Do we know when the 6970 will be out? I didnt really want to way past April. I was wondering if I preordered it and then the 6970 came out if I could change it. I am thinking of going w/ xotic pc right now.

This is what I think I am going to go with...for 1890. I am thinking this is the best bang for my buck to keep it under 1900 (wife may kill me otherwise). This is kind of my last spending for a couple years or so as we have our 2nd kid on the way and now need a house.

Ya, you can change your order anytime within the period before your model goes into production and not lose your spot in the queue. Just make sure that all payments are squared away otherwise it could delay production/shipping

My wife said to get what I want now and I think I am cut off after this purchase lol so I think the 485 m will work out. I hope the 6gb of RAM will suffice for a while.
-
The RAM is easy to change. So if you think its not sufficient, just order a 4GB stick and put it in. Not that expensive if you wait a bit between purchases.
-
Thats probably the best for me anyway. I figured the RAM and another hard drive down the road were fairly cheap to get and install.

There are rumors that nvidia will release the GTX560m and GTX570m in March.
The GTX560 will be almost equal to the GTX460 with 192 bit memory and 192 Cudacores.
The GTX570 will be upgraded to 336 Cudacores and 192bits memory. -
When in march are we talking about here? Also, does what you're saying mean than 460m = 560m, or 460m > 560m, or 460m < 560m. As I see right now, the 460m has 192 cores with 192 bit already. So will Nvidia be trying to pull their shenanigans with their numbering again?
-
The only Rumors worth listening to is the album by Fleetwood Mac.
-
-
1) No idea who Fleetwood Mac is.
2) Honestly, if it weren't for the simple layouts of wikipedia tables, nvidia and amd naming schemes would be worse for me. Atleast AMD gave a product with lower numbers replacing the same performance and added an extra tier of options. Nvidia is just plain being greedy.
3) Even the slightest chance that the 460m would be replaced with a 560m ( of equal or greater performance) is making me start doubting some things. If it weren't for this long wait between purchase and delivery (nobody's fault except some guy at intel), I wouldn't be second guessing everything that was happening in between. -
I'd imagine 5xx to be the next generation of mobile GPUs, not just a simple refresh of existing hardware. -
The 5xx has been out since Jan.
Comparison of Nvidia graphics processing units - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This table clearly states the 500m series as being marginally better (up until the 555m). Another thing is that Nvidia gave higher number allocations to products that previously had lower numbers in the 400m series. I don't have any concrete information on anything above the 555m. -
-
In all probability, these purported chips will not be faster than the 485m. Definitely not the 560m with its 192 CUDA cores.
-
All I care about is prices. If what DGDXGDG's source said long ago turns out to be true, the purpose of GTX 500M is only to lower power consumption and price.
As someone with an preference for Nvidia, GTX 570M interest me greatly. If the price/performance is right, and it's cheaper and faster than the 470M, it will be a good stop gap to go with until the 28nm cards come out.
i'm actually kinda glad this recall has stalled my purchase. between 6970m and 500m, at least I now have an excuse to wait for the smoke to clear. -
Yeah the 570m may be the competition for the 6970m. There's a significant gap in performance and cost between the 470m and the 485m that nVidia needs to fill.
-
I finally did it. I made my decision and I am happy with it. Mostly I am glad that my wife allowed me to do this before our second kid. It should definitely free up some mobility of being tied down to a desktop. It looks like I now get to play the waiting game as well. This is what I ordered:
Sager NP8170
- 17.3" FHD 16:9 "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Glossy Screen (1920x1080)-
- 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM, 2.0-2.8GHz, (32nm, 6MB L3 cache)

- Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader (MS/MS Pro/MS Duo/MS Pro Duo/SD/Mini-SD/MMC/RS)
- Intel® Advanced-N 6230 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module + Bluetooth -
Congrats on your second kid! I bought a laptop before our second kid as well, lol. It was great though. Nights I opted to stay up with the baby I just gamed all night, lol.
And congrats on your machine too, I don't think you'll be disappointed. -
I am pretty excited. This is better than my desktop so I can't wait to play dirt3, nfs shift 2 and some of the other games coming out. I had to retire from MMO's due to the time commitment so I doubt I play one of those.
We are pretty excited about the 2nd kid. Luckily this time I will be out of grad school so it will be nice. I cant wait to graduate in June (I am sick of college). -
I've found this table on the net that gives an idea of what we can expect from the new series GTX5XX, it is not much but it's something
Can anyone here read Chinese?

