Yes, but at 30 FPS, wouldn't half the refreshes simply refresh the screen with the same frame as the one before, making it indistinguishable from not refreshing at all? Not trying to be difficult here, I'm just trying to understand the differences.

No problem. If your movie was playing at 30FPS you would not notice a difference in the screen refreshing at 60hz or 120hz.
Having the faster refresh rates will help with gaming though. Some games like World of Warcraft have the option to enable vsync which will limit the refresh FPS to 60, this eliminates page tearing. With a 120hz and vsync enabled you can get up to 120FPS. Other games dont even have this option and will cap your FPS at the max hz. If you were playing one of those games you'd be capped at 60FPS even if your hardware could run it much higher. With a 120hz screen it will now allow 120FPS.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanations.

Yes, to make this a bit more clear: when your source its lower than 120FPS using a 120Hz refresh rate will simply refresh each fame more than once, for example:

If you have a video at 60FPS; a 120hz screen will only refresh twice every single frame but it wont look any better or more fluid compared to watching the same video on a 60hz screen.

However, if you have a video-game that generates 120FPS your 120hz screen will refresh each frame at least once, when on a 60hz screen it does not matter if your game generates 120+ FPS because it cannot "refresh" all the frames on time, only half of them. ;) Basically, its the same as having a "cap" of 60fps because some "intermediate" frames ARE there just not showing on screen.

Hehe ^^; I'm sure you are not the only one (I was too until a few months ago). The game feels like playing a High-budget martial art movie =p I plan to get this when it comes out in America for sure!

    Hey guys!

I made a new video with my P170HM3D ^^ it's a gameplay-test on Alan Wake (the new suspense game):

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/51OLEPQIM7s?version=3&amp;hl=es_MX&amp;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/51OLEPQIM7s?version=3&amp;hl=es_MX&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width='853' height="480" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

I'm happy the game runs perfectly on the SATORI, I maxed out all options except for the AA that is on 2X and the view-distance was set on medium, since It's not appropriate for this game to lower the shadows or lighting quality as you can see =p

    Enjoy~

Thanks for the reviews guys. I've been shopping around and it look's like I might go with Malibal just because of the 120hz Matte Display. Anybody know if they currently have any promotions or deals going on? I've only noticed the $135 discount on any built from their site. Let me know if you know something better.

How is the screen using the gtx 560m I saw one person have it in their sig rig. I have one on order with malibal, I am debating if I should upgrade to the 580m or wait until it is needed.

    Hi Guys,

I have a Clevo P170HM notebook with matte screen.
Is possible it has a 120hz screen?

Where can i check this? My control panel shows 60hz maximum.
Do i have to install drivers or is this just a 60hz version?

    Thanks!

No you have the 60hz screen, if you had 120hz it would show up with no changes.
