lol no 9600GT only able to use medium with some on high

That's the best the 9600M GT can do, it`s a 128 bit card, not to mention the low # of SPs.
It might play all high at a very low resolution, or you can create a custom config, like the one I use for my 8800M GTX SLI.
Very high is unplayable at 1920x1200, but the custom config I use makes it look like very high at 30 fps average.
    PM Magnus72 about it...

maybe the 9600 GT as in the desktop card, but not the 9600 m GT... youre not going to be able to run crysis on high on any laptop smaller than 17" (maybe the np8660? dunno)

hmm I guess I over estimated 9600m GT's potential. (didn't add the m in previous post)
I tried all medium settings on 1280 x 800 res and I get 20 fps just walking around and 15-18 when I shoot 2 enemies.
Guess the only way to get above 20 fps would be to lower the res even more...

It's not just resolution, it's also the texture quality. I doubt you'll get playable framerates at high quality. try toning it down to medium and 1024*768 or 1280*800. I play at these settings and get around 30 FPS with my 8600M GT. Crysis is a very GPU intensive game and even desktops have trouble handling it at full power.

Hmm so it won't even run Crysis at 1280x1024 with medium settings? I thought it would handle that just fine.

The warranty is published on the Sager website as well as Sager reseller's websites.

Your evidence of purchase should be on your Order Confirmation, and your Invoice.

It will run, but at 16-21 fps. =[
I lowered some settings down to low to get 25 fps and that's just walking. When shooting enemies i get between 18-22 fps.

I've had a 2092 from xotic for a while now (very happy, though the touchpad is a little funny at times), but has anyone found a utility that detects and allows you to change the speed of the main system fan?

woot...finally got mine...all i can say is that the stock photos do no justice to what this looks like...its not magnificent but its not fugly either (although the pic looked that way) I haven't really noticed too much heat from the keyboard or palm rests, and there is no sinkage on the keyboard on mine what so ever.

overall im very pleased, I used the start disk and made a vlite version and it is performing very well, I will put up some numbers soon but so far it is idling at 55C for processor and 59C for GPU so I am quite pleased...I plan to dual boot with ubuntu and get those temps down...I guess I have something fun to do while I sit in my lecture tomorrow :)

As Champ24 said, photos don't justice it, I find it really nice.

    Hi J-don,

You can have it either way ... see see "XoticPC" Order Form
    http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np2096-custom-laptop-built-compal-jhl90-p-2409.html?wconfigure=yes&change_view=rbm

I am sure that you also know about "Power Notebooks" folks ... they also allow customaziation ... and they have added the 3GB RAM Option for $35 ... that is a pretty slick Spin on Marketing ... giving you more options!

I just attempted to use the built in microphone. I get no response. I tried adjusting all the possible microphone related setting in control panel and realtek.

Does any one else running xp pro not have their microphone working?

It appears that there is some vista specific microphone array built into the np2096.

    Hi RedVash,

If you have sound you need to open the Sound Proprieties ...
and either enable the Mic or remove the tick from the Box telling the system to Mute the Mic. On the icon in the task bar double click on it and when the Volume Control appears left click on the Options select MIC or add a tick to the box beside Mic and then click OK. Look for the Mic Volume Control and either slid up the Volume Control or remove the Tick from the Mute Box.

If you have sound the Mic is installed as this is part of the Sound Driver but it may need enabling.

Now, if you have no sound ... reinstall the "Sound Drivers". Actually Sager has XP Pro specific Drivers for this laptop ... see below ...

    Sager 2096 Drivers Download
    http://www.sagernotebook.com/information.php?information_id=7

Hope this was of some help!

    "Pros:
    1. The laptop stays pretty cool at all times.
    2. I tried to play crysis on high settings and it was actually not that bad. It
    was actually playable.
    3. The system boots up from a cold start in one minute exactly.
    4. The screen quality is pretty good. I think it is awesome but I'm used an old monitor. Can't compare to Sony because I'm not familiar with the screens on updated laptops
    5. System performance has been great in performing tasks.
    6. The viewing angles are pretty good in my opinion
    7. Battery Life is very good.(9Cell)

    Cons:
    1. The keyboard has flex on the left side
    2. I am not fond of where the directional arrows are on the keyboard.(Too Skinny)
    3. Would rather have Fn and Ctrl key switched around. (personal preference)
    4. Lid is fingerprint magnet."

    Thanks Sphinx!

Now, are there any official reviews of the Sager NP2096 out yet?

    Hi Elite C,

    Congrats on your new Toy!

    1) Can you use HWMonitor 1.10 and take some GPU Temps ... Starting Laptop, then in IDLE mode (running no programs except the HWM) at 5, 10, 15 minutes time frame and then running CPU intesive program (like an Video Encoder or something).

    2) What Screen did you get ... the WXGA or the WSXGA+?

