Mythlogic's website has a live chat function where you can talk with someone to get a quote down where you need it. Their website, the customization options and the friendliness of their rep is what sold me.

I found out later that you can get just about anything that you want in your laptop through special order from the other resellers, but being new to the game of buying Clevo, I went with the one that was right in my face as far as options went.

Yeah, customization options are awesome for mythlogic.

That's why I can't rate the two, and I didn't even buy mine from mythlogic!

Prices are quite high though.. I was on a pretty tight budget, and I really liked how Larry was very helpful and always smiled, so I went for LPC-digital.

Hi, our base models should be the same as XoticPc. We have a low price guarantee, though - so that's why there might be a difference in price. Please feel free to PM us if you need anything. :)

I just saw the lotus review of nbr. Chaz described the laptop as chocolate brown in color. Is this the color for all p150hm's or is it a malibal exclusive?
    I kinda like it!

Say what are the chances of this laptop coming out with a backlit keyboard version in the near future? Reasonable or not likely? This is the only thing missing from this great laptop.

Never. Welcome to bleeding edge video card technology in laptops. Or when HD 6970M comes out at $200 less for similar performance. But I doubt nVidia will drop their pricing.

it will come down eventually as any other merchandise in the market does. the question is when.

6970 does not have a similar performance, marginally lower.

It definitely looks grey. However the one in the review looks like it has a tinge of brown. Iirc the article describes it as somewhere between charcoal and coffee brown

It won't drop probably until nVidia releases it's next power GPU. Even so, 9800m GTX is $500+ and GTX 285m is $500+. So I wouldn't expect the price of the 485m to drop to less than $700 for quite a while.

Based on the benches I've seen, the 6970 is within 10% of the 485m, and in some cases exceeds it. If it's $200-$250 cheaper then it'll be an inexpensive alternative for a minor drop in performance.

Mine seems to be fabulously light..

Coming from an Alienware m17x....... :D

I also pulled out the ODD and put in an empty Optibay caddy for less weight,

and I also put in a SSD.

The laptop feels really really light, and you can hold it with one hand without worries of slipping, as the rubberized coating increases friction and less likely to slip.

Does anyone know how easy it is to switch out the ODD (not just to put a new one in, but I mean on a regular basis. I just bought a 128gb SSD for $125 (more than 50% off). So I'm considering pulling the 500gb drive my 8150 is coming with, putting in the SSD, and keeping the 500gb in one of the ODD caddies to use it. I'll pull it out and switch it for the bluray drive I'm buying when I want to watch movies.

Is this practical? Or will it mean carrying around a screwdriver or something every time I want to get storage?

This isn't true in the world of Nvidia and Intel. They both follow the "introduce speed bumped part at same price, discontinue old parts" model. You'll probably never see a dramatic price drop until they bring out a new, better part. They'll then maybe drop this one $100-200 to move the old stock, stop making them, and continue on with the new part. Intel and Nvidia both do this. Just look at the "last gen" best parts and see where the prices are.

When I bought my GTX 470 for the desktop, I paid $270 each, and this was almost a year ago. They're still $265 each at newegg for the same EVGA version. The debuted a little earlier than that at maybe $320. The new GTX 570 is going for $340 or so. They dropped the prices about $80 for the old stock and introduced the new. And trust me, once newegg starts selling out of the 470's, they'll go deactivated and the 570's will start dropping a little bit because it'll be time for the new parts.

Check out Intel, they do the same thing. The i7 930 I got at the same time was $296. Barring the recall, the i7 2500 is much better performing, and a bit cheaper even. Meanwhile, prices haven't fallen much on the older i7's.

AMD is the one (and only other) chip manufacturer that actually drops prices considerably when new stuff hits the market.

You never get the bleeding edge for cheap. You'll save a tiny amount when the new bleeding edge comes out, but that's it.

i've decided on having them put the odd in an external enclosure with a 128gb ssd as my primary and a 500gb as the secondary. i figure i'll use the HD's more than the ODD. and when i want to watch a movie, i can just plug in the blueray.. idk who you're ordering from since im not looking at your sig, but mythlogic was able to do this for me

I'm just using the caddy, as the sata ii ports are going to go bad if I use them too much,

the weight difference is quite noticeable.. :D

IT is really light without the ODD and just the empty caddy shell.

Yeah, but the vibration from the HDD is right on my left palmrest. I probably wont use thr data HDD even when it is fixed, it just feels more solid without a HDD..

And somewhat lighter I might add!

I have to say that is one sick looking laptop. Congrats on your purchase.

