You are correct, their plan to release them changed. On Monday Sager Engineering said they wouldn't start releasing until Thursday. It is good to see they updated their shipping schedule yesterday. :) Some of our first customers have tracking #'s in their inbox today. :D :D

Dang, so maybe because of the recall this is too early to ask in here, but are there any known issues with the 8150?

In particular I'm worried about the audio quality through the headphone jack. I had to return a Dell M15x last year because it crackled and hissed through the jack. Was looking at HP Envy, etc. but there was a report of one of those doing it too.

Anyway Oldstyle recommended an 8150 (or 5160) based on what I want...

And I can't believe the specs! LED backlighting + Sandy Bridge quad core + a Geforce GTX 485 in a 15" system?!? That's basically exactly what I want...although isn't cooling a problem with a GTX 485 in a 15" system? A bit worried about that too...I want to to last and be 100% stable (I won't be overclocking at ALL, though would probably bump up to the 2.2GHZ quad, don't think I'd get faster than that though).

The only thing on paper I don't like about this is the 1080p screen...at 15" I'd prefer 720pish or at most slightly above that. Prefer not to resort to DPI tricks to make it usable...plus then every day I'd have to change that back and forth at work on my external monitor, I guess.

I guess I'd buy from XoticPC since I guess people like them? Never done that nor had a Sager before, so this seems scary LOL...but dang, <$2500 for a 15" Sandy Bridge i7 + the GPU I want if I could have any GPU + Blu Ray + LED? Daaaaaang....

Phase 3 for Xotic is custom paint, I believe. So they would have to receive it from Sager first, then go to phase 3. I don't think they started shipping till last night/today for the very first batch.

Wolf I am pretty sure you can get lower than 1080p on an 8150 (though you might have to special request it), because lower res screens are available on the 8130. But dude, just go for the 17 inch, and reduce both your worries about heat and about screen resolution.

My only issue with 17" is a stupid one...I don't care about carrying it, that doesn't seem like a big deal, I just can't fit a mouse and the notebook on my TV table at the same time LOL. I know that sounds stupid, but I'd prefer to not have to rearrange stuff somehow :-/

The 8170 is roughly $200 more if config'd to about the same as the 8150. The 8170 is huge for the same keyboard as the 8150 and for me I have to format external drives to FAT32 anyway so more than 1 drive is a waste for me so on the desk it doesn't matter but try lugging a big 17" through airport security and it's a real hassle. Some airlines weigh your carry on's and the 8170 with the power brick and mouse is really up there in weight. The mouse weighs squat but I like a flat case because airlines allow a laptop AND a carry on. If you use a backpack for your laptop you are screwed out of a carry on!
Not good if you have camera equipment to lug on as well.

I just had another thought...hasn't the GTX 485 been on the market officially for a few months? Why isn't it supported in the current driver?

Hopefully that's coming with the next driver...

I just saw too in XoticPC's review of either the 8150 or 8130 they mentioned that Sager and Asus had had issues with Nvidia driver support compared to other brands?

The only systems Nvidia says they can't support are Sony ones except for the F series (which they do support), so that surprised me. Don't know if it's true, but you'd think XoticPC would know something like that (?)

I think you might have misunderstood something. ATI is the one that tends to have not as good support as nVIDIA.

ATi drivers are refreshed once per month.

nVidia, more random but more frequent, and performance boost due to drivers have been greater on the green side than on the red.

After getting Fed up with all the mis-information about 3D, and not being able to get an answer from a reseller. I called Sager Tech support directly. They said the 460m and the 485m will both support 3D if you use an external monitor and the Nvidia 3D kit.

The price of the M17 R3 seems to have dropped and has 3D already, I know it's a gimmick but HDMI input is sweet. Dell is way overpriced for warranty tho.

Gonna order one of them today

The m17x is a 17 where the 8150 is a 15. Also the m17x is twice the weight of the 8150 which is nuts.

Stoneware still shows the m15x as "The most powerful 15" laptop" which is very dart from true, lol, still has first gen i7 and the highest end gpu is the GTX460m which is an upgrade, not the default. Though the machine does look cool and should be a study laptop.

Yeah, that's why I was confused (and why I prefer Nvidia). I *think* it was in the video review for the 8130 but it could have been the 8150 since I watched all three, and it SEEMED like it was saying the GTX 460 on the Asus and Sager notebooks wasn't getting supported right by Nvidia's driver releases, while it was on other brands. (Plus it's weird that Nvidia doesn't even list the GTX 485 as supported in their current driver release.)

You probably won't see this and might not know, but for the heck of it...any idea if the audio is clean through the headphone jack on the 8130 or 8150? I'm trying to find something with no static/hissing on the headphone jack, as it seems to be a widespread problem with Dell's M15x.

Are you sure about that? That would make it 4.5lbs or so.

The 8150 sure looks small though! It's why it's hard to believe it can cool...well frankly a GTX 460, let alone 2x that with a GTX 485!

My notebook's failing video RAM caused yet another crash this morning, so...

With battery the M17x is listed as 11.68 lbs, that is heavy! The 8150 with battery is listed as 6.83 lbs.

It isn't half, but it is a big difference. The 8150 being 58.48% of the M17x's weight.

The listing is apparently wrong, left over from the M17x-R2. The R3 is several pounds lighter, from people who have weighed it.

I don't know about a 3D panel in the laptop itself. I specifically asked about an External Monitor using Nvidia's 3D kit (not cheap)
You use the dual DVI ports to plug into a 3D capable monitor.
Sager said if 3D doesn't work I can always return the laptop under their policy.

The Sager tech wasn't big on 3D, felt it was a gimmick (true) and overpriced (also true)
Ever notice how there aren't too many external monitors with glossy screens. ;)

From speaking to Nvidia tech support it does seem like they don't support drivers very well on Sager. I think Dell pays them for the drivers or something. The 8170 and AW R3 use the same video card yet they show no support for the 460m or 470m on their website, and the techs at Nvidia are somewhat less than helpful about issues for items not listed on their website.

    From Nvidia's website:
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL

It lists the GTX 460 as supported (though not the 485?!?), with the only exceptions being:

    So....I'm still confused.

Obviously driver support is super important.

They like it when you're confused that's why they change models numbers all the time. :p The 485 is pretty new so it might be a while. Look how long the 460M has been out and it just made the list as it wasn't on it 2 weeks ago. Without the drivers lots of stuff won't work.

Thanks for the list, very helpful to have the newest one.

The driver thing is pretty rediculous. This is the biggest complaint my buddy had about his Sager and I really don't want driver headaches. The thing is, the GTX485m is nVidia's flagship mobile card, you'd think they'd want to keep it up. Maybe if enough of us complain to nVidia we will actually get support.

It is around 13650 with no overclocking of the video card. With MSI Afterburner I've gotten a stable OC on my 460M at 800/1600/1480 with hours & hours of gaming temps never over 74C and 3Dmark06 caps out around 16550 on my 8150-S1.
