    1. Uninstall the Synaptics Driver first
    2. Install the ALPS drivers.
    3. Restart
    4. You should be able to open the settings for the alps drivers
    5. Disable tap to click (unless you prefer to leave it on)
    6. Set the width of the vertical and horizontal scrolling.
    7. Set the sensitivity of the touchpad
    8. Save
    9. USE!!!!

Does anyone who owns an NP2096 play S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl on it? If so, how does it run?

I've been interested in the NP2096 and would probably be even more interested if I knew that it could run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. smoothly at maximum (or near maximum) settings.

    Thanks

Looking at the System requirements, I am sure that the 2096 will run it just fine, I'm not sure about maxing out the settings however.

Hey guys, I just got my np2096 today and I'm trying to install Vista but after getting a strange error saying my files were corrupt I restarted and now my screen just says "BOOTMGR is missing, Press ctrl+alt+del to restart"

So i try that, and it just gives me the same screen again. Am I screwed?

It will indeed. I have played a bit of it with the Oblivion lost mod and it runs just fine. Better than I expected it to on a laptop, actually.

I can say that, so far, everything I have loaded on the laptop has ran better than expected.

Thanks reishi, that's good news. I've just got a few other questions for you, if that's alright?

    1. Which operating system are you using?

    2. Do you have the WXGA or WSXGA+ screen on your NP2096?

    3. What kind of Frames Per Second are you getting in Stalker with high settings?

Boot your laptop off of the Vista CD, and use the Startup Repair tool to try correcting the issue.

Hey guys I'm having an issue with my video card I think. Whenver I play games, even older games like Counter-Strike 1.6 my game will freeze for about 10-20 seconds. I've installed many different drivers all to the same result. I'm running xp 32 bit.

Has anyone found a good power management program that works with the 2096? I was trying RMClock and it doesn't seem to affect the processor at all. CPU-Z still reports that it won't drop below ~1600 Mhz, even though I had RMClock set to drop it to ~840 when idle.

Try uninstalling your old drivers first with something like driver cleaner pro. Perhaps the old rivers are conflicting with the new ones.

Hi everyone. First time posting on this board. :)

I am looking for a laptop for some gaming as well as a development platform (VS 2008). I plan to use this mostly in my comfy chair on my lap with a lap desk. The 2096 seems like what I am looking for.

My only concern is the location of the USB ports. I plan to use an external mouse (for gaming), and so I could use a bluetooth mouse, but I also plan on getting the NC1000. Does the USB connection cable get in the way of using an external mouse used on the right side? Locating the USB ports in the front was a bad design decision IMO.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to NBR :)

I had the same concern as you and while I do agree that it's not the best positioning, it really isn't all that bad. I am using an external mouse right now and I am not having any issues whatsoever.

There are few users here that do use the NC1000 ... so may be they can chime in. But it is an awkward location for the USBs ... would have preferred it in the back side OR toward the rear on the sides.

Has anyone here had problems playing dvds on their new machine? My actual dvds play fine but burned ones freeze and refuse to play. I've tried multiple codec packs such as the "XP Codec Pack" and CCCP but none of them work to alleviate this problem. My computer came with the Cyberlink software which I also installed but yielded the same results. Could it be my drivers? Does it have to do with Vista 64bit? Also note that the DVD plays fine in my older computer which is running windows XP home edition

    Thanks

If I was to upgrade one thing from this laptop in stock, which would be the better choice?

(screen) going from 1280x800 to 1680x1050
    or
    (processer) going from P8400 2.26GHz to P8600 2.40GHz?
    thanks

    Hi Ghold,

Depends what you will be using your laptop for "Majority" of the time ... if you are in Spreadsheet and stuff ... that means you need a high resolution screen ...

In general I'd say go with the Screen for 2 reasons ...

    1) The 1680X1050 is much nicer screen ... better resolution.

    2) Going from P8400 to P8600 ... you will not see much difference ... you might not even be able to tell the difference. PLUS, at a later time upgrading a CPU is much easier than changing out the Screen.
BTW ... a P8400 is pretty nice CPU.

