I've been playing Crysis on max settings with the GTX 470. Using HW monitor, I never get past 60 degrees. I idle at around 38 degrees.
:edit: I will double check with your MSI afterburner though, just to see if I get different numbers. In addition, I live in the north... if that makes a different in terms of temperature haha
:edit again:
Using MSI afterburner, I get around a max of 65 degrees on max settings after 15 minutes of Crysis. That includes major fire fights and water effects.

I have the stock screen -
Why does E-check (via Paypal) take so long? I paid via electronic check on other things and its instant. Its not 1985 so what's the problem? lol
-
PayPal e-check is never instant. They actually have to make a withdrawal from your bank account, process the funds, and then issue the check to be deposited in another bank. Bank laws allow for x number of days for each type of transaction and you can be certain banks take as long as they can to hold on to your funds as long as they can.

Manufacturer LG Display
Model LP173WF1-TLC1 -
Thanks. My purpose was to check whether it was the same model which is used in the new M17x.
The ID for that screen is LGD02DA, and I can't find any information on it. -
Model LP173WF1-TLC1 shouldn't be in this class of notebook. My first words after running P170HM was "this screen must be replaced". My 2-year VAIO stock screen was much better than this. Why Clevo/Sager couldn't put for example B173HW01 V.4 or V.5 on stock? There is no big price difference but quality is much much better.
-
Since the boards are quite.
What is the difference between the I7-2820 and 2920?
All I can see is .2GHZ normal and .1GHz on turbo. Oh and the QM and XM designators. lol
How can the 2920 be worth double the price of the 2820? $500 more?
Can the 2920 be overclocked? I don’t think the 2820 can. Is that true?
Just curious. -

its 1330 and my laptop is 80 miles away from me in a UPS facility!!!!! And my matte screen protector is45 miles away in another UPS facility. Will they arrive together ... who knows ... film at eleven!

So last night, I was playing WoW (in a raid with lots of stuff going on), 1920x1080, locked at 60fps, recording full-framerate, full-resolution with fraps to my Vertex 3.
That's pretty awesome. -
My 8170 is enroute from Baldwin Pk, Ca. and will be in Dixie this Weds.

I ordered an Alienware M17x R3 on 3/18 and was given a delivery date of 4/13. Yesterday, I got an email pushing it to 5/11. Today I called Dell and cancelled. The rep did not even try to make an excuse or offer me a discount to keep the order in place. Dell's customer service has just gone to hell. It is crazy asking a customer to wait 1+ months for a $2.5K computer and then 4 days before delivery delaying by another month. Several other folks reported similar situation. It is also crazy as another set of people with similar order dates are receiving their units on time. Seems like some customers just get randomly screwed.
In any case, I ordered an 8170-S1 from Xoticpc today. I hope to get it before 5/11 ;-)
Specs are:
CPU: 2820, GPU: 6970, screen: 90%, wifi: 6300, everything else stock
I spoke with J.P. at Xoticpc and he was very nice and helpful.

What sort of temps under load are people getting with the NP8170 GTX 485M?
@ irablumberg
Soon you will thank Dell for their atrocious customer service because when that laptop arrives, you will absolutely love it!
I can honestly say that I have never used a better laptop. -

Well... damn. My M860TU's LCD finally gave out. I put that thing through so much hell, it's a miracle that it lasted 2 years. The screen was hanging half way off, from being dropped so violently.
So I'm stuck typing on a crappy tablet for the next 2 or 3 weeks, unless the TV is free for me to hook up the ole M86 via HDMI.
Hopefully the build times pick up, and I get my NP8170 sooner than expected. On the bright side, my eCheck cleared today. -
Finally, after waiting 2 1/2 months, I hit phase 4 today! Im expecting the laptop to arrive Wednesday night.

Tomorrow I Get Mine!

In addition to the stock stuff, I am installing a Crucial C300 256GB SSD (finally, a SATA III interface ;-), and a 750GB Seagate drive. I plan to give the stock 2 500GB drives to my family members to upgrade their notebooks.
I am also hoping the 90% screen lives up to its reputation. I currently have an ASUS G73jh and that screen, while limited on color gamut, is overall quite nice and I would be disappointed if the new screen is a step down.

