Wow, never realized how much better these models (775) looked than the (870) models.

    Much thinner bezels too.

Maybe I'll have to get the next version with 8-core + 1180. :D

Yes you are right, this is an overview not a full review :) my English is not perfect, you are always teaching me something new, I'm always appreciate your deep knowledge and information sharing.
And as you said pre-order only is available for now at HID, but I don't know if those Taiwanese / Chinese dealers have the same status.
Maybe SAGER will surprise all of us to be the first re-seller has a complete and ready stock available, even with the 8700k shortage issue.
BTW I bought many laptops from SAGER and Xoticpc started with P570 ended with DM2.

I am super interested in this model since I wont be ever doing SLI and I would prefer a smaller form Factor.

I just am worried about temps.

If I go with hidevolution and get the undervolted, delidded, and oced (4.7 nothing high) it should handle cooling well right?

I feel the need to mention this!

HID and a very few select resellers might be able to fix temps, but you should mind who your seller is. I mean it...

The z17X/27X use the socket 1151 reV1 . The coffee Lake z370 use the 1151 reV2 , so absolutely the 8700K cant feet in the old socket.

Fairly interested in this. @Donald@HIDevolution - When can we expect temperatures (i7 8700K (CLU + Delid, 4.8GHz option on your website) + GTX 1080) from you guys?

Been lurking these forums for almost 8 years, but have never posted. So here's my first post.

I'm on the market for a new laptop, and have been considering this laptop (Clevo P775TM1-G) Has anyone have any experience with previous models and desktop processors throttling (especially the K series). What's your experience like? Would it help if instead of pairing a K series processor (8700K) with a 1080 I go for a 1070 or a 1060? Thanks in advance for all the help.

Depending on the paste job and how the heatsink fits, you can get something like the CPU temps going almost to 99C, point at which they slow down. You don't really feel them slowing down much, but you know, you do know it is reaching 99C and the life might be short.

To solve that you either try to get a better paste job or heatsink, or you lower the clocks... Mine has been running at 4.0 GHz since day 1, and at first it was reaching max 85C with it, now it is reaching 99C even like this, so it is going back to the shop for them to do a repasting with Phobya NanoGrease, since they tightened one screw too much and I can't remove it myself.

You don't really feel any slowdown and it will run faster than any BGA laptop, even if it is overheating and throttling, so don't worry too much.

Of course, as long as you buy it from a @Prema partner shop, becuase otherwise the performance will be skippy.

Those temps are too high for my liking. I would be in the 70s with 7700K @ full turbo clocks. That was of course with delid and liquid ultra.

But P775TM needs to be able to handle 8700K stock full turbo at low 70s with full delid and liquid ultra otherwise there's not much potential to overclock or even game/render for long periods of time.

Well, I have a feeling that is a big part of the issue, 8700k is supposedly hotter than 7700K was, and 6700K is cooler than both, yet I still reached 99C with it.

For the record, I was using Arctic MX-4 and no delid, so I highly recommend people to go with sellers that offer liquid metal or better thermal solutions, or to apply one of those solutions themselves!

If you get it from a reputed system builder you won't have temp issues. I would never get a Clevo laptop if it wasn't from a Prema Partner. I recommend you get it from HIDevolution as they do an awesome job in building, testing, and applying the thermal paste using their special methods to ensure you get a laptop that works great out of the box.

The laptop won't throttle if it has the Prema BIOS and a proper paste job.

See the benefits of the Prema BIOS below:

    • Restores user ability to overclock or underclock the CPU
    • Restores user control over CPU power settings (voltage, watts, amps) for optimal performance and/or thermal efficiency
    • Restores ability to control non-turbo CPU core ratio
    • Restores ability to control CPU c-states and p-states
    • Restores ability to control BCLK (northbridge) and FCLK (System Agent) frequency
    • Restores ability to enable Intel Speed Shift Technology functionality
    • Restores ability to disable Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX) functionality which is intended for software developers who want to use that feature and causes erratic system behavior
    • Restores ability to control RSR, Watchdog Timer, ASPM, ACPI sleep and hibernation functionality
    • Restores ability to control RAM timings, clock speeds and enables the utilization of XMP profiles
    • Restores ability to control selection of Legacy, UEFI and CSM to install whatever operating system is desired
    • Restores ability to control CPU-based DEP, AES (encryption) and Virtualization
    • Restores ability to control GPU scaling, PCIe speed and power management features
    • Restores control over Thunderbolt and USB 3.1 configuration
    • Restores control over SATA port configuration and Intel LPM. Having the ability to disable drive ports allows exclusive control over what drive receives the BCD/boot sector, system and recovery partitions during Windows Setup and eliminates the need to physically remove non-OS drives when installing a new OS.

