How the hell did that guy get 1200MHz on the core? Come on now
-
-
i7-3920XM overclocked to 5ghz? Is there an air conditioning unit or freezer attached the bottom? That would make the M18x heavier than most desktops.
On my P370, when running Furmark + Prime95 for 6 Minutes, max CPU temp is 89C, 680M #1 is 79C, 680M #2 is 97C. Higher GPU temps than HTWingNuts, but about the same as the notebookcheck review.
If and when the 680MX is released, I wonder what the temps will be. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You would NEED the dual 300W adaptor to get two 680MX cards ^-^.

My P373EM3 is running a i7-3630QM.
I just ran another Prime95 (8 Thread Torture Test) + FurMark (1280x720 Burn-In) test for 20 minutes. Ambient temperature is a very warm 83F (28C). Max CPU temp was 86C, 680M #1 was 76C, 680M #2 was 96C.
All 4 Cores on i7-3630QM ran at 3123.4MHz with no throttling at 100% usage.
Should I be concerned with 680M #2 running at 96C?
Also ran Metro 2033 benchmark:
Options: Resolution: 1920 x 1080; DirectX: DirectX 11; Quality: Very High; Antialiasing: AAA; Texture filtering: AF 4X; Advanced PhysX: Disabled; Tesselation: Enabled; DOF: Disabled
Average Framerate: 69.33
Max. Framerate: 238.78
Min. Framerate: 11.05
Same graphics settings but with nVidia 3D Vision enabled:
Average Framerate: 33.33
Max. Framerate: 92.46
Min. Framerate: 6.55
Thanks guys. -

350w from the wall giving 300w to the system maybe.
Remember the psu must be good for maximum load with the highest end equipment 55w cpu + 240× graphics leaves 5w for the screen, hard drives, fans and speakers. -
Yeah, 96C on the GPU is pushing the limits and definitely not recommended for extended periods of time. I normally try to keep the GPU's under 80C at all times. -
ordered this system today from Xotic PC, i left the Stock CPU to a 3630, SHould i spend the extra and move up to the next CPu? I heard it may be clock locked also, I got a single 680M and want to add a second one later, How easy do you thik that will be and where should i look for pricing/? I also upgraded the screen to the 90% color Gamut LED, but left the drives stock and DVD drive because i can always just change that later. Your reply would be great!, I still have time to change my order today! the upgrade to the CPU is
Sager - 3rd Generation Intel® Ivy Bridge Core i7-3630QM (2.4GHz - 3.4GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache, 45W Max TDP) (SKU S2R174)
Sager - 3rd Generation Intel® Ivy Bridge Core i7-3740QM (2.7GHz - 3.7GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache, 45W Max TDP) (SKU - S2R202) ( + 170 ) -
I have the i7-3630QM, and have Intel XTU installed, but it seems the CPU is not-overclockable. I've read that the i7-3720QM & i7-3740QM have 4 unlocked clock multiplier buses which would allow up to a 400MHz overclock. But I'm not 100% sure.
If gaming is your top priority, then the i7-3630QM should be more than adequate. If you look at HTWingNut's CPU Useage/Load chart on Page 1 of this thread, you'll see that his i7-3720QM is not even reaching close to 100% in his gaming benchmarks. I don't see any bottlenecks when gaming or benchmarking with the i7-3630QM.
I'll be using the i7-3630QM for Digital Audio production (software synthesizers, DSP, multi-track recording, etc.). So far, I've run several Digital Audio/Software Synth torture tests to check the CPU performance and DPC latency and the i7-3630QM's performance is more than adequate.
Of course, if I had the money I would have gone with the i7-3740QM since it's base clock is 300MHz higher, but I probably wouldn't have utilized it to it's full potential. Maybe next year the prices of the i7-3920XM & i7-3940XM will drop after Haswell is released.
If you like to overclock, well then get the i7-3740QM or higher! -
-
I´ll have to satisfy my overclocking lust only on 7970M. -
So i got this system with a Single 680M, thanks for the reply regarding the CPU , i think i will just keep the 3630Qm as it seems that for gaming it will give me little advantage to upgrade. What memory do you guys recommend for this system? I was looking at Corsair Vengence 1600 16gb on amazon for like 74$, i also picked up a Samsung 840 250GB SSD today for 158 with Farcry 3 Free and free shipping (love black fridays!
My idea is that i will put a Another 680M down the line in SLI, or should i just call and have them put a Dual 7970M ? SO many choices!!! RIght now i came out of it with the Upgraded display to the 90 % color Gamut ect for 2201$ 2 Year Sager extended waranty and the Thermal Paste Upgrade.