Do you reapply the thermal paste ? -
-
My GPU temps
when i play counter strike source for a few hours, my temps go to 68 ° c.
while playing crysis 2 the temps go up to 90 ° c, but this is only a few seconds once the fans go a level higher the temps go back to 84°c.
while running 3DMark Vantage and 3d mark 2006, the GPU temp go to 78 ° c.
I use AS 5 thermal paste on my GTX 485 m.
CPU temps never goes above 70 ° "prime 95" -
My GTX 485M temps during GTA IV hit around 80C, Crysis is around 84C but some other games can stay as low as 75C. It all depends on how intensive a game is. My GPU idles at 38-40C and my CPU temps never seem to go beyond 72-75C.
-
If some are maxing at 75, then everyone should.
Seems thermal compound applications are inconsistent. -
call me one high end graphics card that stays below 75 ° c !!!!!
even with a desktop you're soon up to 80 ° c, in my desktop I always overlockt my vga card and I can say temps below 95 ° C for modern graphics cards are fine!
75 ° C is nice, but 85 ° is certainly no problem.
i overclockt my GTX 485 "Core 625 MHz" run furemark for 15 temp 91 ° which is quite ok.
I have to pass the 20 000 score in 3dmark 2006 -
-
Was this temp measured in game? -
I guess I'll see it for myself, when mine comes. I not sure I can accept 90C as normal operating temps.
I went with the default paste, because I have my own ICD7. -
Just re-ordered as neither 470 or 485 was available and am tired of waiting so went for the 6970. Now have 20 dollars credit. Was thinking of going for the 500g hybrid HDD instead of the 750g secondary drive. Primary is 120g Intel 510 ssd. it will be just used for docs and games. Any thoughts would be appreciated as i thought several threads with freezes (that have been fixed I think) were due to the 500g hybrid seagate. or else ill get it refunded if u think its not worth it. Thanks
Phase II: NP8170 - glossy 90% - i7-2820qm - 6970m - 16g Ram - 120g 510m + 750g HDD -
So does anyone have concerns that this 90% Gamut LCD only has a 1 year warranty? Doesn't it seem weird that all of the resellers are not offering this screen?
-
To those that went with the 90% glossy screen, how are the vertical viewing angles? Are you happy with your upgrade?
-
Wow. Just got a call from Xotic, saying Sager has already built my machine, so it's on the way to them for the screen installation.
I'll have it way sooner than was anticipated. -

Hi, Im new here. First, sorry for my english, I'm Polish. I have a question for you, I ordered a laptop SAGER P8170 | i7-2630QM | 6970M | 4GB RAM | 320GB HDD the same as Kevin_Jack2.0, in particular, I have questions for you Kevin but also to others who could answer it:
1. Is the supplied power stand overclocking the card?
2. Is it possible to overclock this card to the level of the desktop HD 6850 without any problems with the temperature? (with IC Diamond on it)
3. If it was an opportunity I would like to know how many frames can accomplish in the lowest FullHD detail in Battlefield Bad Company 2
4. I got a solid state disk 60GB OCZ Vertex 2 with another laptop, what is the difficulty in fitting in the Clevo?
Thanks in advance for your reply -
-
Edit: Never mind I just heard from Donald at powernotebooks that my laptop is set to ship today or tomorrow. He must have put in the order even though I still had to send in the money for the 6970. I originally ordered an np8130 on jan 28, then I switched to the np8170 during the recall and then I put the order on hold to wait for the 6970. Needless to say I am very excited to get the laptop. -
-
I just placed my order with Mythlogic for a Nyx 1711 (P170HM chassis). The staff has been awesome so far and I can't wait for this machine to be built. The specs are as follows:
CPU: Intel i7 2820QM
RAM: 16GB Kingston HyperX DDR-1600
GPU: nVidia 485m
HD1: Intel 510 12GB SSD
HD2: 750GB 7200 RPM
Screen: Matte
DVD: BD ROM
Overall I'm excited. Trying to remain busy at work and what not over the next couple of weeks and we'll see how it goes. Either way I'm stoked. -
Well i finally tested every game i own on the GTX 485m, here's the vids for those interested in it's game performance...
YouTube - Crysis - Maxed Out - GTX 485m - Sager NP8170 Laptop
YouTube - Crysis Warhead - GTX 485m - Mostly Very High Settings
YouTube - Crysis 2 - GTX 485m - Extreme Settings
YouTube - Batman Arkham Asylum - Maxed Out + High PhysX - GTX 485m - Sager NP8170 Laptop
YouTube - FarCry - Maxed Out - GTX 485m - Sager NP8170 Laptop
YouTube - DOOM 3 - GTX 485m - Ultra Settings
I will most likely do a video review of the laptop next week when i have a camera to use. -
75 - 80C during (GTA IV) gaming instead of the 90C. My manual does not mention the FN+1 keys but I noticed it mentioned here. -
Good to see the 485m coping well with all of these on high settings. Cant wait till tomorrow! -
Much appreciated. Enjoy your new laptop. -
-
One quick question: Is there a noticeable difference between running Crysis at 1920 X 1080 VS 1650 X 1080 or 1600 X 900?
-
Anyways, I hope you enjoy your machine. -
As far as visual difference. The jump from 900p to 1080p in Crysis is very minor imo, since the Antialiasing used in crysis doesn't affect the foliage at all no matter what res you use the trees and such will look jaggy. I just use 900p for the best balance of visuals vs framerate.
Crysis 2 however is very easy to run, i get 60 fps on extreme in 720p, and a smooth 30 fps at 1080p.