Can you comment on the touchpad sense and tracking? Any issues? I believe it was mentioned in a recent review here that the OP reported poor tracking/touch sense. (I think it may have been related to the coated finish.)

I'm pretty much sold on a Sager for my next purchase and just trying to narrow down to a reseller. Thanks.

Can anyone help me out. I ordered an 8150 with 2x2gb ram from xoticpc.
I wanna add and additional 8gig myself.
Can anyone with 2x2gigs of ram confirm the following: make, model, specs, and no of chips(8 or 16) of the 2gb ram modules used.
    Thanks.

I made some comments, the touchpad is quite unusable...

fingers are hard to track along, as there is too much friction on the pad.

I don't have adequate scales to measure the weight of the light caddy...

They both don't weigh a lot, but the ODD weighs quite a bit more compared to the weight of the caddy.

I was thinking about putting some leftover invisible shield from my phone on the touchpad. It should make it useable (hopefully). I'll maybe post some pics when I get the laptop.

I didn't use the touchpad that much, I have a razer orochi mousse that I bought specifically for this laptop. But during the short period of which I did use the touchpad, it felt alright. I didn't encounter any issues like it suddenly stopped tracking my finger or anything like that.

I have this laptop and built mine (bought barebones) and it is not practical to want to swap on a regular basis. I too had this same thought but you have to take off the bottom panel where the CPU/GPU is and then undo a single screw and pop it out. If you didn't have to remove the screw it wouldn't be a big deal.

What I ended up doing is getting an external SATA to USB slim casing and I put my Blu-ray burner inside it and whenever I want optical media or to burn a disc I just use it instead of trying to swap. You get the full advantages of both worlds minus having one more thing to carry around.

How much weight do i save putting the ODD in an external caddy? I will be carrying it around all the time so that is a useful consideration for me... Usually won't need ODD...

Your typical ODD weighs about 5.5 oz. So by not putting it in the laptop you save about .3 'ish of a pound.

First post here, it's about a problem i have and i would appreciate if anyone could give me a help. My P150HM (Greek version) has some random BSOD during boot. It doesn't happen all the time, it may take 10 restarts to crash, sometimes it crashes every second boot. If i change sata mode from ahci to ide, it crashes every single time! Hard disc is ok (i have tested 2 different discs), RAM is ok, MBR is ok, no virus, format and clean install did nothing, loading default values of bios nothing, system recovery didn't help either.

Nothing loose/bent pin etc? How far into boot does it BSOD?

Since its during boot I assume not a heat related issue right?

It crashes while the 4 colored circles move, just before they form the windows logo. Heat is ok, i can't say if something is loose, apart from that, everything works great, gaming etc

So when it does boot up you experience no problems? benchmarks in line with others people posted? If there was some sort of hardware flaw it should show up somewhat under load... Just trying to think out loud...

No as they empty caddy weighs about the same as the actual optical, so its a wash at that point.

Ok, so 7B is INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, which basically means that windows lost access to the drive. When in AHCI is a hit-or-miss thing, I would still look at the drive as might be an issue, and also reseat the drive. When you change the SATA mode you change the drivers needed, so if you change to IDE mode you have to reinstall windows to get it to work (or make a bunch of registry changes in safemode in AHCI mode then switch to IDE mode), so my suggestion if you can get a different drive or take it back to your reseller as it sounds like the drive isn't quite right.

Good call, I actually might just save the money (ironically) and get one of those Asus external blu-ray drives, they're only $89 at Newegg. I was originally planning on one of the internal drives, but the cheapest one I can find on the egg is $120. If I just get a case for it, it makes more sense for the first option.

    STOP 0x0000007B Blue Screen Errors

Out of all the possible causes listed there its most likely an HDD error since you said you did a fresh new install and it still happened (IE no drivers could have caused it).

Basically the thing your connecting the HDD too is probably faulty. Return it if you can for a replacement but you do know that means your going to have to wait until March, as thats when they start shipping again.

I contacted Malibal about getting an ODD caddy installed in place of my DVD Drive (since I'll be getting an external blu-ray drive for the rare times I need a disk other than watching a movie). They offered to give me the caddy for free if I was getting it without an HDD and with no DVD drive on the order. Just a thought for those of you that have no need for one and want the second hard drive slot.

I'll end up pushing the 500gb 7200rpm stock drive over to that slot and putting my extra 128gb SSD in the original location.

EDIT: And since responding to my ticket, it seems Malibal added this option on their config page! You can configure your 8150 with no ODD and just a caddy now! (no price increase!)
