Okay, this looks like a newer version of the NP8290.

mSata Data drop issue?
I've forgotten now the few small improvements I noticed, but what I'm most concerned with is if this model fixes the mSata random data drop issue that occurred with the previous version.

UPDATE:
This version DOES fix the mSata random data drop issue with apparently the second msata port.
Confirmed from two different company's, and it's apparently the ONLY fix and reason for the 8295 release.

Anyway, I'm going to be upgrading most of the options, which makes it go up to a $2,000 laptop...
But, it will be my first "gaming" computer, and hopefully I'll be happy.

I may still go with something else, but this is where I'm at at the moment.
It's late now, and I will update further with more information etc., so this thread can actually be of substance.

Touchpad Positioning not good:
There is one issue I have noticed with the laptop, and seems the same with some of the others.
I really think they are making the Touchpads too "wide". I think they need to move it to the Left also about 3/4 of an inch, and take off a half and inch from the width. I did some testing, and my right hand main palm muscle will likely be resting on the entire right corner section fully half of the pad. I will likely have to turn the pad off to use the keyboard. So, I don't think they have positioned the pad correctly. It could go to the left at least 3/4 and only then just touching the corner with the hand meat. Don't get me wrong, I know why they moved it over so much, which was a good idea, but they just went much too far.

Anyway, post your thoughts....

Have you had a look to see if there is a disable touchpad while typing option.

I don't actually have the laptop yet, I'm waiting for the refund from the last laptop I got Acer, it and Lenovo both had wireless dropping issues, and the Acer also had a bad webcam, so I returned them.

I went to PClaptops today and tested this model to double check, and I was right that once in awhile your meat will touch the pad and the cursor will do stuff. They did tell me a small "software" could be installed that would turn off the touchpad automatically while typing, but still, that's not perfect either because when you pause typing, it will turn back on and you can accidentally touch it again before typing and the cursor will go places.

It's funny how the MSI has a button to turn off the touchpad yet it seems to not really be needed but the Sager does need a button for sure but they don't have one. I also don't like the Sager touchpad buttons. They seem cheap, not a strong click, and the fingerprint reader should be above the touchpad. I also don't like that the Sager's touchpad is not recessed down. Basically, I wish the Sager's touchpad was designed exactly like the MSI one (though the MSI I think needs to be moved to the right 1/2 an inch to be perfect.

I love everything else about the Sager over the MSI. I don't need all the button functions of the MSI (though the touchpad one is nice), just more stuff that can cause buggy. I don't like how they put some ports in the front side instead of the back side, though yes most ports are in the back and back side. Also, the MSI GPU is not upgrade-able. So, I want to choose the Sager, but I really don't like the touchpad and buttons, but I type a lot, and it's irritating. Of course, I always use a mouse, so I hate touchpads anyway, but I sometimes do use the touchpad so I like to have it usually on or a quick button would be nice.

So, I'm going to have to do a lot of thinking....

p.s. Did you know that PClaptops a Utah/Henderson NV company charges you something like $3,000 for their base model without much upgrades, and it's a Sager/Clevo computer they've modded? haa haa.... what a rip-off!!! But to be fair, they do need that money for all the advertising they do and their lifetime service benefit their customers get when buying from them. Of course, with upgrades you're looking at a $4,000 computer, compared to buying online from Xotic for example for $2,000. So, is that worth it? I don't think so....

 

There is an FN key combo to turn it off and on.

 

Hmmm... Maybe will go with the Sager then. That would be perfect.
What about the Fan's....? I've heard the MSI fan is much quieter then the Sager fans except in turbo mode.

 

MSI is quieter mainly because its one larger fan for the CPU and GPU. Sager uses seperate fans for the CPU and GPU which is a little louder however can have lower temps.

 

Alright I seem to be having a problem with this model, mostly related to the keyboard and hotkey software. So after receiving this laptop I decided to take my sdd from my desktop, with Windows 8 already installed, and use it as my primary hard drive in the Sager. I went ahead and started to install drivers and other software from the Sager website ( Software Upgrade). I found out there that the 8290 and 8295 use the exact same drivers and software. So far all the drivers and programs seem to be working fine except the hotkey program. When I try to install the program I get the error message as follows, Error Number: 0x80040707 Description: DLL function call crashed:GetProductdll.GetProductID. It said setup will now terminate after that, and it doesn't get any further than that (same message any time I try to install it. I went ahead and tried the hotkey software for the other OS's, no luck there same message.
