Same here...I'm guessing it's the screen replacement that is taking so long. =/

Well its a different plug. Its got 4 prongs, kind of like an S video cable, but is male instead of female. Also the brick is freakin huge. I was not expecting that. The cable is kind of short though, which isnt a huge problem since you can always get a bigger one. So, it seems pretty solid, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere and it won't come out easily.

I'm becoming a broken record with this chart.

30fps @ Very High is not a problem, if you turn the AA off.

Don't trust anything NBC says, other than the GPU specs. Tom's is the bible, in comparison.

Excellent!! I placed my order on March 3rd and just got an email it shipped today!!!! The only thing that sucked was that I had to scramble this morning and upgrade to overnight shipping because I will be away all next week and noone would be here to sign for it. Oh well, I guess I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. After all, I'll have it tomorrow now.

lol, no I am fortunate to have a Clevo dealer here in Belgium, not far from where I live "Bytesatwork.be"
Apparently this shop has a good distributor of Clevo that can quickly deliver.
The service has been great so far, always a quick response to my questions.

Good for you!! I was going to go for a europeean supplier of Clevo but went with US as in including adding VAT (20% in Italy) + the delivery charges 390 USD but considering the exchange rate i will save a big chunk of change. I hope i didn't make a mistake and regret if I have hassles in customs. Hope the extra wait for shipping is worth it. I usually travel to the US, un-package and bring it as carry on, but this time im not travelling often so wont go that route. Hope to get mine soon, cant wait. Worried about the temps and the compound issue. Wasted some time re-ordering to a 750g hdd due to the 500g hybrid drive worried about the freezing issues. Its ridiculous how much time I wasted, i'm rarely this indecisive. It will be a weight off the shoulders once I get it but I guess this phase is part of the whole experience and the anticipation is quite exciting.

They don't charge you till its ready to build. B/c they always ask to verify the order one more time right before they begin building the laptop.

I am sad faced cause I ordered this thing like Jan 7th haha

Took me little over 2 weeks to get mine.
    In the Netherlands from xnotebooks.nl
Problem was not the b3 revesion of the chipset but the 2720qm cpu.

My first laptop i actualy pay'd money for and i am not sorry i pay'd 2100,- for it neither.
And OMG i just love that fingerprint scanner, i want one on my desktop rig's to......

B.T.W. dont use Mushkin Enhanced in the P170HM it dont work, stick with Kingston, Hynix

Got mine, finally.. DevilTech Fragbook DTX.

    17.3"
    i7-2720QM
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3
    485M 2GB
    128gb SSD
    etc etc.

BUT, almost immediately I noticed massive bleeding in the screen. At least, that is how I see it. Am I exaggerating? It's not even in the corners, but the bottom of the screen is like twice as bright as the top.

What do you guys think? What should I do? I'll add a photograph.

    http://i54.tinypic.com/jubpmu.jpg

;( It seems pretty bad to me. It's very noticable in games aswell.

Well, same here. LG LP173WF1-TLC1 .. Could you take a pic?

But is it really the screen and not the backlight? It looks as if it's lit up far too brightly from the bottom. It all looks very washed out at the bottom of the screen, very noticable in games.

What screens are compatible with it? Where can you get them? (Europe here)

    Thanks

Well, I'm certainly not liking it. But you're saying my screen is an exception? So sending it back and asking for them to fix it would help? Or will I just get it back with the same problem?

my order was stalled for 3 days because of a 9$ balance difference from wire transfer to actual amount after shipping on a $3183 order!!!!! FFS!! every minute counts!!! Procedures!!! They waived the balance i believe and are going forward now. How freaking painful.

Is this your first LED display? Unfortunately, that's just what they look like. :( They have a very narrow viewing angle where the screen looks (almost) evenly-lit....otherwise, part of the screen usually looks washed-out, as you put it. My first experience with LEDs was on an HP laptop I tried for a couple weeks last fall, and I thought something was wrong with it. (I called HP and they said "it's normal and we find most customers really like it." Uh-huh.) But I went and looked at other models and brands, and they're all like that. I've been using one for about five months now (on a different laptop), and I'm sorta used to it. But I still much prefer the old-style LCDs.

