A Macbook ontop of a Clevo? Get that POS off the virgin Clevo.
-
Hrm, I wonder what mine will say instead of "sager" on the lid. Probably nothing. Good pics, keep it coming!
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
It will either say Sager, Eurocom, ProStar, or nothing. It all depends on which distributor Malibal gets their Clevo units from.
In my opinion, I think they get their units from Sager as Malibal completely plagiarized Sager's warranty statement. -
Come on benj.. post a picture of something cool already, like your dead body in CS:S.. -
With a screenshot or a camera?
-
YAY!
Finally we get a review
Let's go man -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I think it's more of a question of when we will get a review. All of the W860CU users are busy pleasuring themselves with 15 inches of overclocked goodness.
-
If anything, the Macbook should be underneath the Clevo because it should know to bow to its hardware superior.
Looking forward to your review. -
Partial review so far, will update tonight.
Any recc's on a new screen, joker reccomends a lg. -
I love my stock 1920x1080 screen, no bad pixels for me.
-
Please provide a detailed review of the screen.
-
Nothing beats an LG. BTW the following are what Dell uses in AW and their Inspiron 1555 models:
WLED 1600x900................lgd020c (LG Electronics)
WLED 1920x1080...............lgd020b (LG Electronics)
They should work in the Sager just fine (you might need a separate connector). If I'm not happy with the AUO, I might consider ordering this screen. -
Hey Joker, do you think that LG screen you linked would work in the asus G51J?
-
hows the keyboard?
-
-
The keyboard is quite good, barley any flex.
The one problem is the right shift key is around half size, but it is easy to adjust to. -
-
Tiny bit of flex over the dvd drive, but nothing serious.

spybenj. I sent out the thermal paste today. You should be getting it in a week or two.
-
Is it wrong to reach out for your pictures on screen spybenj? It's too sexy
-
Is they keyboard flush with the palmrest? I notice in pictures that the keyboard is recessed, so are the keys raised up to offset that? -
The top of the keys are approx 1mm lower than the palmrest.
-
is it noticeable?
-
Hey what is the clock speed of gtx 280? Is it really unlocked?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
It will only be unlocked if you want it to be unlocked. -
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
If your hands can notice a 1mm difference in height on two level planes, then yes.
-
How adequate are the dual fans for cooling the internals? Also, do you know what temperatures your CPU, GPU, and hard drive idle at? Thanks.

my only issue with the full hd screen of the 8690 is that it scales quite badly when using a lower resolution
have you guys had the same issues with this screen? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Any screen that is using a resolution below native scales "badly" for most users. Are you locking the aspect ratio when downscaling? And more importantly, what resolution are you downscaling to?
-
i have tried using the screens native downscaling and nvidias own downscaling.
it seems the nvidia downscale looks better.
i know that a screen looks its best when at native but the sager screen just looks real bad when downscaled. my hp dv9740us never looked this bad when i had to downscale it... -

Is your HP also using a 1920x1080 panel that you downscaled to 1600x900? Downscaling to different resolutions will have different results. For example, if you downscale by a prime number from 1920x1200 to 1440x900 or to 960x600, you will still get a relatively clear resolution, albeit jagged. This is because no data is extrapolated and is just straight up downscaled. If you go down from 1920x1200 to say 1680x1050, you will still get a clear display, but it will look just a bit fuzzier than the lower resolutions, but will not have jaggies. This is because data is extrapolated, chopped, and rounded to fill the whole physical screen.
When scaling to different resolutions, the native display uses simple bilinear interpolation. Some of the later Nvidia drivers add a low level filter to the scaling so that may explain why downscaling using the GPU driver looks better. I haven't been keeping up with screen mechanics so don't take my word on it fully. It may just be a placebo effect. But I'll give you your word for it. When I pick up my W8x0CU later this week, I will test this theory for you. -
my hp was 1440x900 which i would downscale to 1280x800 on demanding games.
i am aware of maintaining the aspect ratio/integer number during scaling, and i do believe the 1600x900 is the right downscale ratio for 1980x1080.
i am using stock drivers 186.81 and i really havent seen much infor on the board regarding driver performance or downscaling ability of other drivers for the 280gtx.
tell me how you like the screen when downscaling when you get yours.
just got mine this tuesday -

Cool. Glad you're enjoying your new notebook. Yes, 1920x1080 to 1600x900 is fine. The resolution is still high to not notice the reduction in quality too much. 1440x900 to 1280x800 is a different story though.
-
the screen is very bright though and gorgeous to look at.
i have had 2 bsod's though and im quite sure its driver related. happened once during gameplay (deadspace) and once while playing a web video.
i dont think its anyhting serious but hopefully we get a better performing driver in terms of performance, stability and downscaling ability -

Just out of my curiosity, who is the manufacturer of your panel in your W860CU? You can check by going to: device manager > monitors > properties > details > hardware id.
-
its an auo10ed

Okay, thank you trvelbug. +1 rep for you.

I play mostly CS:S. -
Mine will be here today, either 11am or 3pm. I'll soon be upgrading to SSD. After intel fixes their trim issue, I'll get an optical bay caddy and put the 500GB into that, and then put a ssd into the main drive in this laptop.
The only thing I'm worrying about with this laptop is the hard drive overheating, reaching 55c and then it shuting down. -
I ordered the $189 rebadged 80gig IBM SSD from newegg. With trueimage and hard drive wipe software (free) I can do a wipe every month and keep ahead of the issues. This is theoretical until I get everything together but for the price... Yeah, no trim -- story of my life LOL.
-
As I was benchmarking mine, the temp for the hard drive never went above 43C. With an ambient temperature of 22C.
Maxing everything out, I managed to get the CPU to 84C, the GPU to 68C. Didn't mess with the fan sticker. -
Removing the sticker caused the hard drive temperature to drop by 5C. The cpu dropped by 8C. The GPU went up by 3C.
-
I ran a defrag and virus scan at the same time to see what my HDD got up to, maxed at 35c with an ambient temp of 20c Its a 500gb 7,200. -

He probably did not observe the temperatures from before and after the sticker removal under a controlled environment. No details were given.
