Hello all! First time posting on this forum so please correct me if I'm doing anything wrong.
As to the topic at hand, my main question is whether or not Sager NP867# and NP977# has fan noise when idling? Can the fan stop completely when idling or doing light tasks? If not how audible are they?
Back story:
I'm looking for a 17 inch 980M desktop replacement laptop that has little to no gaming look. It will remain stationary in my home. One of my criteria is fan completely off or spinning at near inaudible levels when idling or doing light tasks such as web browsing or editing documents.
I came across several laptop options, the cheaper being NP8678 and the more expensive NP9778-S. However there is little to no reviews out there for their earlier models and none of which covers their sound level when idling or doing light tasks. So here I am making this thread. If you happen to know a laptop that covers my criteria I would love to know about it!
All responses are appreciated thank you!
EDIT: I realized this should be in the Sager and Clevo section. Sorry about that! Could the moderators help move this for me? Thank you!

hey there!
welcome to the clevo side of life, uve already made the right choice for your next machine if you ask me
as for fan noise, seeing that the P7 DM series is basically the same as the ZM series chassis wise (former translating into NP9778, the latter to NP9772), i can only say that these machines are so dead silent during idle & light loads, one actually worries if the fans are broken *lol* admittedly, ive undervolted my cpu in order to keep it cooler and thus the fans become active less often, but still: the cooling system is quite powerful, but at the same time very silent indeed
let other ZM owners add some more details on this! as for the DM machines, ull need to be a bit patient and keep an eye on the respective owner´s lounges, since the first machines will only arrive sometime this or next week, but it should be quite sooncrystal6tak likes this. -
EDIT: After a bit more digging I may have found the answer. From here and here (post 427). Awesome! Found what I was looking for.Last edited: Sep 28, 2015 -
haha yes, the names are a bit confusing at times i find it easiest to stick to the original clevo designations, since clevo is the one building and designing the chassis
Clevo 17 inch P770ZM = Sager NP9772
Clevo 15 inch P750ZM = Sager NP9752
Clevo 17 inch P770DM = Sager NP9778
Clevo 15 inch P750DM = Sager NP9758
Clevo 17 inch P775DM = unknown yet
Clevo 17 inch P870DM = unknown yet
Clevo 15 inch P650RG/P650RE = Sager NP8658
Clevo 17 inch P670RG/RE = Sager NP8678crystal6tak, Bullrun and TomJGX like this. -
My P771ZM is quite quiet when idling, it's literally silent even when CPU and GPU are doing some minor tasks.. I had to buy headphones to game in peace with my Alienware but no such problems with Clevo.. Rarely have to use max fans to reduce temps...

I'd agree. I don't think I've ever really noticed the fan noise on idle on those, and I don't think I can remember anybody bringing idle fan noise as an issue or complaint on the system.