I am in a similar boat as stubakka and am in need of some sage advice.
I am also planning on purchasing with a single 680m and adding another in sli at some point. If I OC'd the first 680m do I risk running into any issues when adding the second 680m in sli?
Also, opinions on xoticpc's operating system redline boost. sounds unnecessary, especially if I have plenty of ram and an ssd. is my logic correct? -
From what I've heard, yes. XoticPC's redline services are expensive and unnecessary.
For reference, I'm running a P370EM with a single 680M, no overclocking, and I can run any game with no issues (even Battlefield 3 campaign with the highest settings across the board with a steady 60FPS). At this moment in gaming, you really don't need anything more. -
Thanks,
I'm just gonna skip all that business.
Now to decide if I want to shell out for sli now or just get one 680m and wait for a price drop... I will refer back to stubakka three post earlier, where does one shop for a 680m? ive only been finding the 680, but no 680m. -
I would definitely wait for a price drop (in fact, that's what I am doing myself). Simply because the power you're getting from a single card is completely sufficient for even the highest level of gaming right now. It's not really worth $800 to get 10 extra FPS in the VERY newest games (maybe for some people it is, but I'm not made of money).
As for where to buy... I wouldn't be the one to ask. I see some on eBay, but not really anywhere else. -
Yea I. I didn't even get an operating system with mine. I'm waiting for them to confirm my order. Some good Black Friday deals right now on xoticpc. Mine should have a 3740qm the highest quality screen and no os or drives or Bluray. I plan on building it out once I get it and it has a single 680 m 4gb. Hope finding one and installing it is not difficult. I got some sweet deals on ssds and memory today also.
-
sounds pretty smart stubakka,
What ssd and memory are you getting?
My build sounds identical, but im not sure how much time i want to spend shopping around for additional components, am leaning toward getting it delivered good-to-go
planning on ordering tonight or tomorrow to take advantage of black friday deals.
What wireless card did you get from xoticpc? -
btw, im planning on getting 16gb ram over two slots. i know its excessive, but its not much money and can add two more later and have 32gb of ram, which would just be cool.
planning on getting the 240gb intel ssd with the machine and an hdd for storage -
Please let us know what RAM you're purchasing. My 4GB Kingston HyperX PnP 1866MHz CL11 modules (Model # KHX1866C11S3P1K2/8G) doesn't work; I'm not sure if it's the CPU's memory controller (only a i7-3630QM), motherboard, BIOS, etc... This same 1866MHz RAM worked fine (at 1866MHz & CL11 with no mod's) in my 2011 Clevo P150HM with i7-2860QM.
*Update*
With the newer BIOS, 2 x 4GB HyperX 1866MHz PnP CL11 works, but 4 x 4GB doesn't. With 2 x 4GB HyperX, winsat mem averages around 24500.00 MB/s, which is around 1GB slower than the 2 x 4GB Samsung 1600MHz CL11 1.5v.
I'd like to eventually get 8GB modules, so please let us know which ones work. Thanks.

I posted a "Windows 7 64-bit Drivers Installation & Windows 7 Optimization" post over in the P370EM Owner's Lounge. Hopefully it helps a new owner.