But see what the other "Owners" here will suggest!

    G! :)

No question about it, go with the better screen. You won't see much of a boost from the upgrade to P8600.

So I've managed to get just the introduction of the dvd playing with windows media player classic and the Cyberlink PowerDVD player but they freeze right after that. What do you guys use to play dvds? Any suggested codec packs?

VLC was actually the first thing I tried, and it didn't work for me. I tried it again just now and it crashed on me :(
Are there any settings I need to mess with?

    Hi Azomoth,

Your problem seems pretty "unusual" ... all of these players and "Freezing" problem ...

    1) Check your DVD ... may be the problem! Is it Original or Burned Copy. If Burned copy run "NERO CD-DVD Speed Test" program and do "Scan Disc" > Read Test ... you will probably find that you have Damaged Sectors.

    2) Have you tried a different DVD?

    3) What OS are you running on your Lappy?

    4) Download "Latest" VLC Media Player and try it again.

    5) Download an MPEG2 Codec and you should be able to watch DVDs with WMP just fine!

    Hope this fixes your problem!

    G! :)

    Hi nocturo,

Q1: Didn't you get a CD from your Resller with the "Drivers"?

Q2: Which Version of NVIDIA Drivers did you download from LaptopVideo2Go?

Try 178.24 first ... if it doesn't work then try 178.13.

    G! :)

Are you using the drivers with the modified .inf file? If not, make sure you download that from laptopvideo2go.com to use the latest drivers. Hope that helps

I hate to post a technical support request here, but XOTIC pc's support forum seems, for lack of a better word, dead. I've tried resolving this through email, only to be told to call support, but apparently, 24/7 domestic support isn't offered for NP2096s and Sager's 9AM - 5PM PST M-F line too closely resembles my own work hours to make use of them. So here's my dilemma:

I just received my Sager NP2096 from XOTIC PC:

Sager NP2096 Custom Laptop (Built on the Compal JHL90)
    -Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
-15.4" WSXGA+ "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1680x1050)
    -Standard Dead Pixel Policy
    -Intel® P8400 45nm "Montevina" Core™2 Duo 2.26GHz w/3MB L2 On-die cache - 1066MHz FSB 25 watt
    -512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 9600M GT DDR2 DX10
    -2,048MB DDR2 800 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory
    -Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive w/Softwares
    -320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)
    -Internal 3-in-1 Card Reader (SD/MMC/MS)
    -Internal Bluetooth + EDR
    -Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 5100 802.11 a/g/n
    -Built in 2.0 Megapixel Camera
    -Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio
    -Smart Li-ion Battery (9-Cell)
    -Integrated Fingerprint Reader
-No OS, Drivers & Utility Software Only
-1 Year Parts & Labor, Lifetime Sager Toll Free Tech Support

My problem lies with the fact, I didn't order an operating system. When I received it, I plugged it in and thew my XP disk in to install it. After loading all the necessary files, when windows attempts to start,I get a STOP 0x000007B (0xF78D2524,0XC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000) error.

I've also attempted to install Windows 2000, and have tried various alterations to the XP install (like slipstreaming with nlite SP 2 & SP 3) only to receive the same error.

In an attempt to format the hardrive, assuming that's what was causing the error, I tried to boot off my DOS 6.22 disk only to be informed that no drives could be found, and no CDROM drivers are selected.

I've also ran a few hardrive diagnostic tools, such as SEA tools, all of which either cannot find a hardrive, or report bad boot sectors.

Again, I apologize for having to post here, but I feel I've exhausted all other outlets. Is there any chance of me troubleshooting this on my own? Or did XOTIC PC send me bum hardware?

    Thank you for your time,
    -Alex Barker

Does your Windows XP install disc see hard drives to install on? ( Since you slipstreamed with nLite you should have added SATA/RAID drivers )

If not, you won't be able to successfully install XP, as far as I know. I use XP SP2 myself.

