    Hi,
i wanted to share my thoughts on the Clevo P670RS-G i just got last Friday. Any questions just post them below...

    - Panel: Brilliant. I wanted a 4k panel but i am glad i did not. This 17inch size means i can run 1080p without windows scaling and this means effectively more real-estate and reasonable font size. Running in MSHYBRID mode fixes the panel to 60Hz and no custom resolutions are possible. But changing to DISCRETE (easy via a switch in the CLEVO ControlCentre and reboot) fixes it to 75Hz. With Custom resolutions i was able to get atleast 90Hz possible more have not tried yet...also not sure how i know that it fails...); as far as i can tell also no screenbleed at all.

    - Speakers: em...well not so good. WITHOUT the SOUNDBLASTER XI-M5 Equalizer its unaccepably quiet in games without headphones. Witcher3 voices are drowned out by the fan noise. Once the EQ is installed its much better. But don't expect much bass volume (by the way the driver on CLEVO Homepage is broken, luckily PCSpecialist provides another download which works)

    - Fan Noise / Cooling performance: I got the 6700HQ + GTX1070. The ControlCentre allows setting up Custom Fan Curves so setting it to QUIET where i reduced the MAX fan speed and increased the temperatures for the FAN the laptop is totally QUIET during Windows Normal stuff (browsing, youtube, etc), ie NO fans!
in Games of course the fan must work. I found that the the custom fan curve I set with MAX 72% fans were not enough to cool the CPU and it ramped up to ~90degC. Changing to "MAXIMUM FAN" option in the CC the cooling is very good reducing the temps to around 65-70degC (Battlefield4). Unfortunately, the fan noise is significant at these speeds so i will probably try to find a comprise if i can.

I thinks that is the big three points i had. Rest is fine: touchpad..meh; keyboard: good, nice and sturdy no flex, nice background colors for typing in the dark, weight: well i am using it as a desktop replacement so will not be carrying it around; appearance: quite nice, i like the way it looks.

Any questions let me know (but please don;t ask for benchmarks...)

Overall its good value for money £1500 (excl Windows), this would be against nearly £2000 of the MSI GT72 i was look as my alternative.

Intel are working on custom resolutions but it could still be a fair bit off.

Hows the overall feel? Plastic fantastic?

I ordered one from eluktronics a few days ago and get it next week. hopefully not as cheesy feeling plastic as the asus gl502vs i returned to amazon a few weeks ago. ugh. never had a clevo and have heard mixed things. anxious to try one out.

The palm rest is aluminium, so is the top lid as well. So not plastic.
I owned the p150em before and that's is pure ugly plastic/soft rubber touch. Much prefer the P670rs.

Yes, nicer materials where you touch with a high quality plastic chassis.

-G denotes G-sync on the internal panel. All models support external G-Sync.

    PCSpecialist 17" Defiance III

17" is always rather large, the 15" Defiance III is a more portable option.

Thank you. I'd be interested to know OP's customisation options to achieve £1500 as I seem to be hitting £1700 minimum. Also, they have no mention of GSync on the Defiance III on their website

Not sure about pricing as I'm in the U.S. Your right about GSync though. The 15" version came out to just under 1500 lbs with a 500GB hdd. Which is admittedly bad.

1500 lbs LOL, I suppose reading that out loud would sound the same. ;)

GBP... Yeah don't really know what I was thinking. To be fair I was thinking about the weight of a GT62 while writing that for a different tab iirc...

With the weakened price and the 20% VAT on machines in the UK the price seems about right.

    Hi,

i did not get Windows (i had a previous licence on my older P150EM i was able to move (that was a bit tricky)). Also my only Harddrive is only a SATA SSD Samsung 750 500GB, not a NVMe.

Here the Spec sheet (with the useful bits):
    Chassis & Display
Defiance Series: 17.3" Matte Full HD IPS LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
    Processor (CPU)
    Intel® Core™ i7 Quad Core Processor 6700HQ (2.6GHz, 3.5GHz Turbo)
    Memory (RAM)
    16GB HyperX IMPACT 2133MHz SODIMM DDR4 (2 x 8GB)
    Graphics Card
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070 - 8.0GB GDDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1, G-SYNC
    1st Hard Disk
    500GB Samsung 750 2.5" SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 520MB/sW)
    Power Supply
    1 x 230W AC Adaptor
    Thermal Paste
ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND

    Operating System
    NO OPERATING SYSTEM REQUIRED
    Operating System Language
    Warranty
3 Year Silver Warranty (1 Year Collect & Return, 1 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour)

In regards to your earlier question: the 17" is a bit bulky to carry every day to lecture. If this required then i would actually suggest a different 13-14inch one... the power brick on these Gaming Laptops is alone too massive to carry around. Battery does not last a whole Uni day i would think.

    Hope this helps.

Yes its got G-Sync, which is really needed as well...the screen tearing is otherwise quite bad.

the Panel is very good, I have overclock the panel to 100Hz and it works perfect!

(glad i did not go for a 120Hz TN Panel on other options)