Man, damn. Now my interest is peaked.
Hopefully this March talk isn't just hot air. I need to get my order filled before the 90% gamut screen goes out of stock, but news of new GPUs always gets me excited. The 580M is supposed to be cheaper than the 485M, and also slightly less power hunger.
There's no way the release them this early, right? -
My wife said this will help me learn to be patient...I feel like Veruca Salt "I want it now"
-
-
The numbers on the right are frame rates from some game benchmarks.
I think MSI is gonne launch the GT780 notebook next month so benchmarks of the GTX560will soon follow.
update.
I have just received news from a Clevo distributor, woh says the current gtx470 is getting difficult to obtain. The new series nvidia cards will be shipped within 4-5 weeks.
"the waiting game continues" or maybe I should just decide and go for the gtx470 -
-
I don't know.. seeing as how you already have your machine, and that even the 6970M will now cost you another $500 plus, you might as well have just spent the extra $295 for the GTX 485M in the first place. Now you spend $500 on something slower, or close to $700 on something marginally faster.
-
-
-
Also, from the looks of it the 580m will be better than the 485m, but this is based off a sheet that I can't even read and only look at numbers. -
560M will be like a slightly faster, cheaper 460M.
The 570M is the wildcard. If it's actually cheaper than the 470M, then it's cheaper than the 6970M. Even at a speculated 10% faster than the 470M, it can take the price/performance crown.
We might as well slow down with the speculation though; we need way more info on this, before we start speculating that Clevo's to refresh the P170HM's 400M line, already.
Someone make a separate thread. -
I am pretty pleased w/ my purchase. I think the 485 will handle my needs for quite some time. I just dont know how I am going to survive while waiting for it lol. This could be tough.

I was informed by PCTorque that if XOTICPC installs the matte finish LCD, it will void the warranty. Does anybody know if this is true?
-
From PCTorque
"Thanks for contacting PC Torque! The matte screen is not available with this model and please be advised that if you purchase from a Sager reseller who does offer the Matte screen option it will VOID YOUR WARRANTY as per Sager policy. You may confirm this with Sager if you like, which is why Sager does not offer the matte screen option either. " -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Shame on them for telling you that...it will not void your warranty.
The screen itself will be warranted through whoever installs it, but the rest of your laptop will still be under warranty from Sager. -
I think what they were saying is that if a third party replaces the screen, then Sager will not provide warranty for the replacement screen - which is obviously true.

Hi, I have a question about P170HM I found review of this model on notebookjournal.de Schenker Notebook XMG P701 Notebook im Test Mehr als nur Desktop-Replacement auf notebookjournal.de and Schenker Notebooks offers only this LCD screen (HANNSTAR HSD173PUW1) but brightness is very pure. Right now i'm using Sony Vaio FW41M/H and on this machine i have average of brightness at 232.1 cd/m² and on HSD173PUW1 only is 131 cd/m² Contrast and viewing angles are superb, only this brightness is the problem. DevilTech offer AUO159D (B173HW01 V5) LCD display and it have much better brightness level (according to this review: Review Deviltech Fragbook DTX (Clevo P170HM) Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews) Any one knows which LCD screen will be better? I don't have possibility to choose Ultra Bright LED Glossy Screen w/ 90% NTSC Color Gamut. I'm planning to make order in mySN ( Schenker Notebooks - Xtreme Mobile Gaming | mySN.de) or DevilTech ( www.deviltech.de).
-
-
That's the thing with Sager notebooks. They will warrant the notebook regardless of what components you install / replace, only not those that were replaced.
-
That is really good news. It sounds like they are a great company.I am pretty excited as this will be my first one.
-
I pulled the trigger! It was between this and a Alienware R3. In the end I decided on this because of the options and the clean look. Only thing I will miss is the back light keyboard. Thanks to Josh at Mythlogic. Got a fair deal and has answered all my questions.

Its about a program / driver level interface that could possibly allow use of the intel built in GPU. If it somehow could be made to work on this laptop, could be really great for transcoding using Quicksync -

I personally think that this will be rather a gt560 "128 bits" -
Notebookcheck questions whether that pre-sample is really the GTX 560M. I'll wait and see.
