I'm seeing pretty big price vistas when comparing Mythlogic to Xotic. Especially if you factor in Xotic's S1 configuration:

$2169 versus $2324.05 for i7 2720, GTX 485M, no optical, single 750GB 7200RPM, additional AC adapter. It'd be nice to go Midwest and small...but not that nice! I am hoping they will price match.

What is the question? I have been running 2x4GB 1600 ram and it works just fine, although it doesn't run at the full rated 1600 b/c of the processor. I have an order in for another 2x4 for 16gb total as well.

This is the question right here. Please explain this statement. I've heard about 3 different reasons why the RAM won't work in some way or another and I'd like some amplifying info as to why it won't run at full rated 1600. Also, what does it actually run at (speed/latency timings)? Why would you want it if it doesn't run at advertised speed?

People are also asking questions b/c the resellers are telling us it won't work with more than 2 DIMMS, as stated in the previous posts in the thread.

    So, those are the questions.

Did you take out the price of Windows 7 when you compared the two?

That seems to be a bit more than my config (prices have gone up a bit though) but I think we have almost the same config price wise...

M17x r3 uses HM67 as well as P170HM. Those chipsets will have XTU enabled in BIOSes. Thus you can turn on XMP. XMP is just a setup package to overclock your RAMs. Without that you could still reach 1600MHz and other labeled parameters, as long as they are supported.

exactly. there is a manual circulating on the forums stating if you are using ddr3-1600, then these laptops only support up to 2x2gb. Say this is true, apparently you'll get downclocked if use more than that amount. However I haven't seen any particular bench or feedback on this yet.

Yeah, I'm trying to locate that manual so that I'll know for sure. If so, I'll just return the memory before the laptop gets here. I have a feeling it could be unsubstantiated so I want to figure out where the info is coming from.

I have the manual which looks legit. but really, no one ever confirmed that. I was kind hoping for some guinea pigs...
Or maybe I'll be the guinea pig after 6970m comes out.

    hi all,
question for owner who has P150HM on hands :

    1. is it OK to use it on your lap ? i mean, is it safe to use it while you are on your bed to do light tasks (browsing, emailing, etc) without any pad on underneath ? or is it not recommended ? i tried to find some high res picture with / around it fans to get a better illustration but still don't find any.

    2. how aboutl those web news fonts on native res 1920x1080 ? do you guys feel comfortable to read stuff on the internet (i.e : reading post / threads here on NBR at normal reading distance) ? my local best buy doesn't have any laptop with 15.6 inch display FHD as comparison.

    thanks,

This depends on personal preference and on how good your eyes are. It is difficult to read say if you're leaning back on your chair, but you can always zoom in if you want to do that.

If you're not leaning back and looking from a normal distance then there should be no problem (assuming you're not far-sighted or something)

Yeah around the same here! Though zooming into large battles it does dip below 20's depending on what sort of units your looking at. STILL though this runs MUCH smoother than Empire! Now I am anxious to try it out on the real beast in my room, my desktop :p

hey did anyone download BioWare | Dragon Age II DEMO ??

Anyone know the fps on the 460m and 485m with high and 1920x1080 res?
Can you guys check the battery to see how much time it will give while playing the game? (Would be nice to see such a comparison) I love playing solo-RPGs on vacation \ long drives.

Well, although I don't have my Clevo on hand yet, I will say my current laptop is built similarly in terms of vents and size. I have used it on my lap numerous times, even for heavy gaming. I will say that I strategically placed it so the vents were still at least a little clear, which I would suggest at the least. I hope this helps.

The temps will drop when you use it on your lap, as long as the airintake is free, compared to having it on a table. When you use it on your bed and covering all the intake underneath it will raise the temps. I guess it should be ok as long as you dont game or do anything that require some extra power, but monitor your temps. You should always monitor your temps.

Well, it's not a very demanding game as it has been neutered for the sake of console compatibility. I ran it maxed out on my Alienware M17 at 1980x1200 without any hesitation in game play. Granted that was not DirectX 11, so perhaps that is one difference. I would guess either GPU will do just fine, but without question the 485m will breeze through it.

You should never use your laptop where it would be directly on the bed, carpet, or anywhere else where it will be pulling not only air, but lint, into the cooling system. This will clog up the cooling system quickly, and you will have to clean it out very often.

You should always have it on a hard surface, like a TV Tray or Lap Tray so that it gets plenty of air flow, and is not pulling in lint from whatever surface you have it on.

When on your lap, be aware of where the intakes are and be careful not to block them.

Not only lint, but just blocking airflow in general is not good. Temps go up quickly.

The vents are positioned quite awkwardly to use in one's lap though.

I noticed it hard to balance the laptop on my lap without blocking the vents.

Hey, I've never actually had a computer totally die on me (that wasn't entirely my fault). I only broke some mosfets off that 8800 GTX once ok! (and had to trash a $380 board).

In all seriousness, I do keep the place around 75F. Cooler than that and my bill skyrockets. It's 10x worse to heat the place, so winter for me and the fiance was lots of blankets. (Thankfully, unlike you, I don't have to appease the missus when I buy myself toys. Although as far as she knows I'm only spending $1500. no one had better tell her otherwise!).

Coincidentally, anyone want to buy a Dell XPS m1530? It's practically brand new now that I had all the guts replaced!

Man, I really want that 8150 now, I've had this forum open in on my second screen at work since the beginning of this month.

Does anyone know where I can buy a hard drive caddy, I remember reading it in the owners lounge but I don't remember how long ago I saw it. I'm just seeing if it is more economical to buy the optical drive initially and then the hdd caddy outright or vice verse.

Does the 8150 glossy have the same screen as the 8690? I loved the brightness and crispness of my 8690's screen. I always thought the 8150 had the same screen , but i just saw the anandtech review of the 8170 and they rated the screen way below the 8690's screen ( im assuming of course that the 8150/8170 share the same screen type).
    Anyone care to enliten me?
