.0 liter engine vs some 6.8 ZR1

PSUs just don't go up that high in single units. Not in a totally passive, sealed and certified form.

    145w cpu
    115w gpu
260w with out, ssd memory, keyboard, track pad, motherboard, fans, and monitor
Im looking at a clevo with 230w psu and a 65 watt hr battery.
my best guess for 3950x, warranty void at your own risk. I really don't suggest it. WARNING !!!!!!!!!
but if some one was feeling bold with more money than cents
cut the wires of two psu's wire them pair ell
I guess the 3900x x version is 142 watts desktop might be the better choice.

Just to confirm, this post is for Clevo nh58af1 owners lounge
not the Clevo nh58af1 with only the 3950x owners lounge.
Because I have tried to find forums and no has really listed anything. This is about the only place where they have honored this beast.
What I'm trying to get at, its ok to discuss all variations 3600x to 3950x
And having am4 laptop dedicated forum is cool idea, there are always questions
doing home work, before the leap is made

Before my current shopping I had the np750-g and I had that thing for about 8 years
it was awesome even though 4 core 6700k, and 970 6gb, it ran 4k external monitors great, and still has alot of power even for todays standards
They are some what expensive, but I think most people dispose there laptops after a year

I got a 3950x for mine and have a 3900x to sell. After thorough testing there is nothing wrong with my 3900x chip, but for some reason no 3900x chip works on my laptop but the 3950x does...within certain limits.

So I'm selling the 3900x. If someone here wants it message me, otherwise it will go on eBay.

Same for my 64gb memory kit....it works fine when paired with a 3600 but with the bigger CPUs 64gb is just always unstable. If someone is running a smaller CPU and has 2*16gb they want to partial trade for 2*32gb that would be cool....otherwise going on eBay

Originally, Prema did share his BIOS mods for free. He is a very generous and hardworking person, and we owe the awesomeness of various Clevo DTRs to him.

Long story short, some really crappy person stole his work and tried to pass it off as his own. I'm not sure exactly what this sorry excuse for a person did, but whatever it was, it really pissed Prema off. As a result, nowadays you can only get his BIOS though his certified vendor partner shops, otherwise known as Prema partners.

I suppose if you had a buddy who had a laptop with Prema's BIOS, you could have them create a firmware dump for you so you could flash it onto yours, but I'd rather buy a laptop from one of his partner shops to support him for his hard work.

Oh I got a laptop question.
Is the 2070 in the nh58 just a pci-e x16 not some weird mxm type of Nvidia configuration. like the previous gen. notebooks.

Then is the graphics card running at pci-e 3.0 or 4.0
I know for sure you have 1 M.2 at pcie 3.0
    and the other M.2 pci-e 2.0

cpu has only 24 pci-e lanes, 20 from cpu and 4 going to chipset. or at least the forums say.

    I'm guessing its b450 with the pci-e 3.0

20XX chips only support PCI-E 3.0. It's soldered onto the motherboard.

No point in running a laptop in PCI-E 4.0 16x anyway with a GPU of that class, it just wastes power.

Word on the street is that Prema is contemplating selling his BIOS though authorized channels to those who are interested. He hasn't made a decision either way, at least none that any of us know of.

My assumption is that this process would involve remote flashing the BIOS by authorized partner shops. There is hope for buying his BIOS for those interested.

That being said, please do not mob him with emails. He does share his work with close friends, but definitely will not share anything with strangers. You may want to follow the Clevo X170 Owners Lounge thread if you want updates. He tends to post stuff there from time to time.

Having an option to buy his BIOS would indeed be awesome. It'd also be a great way for us to support him for his work.

About a year ago I paid Prema I think around $25 for an unlocked bios for an MSI I had. He was pretty active in the MSI forums from MSI website. He generally just asks for a donation for his time through Paypal.

It never fails, I get a new laptop, and 2 weeks later my gpu is already outdated.
MSI just started to move into RTX 30xx gpus. The only thing that made me feel better was the heavy priced.
I suppose it will take a while for clevo to add them to the production line,
another perk 2070 and 3070 both have 8gb ram. not much memory difference, if plugged into a 4k monitor
but the 3080 has 16GB of RAM, I think thats even more than the 10GB that there offering with the desktop version.

I'm so happy to get 256 bit, though the 20xx series was first some what affordable option.
From what I'm informed it works better for external 4k monitors.
Then liven on 8gb isn't so bad, I may run into a issue 4k gaming every once in a while.
2080ti Is some power though, vs 3080
next question is how big is power supply. 3080 looked about 300w in some of the desktop benchmarks

I cannot believe how light this thing is, I came from a NP750 DM-G the Batman, and that thing is a tank in comparison.
You would never guess there's up to a 3950, or wait for it ------------ 5950 processor with a 2070 <------------- got the new laptop! they now release 3080 a day later, so when do the AM4 59xx laptops come out. "if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all"
was all that weight lost because GPU is now integrated. It was the only thing I could think of, that would make that much difference.
I was kind of bumed cause the gpu wasn't , the the pci-e removable option, but the weight difference, is a perk
but then again next gen gpu's never work out any ways, mxm mxmII mxImmIImmII or how it seems

The way I understood it was
    970 980 GTX was MXM
Then 1070 1080 GTX was MXMII
you cant switch, or it was really difficult ??????????

Are there any disassembly tutorials on the NH58AF, Like if you need to replace keyboard.
previous models the leds like to fail. There's usually the typical origami, small hidden screw technique

No official names for the new cards as they are not a standard really.

    9xx was standard MXM-B 3.1

MXM II was around about a decade ago.

    thankyou for the assistance seba84_2005
some handy notes makes for a lot less swearing. my dog gets scared then runs to find a place to hide.

It was along time ago, but the gpu pci-e change, it was like oh great, intel changes chip-set, and now Nvidia changes to some additional plug with the pci-e slot.
Well landed where I did, cant complain, may be better to save the money for a awhile.

I think it will be 10 % less compared to 2080Ti. And only top versions for 150 watts TDP

It's going to depend on title and resolution exactly what the difference will be.

Hi, has anyone installed linux on this laptop?

I have the Sager NP7958F1 and it works great with windows 10.

I've also installed Manjaro but the fans are silent, and I'm worried that the CPU might overheat. Do I need to install additional software to enable the fans?

Linux works - I got Ubuntu running pretty easily (although you need to initially boot with nomodeset and then download the nvidia drivers). You can consider installing the Tuxedo Control Center to control fans, but even without it the default EC fan curve should apply

ZenStates works for undervolting on Linux and is arguably more stable than RyzenMaster/ZenStates on Windows
