Haha, thank you for the sacrifice, but I must decline! I shall be the only one violating this laptop for quite sometime.

I told my family and friends they can't even look at it too long.

Yes as treysoucie said pic of the BIOS would be great. Especially any performance options for the CPU along with the sub menus.

just talked with the guys at Malibal... they confirmed OC options in the bios for the 920xm... but wasnt able to go into detail... also, was told that 2hdd is the limit of the raid capabilities... said it must be limitation of the chipset, but upon looking up the PM55 specs it doesnt appear so... guess its a bios limitation :(

Hopefully Miss Malevolent will provide the missing details. ;)

Regarding the RAID controller, this is still a laptop and not a server or even desktop. So it's basically a SATA controller with built in software to handle RAID 0/1 with two disks. Anything beyond that would require a real RAID controller.

woudnt this be the same thing as say intels ich10r (desktop) southbridge which is basically the same as you describe.... using intel matrix storage manager for software control of the raid array... im not really displeased as i think 2 kingston v series 128 gb drives would fly in raid 0. hopefully the sata controller can handle the bandwidth of 2 ssds in raid 0... but if its possible to raid 0 3x 500gb 7200rpm hdd's id rather go this route vs 2 ssd's... just for the simple fact that trim is unsupported in a raid config, and i would hate having to reformat and reprogram then align every few months....

    I think you need a desktop. ;)

Go with a SSD+HDD combo and forget about RAID...just my opinion.

What Mandrake said, from what I have heard SSDs don't really need the raid setups and it would be better with a SSD for OS + some programs of your choice and a larger HDD for storage.

i will need raid for more capacity... 128gb is not enough space for the fast loading appz i would want.... i think maybe the d900f with 975x and 3x 500gb hdd in raid 0 would be better suited for my needs....

i probably have 140-150 gigs of actual software i would want installed onto the raid array let alone the numerous 5-10gb per model/project i would want loaded onto the raid array as well (this doesnt even include the os)... im not looking to spend upwards of 800.00 for a single 250gb ssd.... this is why i was looking to possibly raid 2x 128gb as i can get 2 of them for 500.00...

It seems SSD's aren't for you period.

If you can't pony up the dough for multiple 256GB SSD's and capacity is a must, then look elsewhere really.

prolly not the best idea for using ssd's in a mobile workstation period... but appreciate yalls input... i think the d900f is more suited i cant see needing sli setup... the 18" lcd is nice but with lower res. than the d900f

GTX 380M SLI will NOT be compatibille in X8100.

From what I saw couple weeks ago GTX 380M has TDP of 100Watts
but I am not going into any details. Before release it might change but no current laptop can handle 100W TDP in MXM 3.0B - thus MXM 3.0b is okay with 100W GPU.

GPU temp in current line very good, I cant say that about CPU temps W86/87 has CPU temp bit higher compared to Asus Core i7 based laptops but still.
However 120W TDP PSU cannot definitelly handle such a GPU. D900F is going to support SLI + Core i9 and I bet they will adjust GPU heatsink to support GTX 380M puppies as well (with 300W PSU? )

Conclusion: W86/87 and M98 will not support GTX 380M or SLI because of PSU and TDP limitations. GTX 380M will difinitelly be TOP mobile GPU. Only AW and CLEVO laptops will be able to get this beast running cool :)

Well, like I said I am not going into details.Someone here already mentioned D9F refresh will get SLI as its used to be for last couple models in D9x line but who knows if GTX 380M will come only as single or dual GPU - was 100W gpu couple weeks ago I heard about it. To your question - Asian contact I accidentally met during business is all I can say, that's it.
He also told me about GTS 360M couple months ago before it was even announced and it was true. I guess it will be first GT200 core in 40nm but I dont know. All I have been told is that GTX 380M might be 100W GPU and D9F will get SLI again.

Not to discredit anyone but it didn't take Nostradamus to predict that the GTS 260M would get rebranded as a GTS 360M. ;)

    The Quadro FX3800M is 100W....coincidence?

As Phinagle say its not as secret as it might seem. If Fx3800M is 100W that makes sense GTX 380M will be 100W as well. Only D9F supports it right ? This confirms M98/W87 and W86 will not support 100W GPUs.

If it's like the FX3800M then the GTX 380M will still be a 55nm GTX 280M rebrand.

Hmm we will see. Personally I think it will be first GT200 40nm. Rebranded GTX 280M will not outperform HD5870M - or will? It would be waste for nvidia. Why do you think that Nvidia removed GTX 380M from their website and there is only empty box http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_m_series.html? My opinion is GT200 core, we can speculate next few weeks :D

PS: Can you imagine 100W GPU in SLI with Core i7? 250W+PSU would be required :D

Screens are basically the same in M980 and X8100:

    980NU:

    CMO1800
    N184H4-L01

    X8100:

    CMO1803
    N184H4-L04

The L04 is supposed to be rated at 300 nits Luminance rather than the 250 nits of the L01 but they are pretty much identical.

Also I saw a question about the RAID options, you can only have 2 of the 3 drives in RAID - simple chipset limitation on the PM55 unfortunately.

I just don't see a mobile 40nm GPU having a TDP of 100W....that's just 8W short of the desktop HD5770.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a notebook pump that much juice through a 40nm GPU (since then I wouldn't bother with an SLI/Crossfire rig) but I just think that's too big a jump in power for a G200 core.

Maybe if it was 2 x G215(GTS 360M) cores on a single PCB then I could believe a 40nm Nvidia card taking up 100W.

core i9? is that the new i7 6 cores? thought they said they were not gonna be i9??? anyways that would be sick if the d9f would support sli... id wait on pruchase if i knew it was coming soon... also i
guess the 6 core i7 support is just a bios flash away.

So i got my NP8120 last week not really done any hardcore benchmarks on it. Just slapped a copy of windows 7 on it and my apps and games. All drivers are at stock, no tweaks, mods, or overclocking. Didn't setup for raid either(I was lazy). All in all pretty impressed this laptop pretty much chews thru all the games i have at max settings even with all the apps i have running in the background.
