Looks very similar to the cooling layout inside the M980NU (to the point it MIGHT be identical). Told you the cooling on these were decent :)

More of a general thing than directly to you Don, I've seen a lot of AW owners assuming thier cooling was better than the Clevo because of the metal case etc, but as you've just seen from the Clevo pics, thier cooling setups are pretty damned solid.

Yeah seeing all that copper sure does bring tears to my eyes :)...

Still cant decide upon this machine or the 8760 :(....

Im leaning toward the 8760 and then a fermi card for my desktop other wise just the X8100 ... Kinda rather have the best of both worlds is the attitude i have right now...

Ok so I have now finally done it. I have ummed and arred for about 3 weeks now on what to get but after a phone call with Kobalt today I have pulled the plug on the X8100.

I set myself a budget of £2500 and squeezed slightly over it but hopefully I have made the right choice.
I play a lot Counter Strike Source so no performance issues there, but I was very hardcore on Supreme Commander and then the Forged Alliance expansion. I aim to get and play Supreme Commander 2 when it comes out so I am hoping that I have specced a good system for that.

I was seriously torn between the D900F and the X8100 because SupCom was extremely heavy on CPU and to be honest I have never been a huge fan of SLI. Also by going with the X8100 I have skimped on HDD's to increase the CPU to the 920 and stay close to budget.

I just hope I made the right choice but I guess only time will tell.

SC2 is meant to be less CPU heavy than one due to some heavy coding reworks (at least according to Sorian, writer of the Sorian AI for SC who now works for GPG).

My Norton is saying that...lchgkey.exe is a virus I highly doubt my computer was shipped with a virus...but I can't find any program associated with this process...I believe it would be related to the programming of the game keys on the side.

Can anyone confirm this for me, thanks.

I won't use norton or mcafee even if they are free or included in a purchase.

Too many bad experiences and there are way too many free apps that work better.

First post here... I figure I'd visit the 8120 owners thread since that's the notebook I'm considering. From what I've been reading, it seems like a solid choice.

I do have one question, however...

How is the stock 3D audio? I was considering an X-Fi ExpressCard since my homebrew mid-tower has an X-Fi audio card. If I'm accustomed to X-Fi sound, would the onboard sound let me down? Worst case, I just buy the addon card separately if needed.

I'm currently looking at Xoticpc, for what it's worth.

Just ordered the NP8120 through XoticPC.
    8 Go RAM
    Blu RAY burner
    2 x 500 Go HD
    core i-720 3 yr warranty
Anyone REALLY satisfied with the laptop.
Anyone also DISsatisfied with it? and why???

What about the LCD brightness of colours ...and speaker sound ???

Which carrying bag do you recommend?

Sign 100%. Those 2, especially norton
My rule of thumb is: if it's heavy and expensive -> screw it!
The only exception is M17X-R2 :p
    Use something light&free like Avast.

The screen is really nice the speakers are "meh". A nice pair of headphones do the trick though.

Blu-Ray on this thing is a sight to behold. It really is a fabulous screen I have to say.

Starting to believe we are not going to see any better GPUs in this beast before the end of this year. In my eyes the GTX 285M is just not good enough and after hearing Justin from Xoticpc saying the HD 5870 they have got does not have CF connectors that tells me Clevo will not get CF HD 5870 for quite a while. And it seems the much rumoured GTX 380M is not appearing and that means we will have to wait for a mobile fermi version which I would guess is going to take ages to release. *Sadface* :(

Try the tweak I mentioned previously. If the sub/mid-speaker isnt active then you're distinctly limited.

Sorry I lose track of where I've put things sometimes, and I'd put it in the X8100 review thread not this one.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5945792&postcount=6

It works on the M980NU, if the sound stuff is the same on the X8100, it should work for that too, depends on whether you have the same set of options. :)

hello everyone, I just have a couple questions for those of you who can answer me, thank you. Before I ask, I know you noticed where I bought my computer from xD "Eurocom" I know lol but acually there not as bad as everyone thinks, sure there a little pricey but I havent had any problems with there support or anything, when I ordered my Lappi I was even given 2gb of free ram. Anyways I guess I recieved the new bios with my lappi cuz it doesnt allow me to enable turbo boost or to even oc it. Someone did mention e-leet but i cant download it anyways besides the evga site but then i need the serial number of a evga motherboard and i dont have that so how did you guys manage to get e-leet? thanks again

oh yeah I forgot to mention, I been playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 and its been giving me some serious graphic glitches..checked temps with speed fan and gpu tops at 73, is that bad? I thought it was normal? Sall Idisable sli and try without it?