That is concerning, im pretty set on 8mb 1600mhz modules and will let you know.
I have to say im a little turned off to sager due to their apparently unfounded claims of "upgradability" knowing that even 1866mhz modules will not work in this machine, but the prices and rep are so much better with sager I would have a tough time going anywhere else...
is there any hope at all that a gpu past gtx680m will work? I don't expect this to be possible, but if someone with some insight is reading I wouldn't mind some insight.
I have been encouraged by users of this forum and others to only get one 680m and get another when it is necessary, but I am tempted to get sli now as I have the money and only have to grapple with spending the extra $$$, which is pretty substantial. I don't have a lot of free time and would rather just get everything I want now, than having to upgrade later, unless the price drop can be expected to be considerable at the time when a single 680m is not enough to achieve near optimum performance.
I am planing on placing an order tomorrow if you are interested. -
I decided to get two GTX 680Ms since I would like this to be my big powerhouse notebook for the next 2 years, and I want to use stereoscopic 3D (which cuts the FPS in half). 680M is close to twice as fast as last year's 580M (675M) and around 2.5 faster than this year's GTX 660M. 7970M has similar gaming performance as the 680M, much better CAD OpenCL performance, and is significantly less expensive, but I've read of artifacts in games when running in Crossfire, and more noticeable micro-stuttering below 40 FPS. Since Enduro hybrid switchable graphics isn't supported on the P370, I don't think the AMD driver issues with GPU load optimization are an issue, though I could be wrong.
From what I've read on this forum, a single 680M with a special unlocked & tweaked beta MSI vBIOS can get be massively overclocked to score over 8000 in 3D Mark 11. Stock clocked 680M scores around 6000; SLI scores over 10000. Apparently the unlocked MSI vBIOS cannot be used with two 680Ms in SLI. Somebody correct me if I'm incorrect.
I'm guessing that the Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz modules and 4GB 1866MHz modules are supported. Not the Kingston HyperX. Amazon had the 2 x 8GB for $63 two days ago, it's $80 now. I'll do a little reading in the P170EM forum to see what RAM they are using. -
Sequencer, I have one question about the 3D option on this laptop. I've been looking on the resellers and they only offer the 3D screen when you upgrade to a 680 sli. I really want to buy this as a desktop and laptop replacement for years so I want all the upgrades to be easily done at home, like changing the ram and gpu's. I'll buy it with 670 on sli or single 680 (i can't afford more by now). Is it possible to buy the 3D screen and disable it until i can buy the 680sli or better? Is it very very difficult to change the screen of this laptop from stock matte to the 3D screen?
-
You can take single 680M + 3D screen as im looking at it right now at Xotic. You can of course disable 3D and never use it if you want.
Change screen, well, depends on your skills. Its easy, at least for me, if you follow the instructions. But some users may find it difficult.
From what i know, running 3D is possible even on single 670M, but you may have some performance issues, because 3D usually cuts fps in half. Maybe thats why resellers are offering 3D only with 680M.
Lastly, you can always contact reseller and make some individual configuration maybe even pricing. At least i done it. -
So i noticed today that the 27 Inch Imacs that go on sale friday have an option for a 680MX 2GB video card, looks like you guys were right, My laptop is being built, I have a feeling we wont see this for a while but what do you think? I got a single 680M 4GB
-
Deevas,
I believe the 'nVidia 3D Vision' option is for nVidia cards only since the 120Hz '3D-Ready' LCDs require a different connector, which only several of the nVidia GPUs have.
A single GTX 680M will work with 3D Vision, as long as you get the P370 with the '3D-Ready' LCD and the built-in 3D Emitter. Get the upgraded LCD option (+~$75) that includes the nVidia shutter glasses (and built-in emitter), so that you will have the full 3D package, without any confusion. Clevo apparently is shipping two options with the 120Hz '3D-Ready' LCD - one without the built-in emitter and shutter glasses, and one with the built-in emitter and shutter glasses. The option without the emitter and shutter glasses is for people that don't want 3D, but want the faster refresh rate of the 120Hz LCD. Why? Explanation below:
The 120Hz '3D-Ready' LCD is just a regular LCD, but with a faster refresh rate. Most LCDs on laptops are 60Hz, which, for the sake of simplicity in this particular case, redraws the screen 60 times in one second. A 120Hz LCD redraws the screen 120 times in one second. Viewing in stereoscopic 3D requires an LCD that can redraw a minimum of 100-to-120 times a second. When not viewing 3D material, for example when just surfing the internet or working in Microsoft Office, then your 120Hz '3D-Ready' LCD will behave just like a normal 60Hz laptop LCD, but the faster refresh rate will usually make the experience a little smoother in some people's opinion. One example is when moving the mouse cursor slowly, the cursor moves more smoothly on the screen compared with a regular 60Hz screen. You can still play games and they will perform normally. Stereoscopic 3D is only enabled when you enable it in the nVidia Control Panel. Otherwise it behaves like a regular screen.
Now when you have TWO GTX 680Ms, you'll have to reboot if you want to enable SLI in the nVidia Control Panel. I'll also mention that you'll only want to enable SLI when you open an application that can actually make use of SLI, like games for example. Web Browsing, Microsoft Office, etc will not and does not need the power that SLI provides, and if you have SLI enabled while web browsing, your web browser will only use 1 GPU, but the overall experience while web browsing will be less smooth compared to web browsing with SLI disabled in the nVidia Control Panel.
So to sum up another very long post of mine, a single GTX 680M will run 3D Vision just fine but you'll have to lower the graphics settings a little in games. Just lowering from Very High to High in Metro 2033 will give you about a 60% increase in average FPS and 90% increase in Minimum FPS.