    Thanks,

    G! :)

here is temps after running idle for about 15 min
    [IMG]

here is under cpu load using prime95 as the load. (i found this produces most cpu repeatable heat) this is sitting flat on a table after the temps stabilize
    [IMG]

and now with prime95 and atitools (this is max cpu and video load)

yes that was hot real gaming experience will probably not be so hot
these tools i used for test worst case scenario for overclocking my desktop

I haven't notices any notable flex it the keyboard
my biggest complaint is the arrow keys are smaller
i also wish the bios had more options like boot order and other things but ehh it's a laptop
xp is supposed to be installed with ahci disabled (i did get it working b/c i wanted to dual boot linux)

    i love the screen 1680x1050

it took 2 weeks from order to receiving using xoticpc

I'm having an issue with the fingerprint reader, it appear that the software that came with the notebook won't recongnize data inputs on Firefox 3 or the latest version of Opera, it only works on IE 7. Any advice on how to make it work with Firefox 3??

    Hi Elessar,

THANKS for posting your Temps ... +rep for that and other useful info like XP installation tip ... will save poeple a call to Tech Supprt.

I would be interested to get some MORE Temp Reports form other Sager 2096 Owners in IDLE Mode ... so if anyone else has the time, please use HWMonitor 1.10 freeware program to post.

To me a GPU Temp in Idle starting at 69C and howering around 76C is kind of HIGH. I would have loved seeing it at 55+C starting and staying at 60'sC in Idle mode ... Hope this is not Signs of NVIDIA GPU Heat Issue problems as with G8400 and G8600.

I would suggest for 2096 Owners to definitely use a "Cooler" when Gaming ... just to be on the Safe Side ... or if don't want to pay $60+ dollar for a decent cooler then Raise you laptop off the Table using a 1/2" wood trim strip (put one in front of latop and one in the back) and blow air under it - a cheapy Wal-Mart Persoanl Fan 4" or 6" for about $5 or $6.

    Thanks again,

    G! :)

When I saw the generic pictures of the NP2096 on the Sager website, it appeared to have a black color. However, when people took live pictures of the notebook, it turned out having a dark brown color. Is there a reason for this?

Those of you who already have the 2096...could you please tell me what hard drives you got? Please include the manufacturer and model number of the hard drive.

I'm debating between the 200GB 7200RPM or the 320GB 5400RPM. I hear they are very close and it really only depends on the manufacturer and model number. I don't really care for the extra space but of course it's nice to have...I prefer faster speed and performance though.

While it does matter a lot between manufacturers, 7200rpm generally produce more heat, but access time are almost always better. A 200gb 7200rpm would beat a 320gb 5400rpm in access time, and have similar transfer speeds.

Maybe if you ask the reseller, but I don't know if you can choose the brand. I got the 160GB 7200RPM one, is a Seagate Momentus.

Any ideas on my question 'bout the incompatibility between the Fingerprint reader and Firefox 3??

Nope! The Resellers always tell you they don't know what they will get. Even if you call Sager direct ... the guy will tell U he does not know what the HDD is ... which is NOT TRUE!

    So ... did that answer your Q ... :D

in response to idle temps i'm getting 45C on the cores when on the web and gpu is sitting at 59C...i have the 2.8GHZ and i'm yet to undervolt it

I got the GPU to 100C in light gaming :( then it bsod...now i put a inch high plastic thing under the back so it is at an angle and it does lower then temps a few degrees...(more cold air that can get inside)...besides the bsod i am pleased

although i did check under the hdd and noticed that there are warping heat marks in the plasic...im gonna try to find a thin piece of copper or aluminim to to put inbetween the drive and plasic and see if that helps (cant have melted plasic smell in my laptop)

    Hi Champ,

Your GPU Idle Temp is beautiful.

I am not sure how and why your GPU got to 100C on light gaming!?!? How long were you playing? Just out of curiosity what Game and what set up?

Did you by any chance see my earlier post ... see below

That's sounds bad. Did you update the drivers? Did you try cleaning the vents out? Maybe too much dust accumulated in the vents and is causing the notebook to overheat?

light gaming is a hour of Civ 4...i was really disappointed but now i know how much resources it actually uses (flys on my desktop)

yeah i still have to pick up a cooling pad...(i got the laptop a week ago)

the best fix i have found is just setting it at an angle so there is more air that can be brought into the laptop, the vents are clean (peeked inside earlier) im running the 175 drivers...will be updating to 177 soon.

really i think that the temp was a combo of everything overheating...when i can get my cpu undervolted and get something to spread the heat on the hdd it should help everything a little...also maybe checking fan speeds might help

just wondering if anyone has taken the time to see what the best cooler for this laptop is (i.e. checking the vent alignment etc)?

mine is being shipped and i just wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations for good coolers.

Just FYI, my own temperature numbers...

While playing Civ4 for about 2 hours...

CPU cores maxed at 63 and 62 degrees C, GPU core maxed at 89 degrees C. Hard drive maxed at 40 degrees C.

Those temperatures were with the computer on my lap, and the room ambient temperature at 26 degrees C (about 79 degrees F).

    While sitting idle...

CPU cores at 32 degrees C. GPU core at 64 degrees C. Hard drive at 38 degrees C.

I have the P8400 processor (2.26 GHz, 25 watts), and a 5400 RPM drive, and I'm running WinXP.