PS: Playing around with the brightness and contrast can help a lot.....

Yes, it's my first LED (laptop) display. I hear a lot of people are unhappy about the standard LG screen, though? So certainly it's not just me. Some order it with another screen with larger gamut (I had no options). Others replace it with another screen, for instance the 'B173HW01 V.4'.

Can someone with knowledge of the two comment? Is the B173HW01 V.4 better?

Hello everyone! This is my first post here.

A lot of your discussions helped me decided on getting a NP8170/P170HM so thank you.

I just received my ship notification from Malibal today 25 March! I am very excited. I ordered my system on 14 March.

I just wanted people to know that Malibal doesn’t appear to be backed up.

Note: If you get a laptop from Malibal it will say Malibal on it instead of Sager otherwise it’s the same. I personally like the name Malibal better anyway.

I am looking forward to keep reading up your forum posts so keep the good info coming.

    BTW I got a I7-2720QM, 485GTX, 8G RAM, 120G (510) SSD, 500G HD, Blu Ray

Howdy all, long time reader, first time poster. So I recently ordered the 8170-S1 and I am SOOOOO excited. I'm upgrading from my Asus G72. I need a portable gaming rig and I think this fits my need perfectly. Can't wait until it arrives. Four questions

    1) What is the difference between the 8170 & the 8170-S1?
    2) How many phases does an Xotic order go through?
    3) I'm getting mine with no OS, as I can get a student discount on the OS. Does the drivers disk contain the latest drivers or should I pre-download them before my new baby gets here?
    4) What is the screen model number? Can't find this anywhere.

I bought the S1 figuring that it was just a minor model upgrade. I am currently in Phase 2 for my order (since Tuesday). Want to plan out what days I can take off from work to play around with my new toy :)

    Thanks
    Jason Cliche

S1 gives you a discount because it has more stuff preconfigured for it.
XoticPC goes through 4 phases, one being the custom modify one, so it will skip this one if you don't need them to custom modify anything.
It does come with a disc, but i downloaded them.
    4) not sure, anyone?

Hello, today I picked up my Clevo from www.bytesatwork.be! " i must say the service from the owner Dave is GREAT!"
i tell you this laptop is a BEAST!
I feared the fan noise, this laptop is not silent but the sound is certainly not annoying my evga motherboard in my desktop sounds louder :)

The first thing I did is a fresh windows installe "W7 ultimate 64bit sp1" afther that i updated the drivers.

I have a problem, THX software can not find my sound card, anyone has this problem?
My speakers do work normally even in 5.1

I've also been running some benchmarks, with very good results.
both in terms of score, from the CPU and GPU temps.

CPU 10 min after Prime95 does not exceed 68 °, 36 ° idl "are these good temps?"
    GPU at 3dmark 11 max 80 °, 72 ° during crysis 2, 38 ° idl
    Cooling paste: Artic silver 5

By the way I play Crysis 2 on Hardcore "is the highest setting?" and everything runs smoothly at 1080p !!!!!

here are some screenshots from 3d mark

BOLDED: I'm glad to hear this! I can't wait to see the screen myself.

It seems that this screen it's totally f***ed up, use AIDA64 and paste here model of this display ok ? I also received P170HM with very bad screen it was from mySN and model was LG Display LP173WF1-TLC1 I replaced it myself for AU Optronics B173HW01 V.5 and its much much more better. Do you experienced also any random freeze yet ? Becouse I'm fighting with this issue still :/

So ive been messing around with some games. SC2 on all ultra settings @ 1080p res, there is no lag at all. High temp was 68C on 1 core and 64C on the others. Which too me isnt that hot. My old laptop would get to like 99C lol (i know pushing it). But the laptop itself never feels hot.