When XoticPC sends out a laptop with no OS, it has already been burned in. In other words, they install an OS, test everything thoroughly, then remove the OS and ship it out.

Your SAGER DRIVER CD should have SATA drivers on them, add these to a new nLite ISO of windows and try it again.

Aryantes, thank you for the quick reply! As far as the XP seeing hardrives, I can't be sure- I get the stop error directly after it loads the files. I'll attempt to slipstream including the SATA/RAID drivers, this time. Out of curiosity, would this also be the equivalent of pressing 'f6' during the XP install sequence asking if I have to install 3rd party RAID software?

    *EDIT 11/02/08 01:28 PM
I've loaded up nLite and went to add drivers, but I'm not entirely sure I have the ones I'm looking for selected. I decided to pretty much add everything in the XP folder on the CD they sent me that doesn't mention 'vista' or '64bit'. I'm going to go ahead and burn this configuration and test it, but just in case I'm missing something or added something that would cause an error, I decided to attach the driver configuration... Again, thank you for your advice.

    *EDIT 11/02/08 01:50 PM
The above configuration didn't offer any changes, should I try a different driver selection, or should have that solved the problem? I'll continue playing around with different selections, checking back here for updates.

I cannot remember exactly what the SATA drivers are called but am pretty sure they are in the "other" section on the CD if you explore it...

Sorry I cannot be more specific in this sense as I do not have it in front of me.

Weird, I cannot find the drivers on sager's support site for your model, but they are listed for mine ( 9262 )

Hmm, I guess it should be the equivalent of hitting F6 and installing 3rd party raid yes.

I'm not exactly sure how raid and sata are related.

See if you can find out what your sata controller model is and get a driver online if your newest cd does not work.

Sorry for the ineptitude, but google results for (+np2096 +"sata controller") doesn't offer any relevant information. How can I find this out? Would it be listed here? *see link attachment*

    *EDIT 2:15 PM
Scouring the manual included on the CD trying to find the sata controller, I came across this:

    HARD DISK DRIVE (HDD):
    • SATA
    • 9.5mm, 2.5" HDD Support with 80GB/120GB/160GB/250GB
    • 5400/7200 RPM
Is it possible that my 320GB hardrive isn't supported? Has anyone else ordered an NP2096 with a 320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache) hardrive and had any troubles?

Thank you! This sounds like exactly what I need. My day just got whole lot brighter... I'll update here with the results after following this thread...

    *EDIT: 02:40
No go, I added the drivers through nLite's driver integration. I selected to add 'Multiple Drive Folder' and pointed to C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\winall\Driver. It asked me what mode to add the drivers as, something it didn't do when loading the drivers off the CD XOTIC PC sent me. I checked the 'Regular PNP Driver' radio button, which caused all the controllers to highlight. Should have I chose 'Text mode' instead? If so, which ones should I be selecting to integrate?

    *EDIT: 03:20
After poking around that thread some more, I visited the link in RePaRaQu's post. Under the "Notice for XP Installation.pdf" it tells you to disable AHCI, that coupled with the nLite disk I've managed to finally reach the familiar "Choose your partition to install to" screen. Hopefully it becomes smooth sailing from here. Again, thank you Aryantes for having the patience to bear with me. I greatly appreciate it.

Disabling AHCI is one work-around. You will not suffer any kind of performance hit, although, I think I did read that its 'technically' not as good for the harddrive? something about seek times being longer in some cases.

Good to see you can install hehe.

I'm not too sure about all those intel drivers and what modes to play with, I never had to deal with it in that manner.

Great site and threads! I ordered my 2096 last week fron XoticPC and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. Other than the the touchpad nuisance is there anything else I need to update? FWIW I will be using the machine mostly for work (database and programming stuff) and occasional gaming while traveling. I had them install XP home sp2 in advance.
    Thanks!

Thanks! Finally ridding myself of the Gateway POS I have been repairing every few months hahaha. I also have too many freeware apps that I know wont work on V64 so I will wait until I need to upgrade as a last resort.