I agree, it is a must to get those bonus services with a Clevo laptop, otherwise you're kinda on your own.

I am expecitng my Romanian reseller to do me a warranty something something, so I'll have some feedback on how that goes as well pretty soon.

Hey @Phoenix - long time since we chatted. What do you estimate the temps to be for a delidded 8700K from HIDevolution (tagging @Donald@HIDevolution for obvious reasons) with the 1080? I am deciding between this and the GT73VR. From the pics I have seen, the P775TM has a redesigned cooling solution, yet the weight is quoted as the same as the P775DM3.

I am looking for a sub-10lbs machine that will not overheat. I can't carry around something like the P870TM, which weighs 12lbs+. Not looking forward to having something like the GT75VR either, which is also massive. So it comes down to the P775TM and the GT73VR. Temperatures are a high priority for me. Does the EVOC P775TM have a good enough cooling system? Is there any other laptop I should consider? @hmscott @Papusan

While it is impossible to quote or even guess at temps for the EVOC High Performance Systems P775TM, what I can tell you is the GT73VR will run MUCH cooler...double digit Celsius cooler.

The GT73 is the coolest running high performance laptop out of the box even before undervolting and tuning the fans.

If you want high performance, and you want low temps, you need to realize that mass and size can't be cheated on, you can squeeze it a little by increasing the fan noise, but that's not acceptable to even more people than the size / weight.

While the TDP of the 6c/12t may be listed as "a little higher", when OC'ing with unlocked power restraints no longer limiting TDP you will have 50% more cores/threads generating heat, it's going need even more cooling, more size / mass, and more fan speed or volume throughput.

You don't get free performance, you pay with increases in power and thermal cooling requirements.

There's no good guesses right now, it depends on the design and implementation, you'll need to wait for reviews and owner reports.

Thanks for the prompt reply. IMO, if the 8700K stays at ~80C under heavy load (after delidding), the P775TM is a serious contender.

BTW, @Donald@HIDevolution - Why is the maximum global warranty you offer for the GT73VR Titan Pro-866 only 1 year? I would be interested to see if you guys could stretch that more.

Thanks for your good advice bro @hmscott - I agree that we can't cheat physics. Oh, what I'd give to see a Eurocom Tornado F7 with 8700K and 1080 in a GT73VR chassis. Anyway, one can only dream. Thanks for your help!

Hey, it might happen, only time will tell.

It takes the builder to have the patience to tune the heatsink for best cooling performance, and follow through with that tuning for each and every laptop going through QA, otherwise the design might have great potential, but the realization through manufacture and test won't deliver on that potential.

So far history has shown that what comes out to the user needs additional adjustment to get that full potential.

It won't happen, Eurocom said that they'd only release the Tornado F7 in 2H18, with Intel's 8 Core Mainstream Desktop processors on Z390 chipset. I agree with you about the tuning though.

The F7 and F5 are based on MSI whitebox laptops, not Clevo.

This thread is about Clevo, and that's what I was discussing...Clevo is supposed to be bringing out Coffeelake K/non-K desktop CPU's and in 1H18 Coffeelake H laptop CPU's, so those might have what you want :)

Oops, misunderstood your comment. Agree with you, though I'm looking to buy the laptop by 20th November. Again, thanks for your help

It isn't limited to 1 Year, but you have to select the 2 or 3 Year US warranty to open up the 2 and 3 Year Global warranty selections.

I've never owned an MSI, but that GT73VR better have temps in the 50s or 60s then, otherwise we're going to be getting a 775TM1 that has similar temps to 775DM3. :(