I see a very heavy resemblance on the M17x R2 with this machine. Just sayin'... I'm kinda underwhelmed about the CPU cooling. Seems almost pointless to get the XM CPU with this machine. Best save that for the M18x I suppose...
However the pricing is excellent with this machine. -
Just wanted to express my gratitude to Wingnut for such an extensive review.. After watching a half dozen youtube video reviews, This thread/review was the deciding factor in making my purchase.. Here ended up being my final build that should be arriving on Dec 4th. (I'll remove the boring details like the sager logo/etc).. I ordered the primary system from powernotebooks.com because I've dealt with them in the past and had always had good experiences with their customer service in the 2 instances that we needed to use them.. The Memory I dropped down to the lowest due to a sale that Crucial was having on their memory that made it almost $100 less to get 32GB of RAM after market.. The Hard Drives, I kept with a 750GB that I'm pulling and sticking in an external enclosure and I ordered 2x Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB SSD's that I'm going to stick in and run in RAID-0..
17.3 Full HD (1920x1080) Matte LED-Backlit Display (I'm generally going to be keeping it connected to a pair of external 28" LED's when I'm in the office, but I need to be able to travel with it to customers)
Dual nVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M 256bit w/4.0GB GDDR5 in SLi
Intel Core i7-3740QM (2.7~3.7GHz) w/6M L3 Cache - 4 Cores - 8 Threads
IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU
8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3/1333 Dual Channel Memory
750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive
Combo Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW CD-R/RW Drive w/Softwares
FREE UPGRADE TO Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N 1202 + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Card
3-Year Parts and Shipping plus Lifetime Labor and 24/7 DOMESTIC Toll Free Support (Labor & Support paid by PNB)
I'll throw up some professional benchmarks (3DS Max/Solidworks/Maya/iRay/VRay/etc) once I get everything set up next week. -

I had a customer that had to deal with a burnt out video card 2 years back with a GTX 280M.. He sent in the machine, paid the extra $$$ to get it to them overnight since it's for business (they pay for 3 day shipping to them), they took 2 days to analyse the machine and fix the problem and had it shipped out and back to him right away again.. I don't remember if he paid for overnight shipping back or if he just let them send it 3 business day air, but everything went just fine. The other incident had a failed hard drive and for that they cross ship it to you, so you get the part and install it yourself and then send them back the defective part.. I want to say that most of the SAGER items are self replaceable during waranty replacement, except for CPU's, Mainboard Components (obviously) and GPU's.. but things like memory, hard drives, wireless cards, mSATA cards, DVD/BluRay players/etc, keyboard, are all pretty simple to self replace.. -

Interesting over there the 2x256GB drives work out cheaper than the 512GB drives, most of the time the single drive is cheaper over here in the UK.

Wrong post, sorry :O But I might have a question for you : which benchmarking software are you guys using please ? I could run benchs to test my system (once I get it) on Win8 as some people wanted to know if there is any difference between 7 and 8. Would you recommend keeping the OEM drivers or updating to the nvidia drivers to run the benchs ? Thanks !
-
I'd like to thank all those that shared info regarding this laptop, after an extensive search I decided this was the best laptop vis-a-vis performance and gaming within my budget. One thing I still can't seem to find are any benchmarks with an AMD 7970m. I understand a 680m is the better choice and sli 680m the best for performance but within the constraints of my budget i was advised to opt for a single 7970m vs the sli 670m. I just wanted to see if there were any benchmarks with the 7970m that way I would at least have a score or result to base the benchmarks i'd be running on my end.

Riktar,
You might want to check out the P370EM Owner's Lounge, Page 48, Rebkos' post #474. His AMD 7970M benchmarks look impressive with recent drivers.

Thanks for the link! I saw that post a while earlier and that does look impressive. -
Here's my first benchmark under Windows 8 with the initial system build.. the Samsung SSD's will be here tonight via UPS and I'll re-do everything all over again (worth it)..

Well certainly both at SATA3 speeds there
Nice 4k results too.

So does anyone know a good place to watch to buy a 2nd video card 680M 4Gb for this Unit? any vendors people have used? I want to get one as soon as money allows and install it , i got my system configured with just 1 for now (still waiting for it to ship). I saw some on Ebay for like 600$

Hi all, just got this incredible machine. However I was wondering how come my friend who has a MSI with the I7-3610QM could score a WEI of 7.6 while my clevo has a i7-3840QM and get a WEI score of 7.5? It's no big deal but I am curious.
Thanks!