No all vendors support overclocking, regardless of the chip you have. They may have simply decided they dont want thier users overclocking.

as for tempretures they are find, thermal temps are about 105 degrees before burn out

your temps are not your problem

Well, as per my signature, I will see if theres anything that can be done with the audio (before I swap to my DAC) ASAP when I have the machine, and if I find anything that makes an improvement over a stock install, I'll write it up :)

That said Im getting the unlocked BIOS so Im looking forward to seeing what my laptop can clock like too (Im thinking as this laptop has a 220W PSU IIRC, it might struggle to remain 100% stable with too high an overclock, because of the dual GPU setup).

PS. Had it confirmed at least my machine should be coming with LED, rather than dual CCFL backlighting :)

The reason i asking is because in BattleField Bad company 2 I get strange graphic glithes... And read that many get em , and solution is to update drivers.. I updated with the ones from the SAger page, and they are still there..
Any help on this would be welcome..

And another question, How do you configurate the 8 G1-G8 hot keys ? Can't find anything out there... lol

Yeah I just checked it's on 1-7 in the Quick Start section.

hey all. i just picked up one of these notebooks last friday (the aussie version anyway - Metabox X8100) and absolutely lovinggggggg it! im curious about one thing though. one graphics benchmark i like using is Furmark (v1.80). and i get absolutely shocking framerates with it when SLi is enabled. about 15-20 fps with the resolution set @ 1920x1080. all drivers are the default ones preinstalled. i would love to know what sort of results other users of this awesome lappy are getting.

Sounds more like single card results there in Furmark, are you running full screen or windowed.

One thing to bear in mind is Furmark is generally used more as a stress testing programme, rather than a benchmark, programmes like Vantage and a few of the pre-canned game walkthroughs are preferential.

Dependant on what driver revision is installed for your GPUs, I'd consider looking to mod some new ones to work, because Clevo's stock drivers are no doubt out of date.

Fullscreen. Anyways, this problem for me is now solved. Furmark was not the only app suffering. i installed Resident Evil 5 and was getting really sh!tty fps on that too. around 20ish with all settings cranked up with 8x AA. as suggested i tried a more recent nVidia driver. 196.21 to be exact. and furmark now averages 60 fps @ 1920x1080 with 8x AA. and around 60ish fps on RE 5. very pleased as i was only getting about 17 fps on both apps beforehand. maybe SLi is broken in the 186 driver? or i was doing something hopelessly wrong lol

Can anyone here help\guide me to how i go about getting those 196.21 drivers in my X8100 ?

All I can find are desktop versions of the drivers. And they will not work.. Should I use nvmodtool to convert them to notebook ? Any help is great help. :)

Im using Win7 pro 64bit, twin GTX 285M sli.

I was having the same problem as you and I searched the forums and finally found something that works..oki go to your documents folder in windows 7 then click on BFBC2 folder. Now you will see there is a file called settings.ini double click that and change the DxVersion from 10 to 9..i think it says 10, cant remember but just take whatever is says there and add a 9and it will work perfect for you..I play with everything on max even the resolution and get 40-70 fps..the game is so kick ..best game i ever played hands down..MW2 is a joke compared to this xDDD

    anyways enjoy :)

    The dx9 setting worked :D

But still having problems with this 187.82 drivers.. considering FPS..
PC specs in sig, but in FurMark 1.8.0 i get 22FPS average as the best results.. and thats on 1280*720 res, on full HD 8x AA i get 12 FPS.. And I know that this is to low.. Only one of the GPU's go up in heat.. SO it looks like SLI in 187.82 dont work..

I found 196,21 drivers with modified ini file. but after installing this one it told me to connect my two cars together.. hence only one worked.. And same FPS results as I get on 187.82 drivers...

Please anyone help me out here, I wanna use my SLI fully.
What drivers ? and where to get them? im lost....

    In advance thanks..

p.s When I disable SLI in nvidia controll panel.. reboot , i get average fps 52 ??? isnt SLI activated supose to boost fps ??
