Sound quality appears to be just fine to my ears. There is lack of bass, but it's crisp and clear on voice and other non-bass instruments. It's loud enough for my kind of use (e.i. games and music)

Just put in an order at LPC-Digital for the NP6370! Upgraded to the matte screen and i7 3610qm processor! Now the wait begins...

Question: I plan on installing an SSD into the second hard drive bay. I need a caddy right? Where can I get one? Do most SSDs that are purchased new come with a caddy in the box? Also, any recommendations on a speedy and reliable SSD for ~$100?

I don't think you need a caddy. You should just be able to plug it into the empty bay.

    Sweet, Thanks!
Can someone suggest a good backpack that is big enough for this laptop?

Any 17" 18" will do, if I were you I would check out the different backpacks in a hardware store or so. Should give you a idea of what you need.

So can anyone who has this notebook say if ThrottleStop helps with Turbo Boost and throttling?
I was very enthusiastic about this model when I first saw the specs, it was exactly what I was looking for (I7 IvyBridge with GTX 660m, 17" and the possibility to customize/upgrade it), but then I saw the issue with Turbo Boost in a review and again I have no idea which laptop to choose...

Throttlestop lets you enable Turbo Boost, so if you use TS then it's a non-issue.

Do you own a NP6370? Because I also wanted to know what temperatures it reaches with TS activated during gaming and under stress test?

Fellow W370ET / NP6370 owners, I have a question... what is your PCH temperature, and (if you have looked) is there a heatsink on your PCH / HM77 chipset?
I've noticed that mine routinely gets up into the 70s and I believe that has been contributing to some of the crashes I've had. You can use HWINFO64 in sensor-only mode to monitor the value. The right side of my laptop feels warm / sometimes HOT to the touch. I thought it was being cause by running RAID, but now one of my SSDs has failed and I'm no longer running RAID while awaiting a warranty replacement on the SSD and the PCH is still HOT.
    Thanks.

I don't own it and I don't know the temps under load with throttlestop, but the notebookcheck review shows that it has very good temps under stress testing with turbo off.

Platform Controller Hub. It takes the place of the Northbridge/Southbridge on newer Intel systems (if you're familiar with that). It interacts with the CPU and controls the hard drives and several other peripherals.
You can see the temp on the HWINFO64 sensors page by scrolling down.

My laptop arrived today, after just over two weeks. I've been running a few tests in Throttlestop (with Furmark and Prime95 running and Prime95 set to the Blend test) to try and figure out what the temperature situation is.

At first, I was working on a flat table probably not more than about six inches from the wall. The computer couldn't maintain max speeds for more than a few seconds before going down to a multiplier of 23 or 12.

Later I was able to work in more ideal conditions...on a laptop cooler a good couple of feet away from the wall. Here I was split about 50/50 between running at full turbo and 23, in about 13-second intervals or so. The highest multiplier that could be maintained seemingly-indefinitely without ever clocking down to base speeds (with the BD PROCHOT setting disabled) was 27 (or 26 with the fan in my stand turned off).

I have no idea if that performance is good or substandard. I also have no idea if it has any bearing on realistic scenarios (I haven't had a chance to really play anything yet).

The odd thing is that I can't figure out what the exact trigger for clocking down is. In my first test it got up to 95 before dropping. Then it seemed like it was losing the turbo at 90. And then, when I was testing progressively lower multipliers, it was still intermittently disabling turbo even at clocks that never took the temperature much above 86. That's all based on Throttleclock's internal temperature measurement, though...maybe it'd look different with another tool.

Well, without Throttlestop, it would never go above 23 period, so it's working in that regard. But CPUs are configured at the hardware level to throttle themselves no matter what if their temperatures get too high, which software can't change. 87 degrees seems way too low for that to be happening, though...I have to wonder if there's some setting that I'm overlooking. I'm not exactly an expert on any of this.

Is there throttling both on the processor and video card that needs to be dealt with, or will using throttlestop to keep the processor from throttling keep it at max performance since it should be well inside thermal designs?

    Hey everyone

Just got my NP6370 yesterday, and so far I'm loving it. I was wondering anyone can help me with the ThrottleStop program? It's my first performance laptop and I'm not quite sure which settings I'm supposed to turn on.

    Thanks

I haven't witnessed any issues with the GPU at all. It runs really cool...low 70s in Furmark and I've yet to see it more than a couple degrees above 60 anywhere else.

I'm still not sure what the deal with the CPU is, though. As I mentioned on the last page, with both Furmark and Prime running, the turbo was shutting off intermittently even using Throttlestop (sometimes even with max temperatures as low as 87 degrees, which is way under the 105 degree limit that Intel supposedly put on the chip). Although since then I tested Throttlestop in an actual game with Skyrim and the at least a couple of cores were always running on turbo without any throttling or the temperature going above the low-to-mid 70s, so it may be a non-issue in realistic scenarios. I'd still like to know what the deal is, though...maybe I'll ask around in the Throttlestop thread.

You pretty much just run the Throttlestop executable, check the box by the "Set Multiplier" option, and hit the up arrow until the field says "turbo". There are a bunch of other settings, but I'm not 100% clear on what they do.

I posted a question about my CPU tests in the Throttlestop forum and the creator suggested that the issue I was seeing might be a result of power consumption rather than temperature (and isn't necessarily anything to worry about outside of an artificial testing environment):

I don't have a voltage meter or any stronger power adapters (nor do I know whether or not it's even safe to use a different adapter than what the computer came with), so there probably isn't much more I can figure out about this on my own.

Ordered mine yesterday from MySN.de I opted for a 500GB seagate drive. I was on the verge of buying a Samsun 830 but at the last moment I changed my mind for good. SSD is the future not the present :D I think I'm going to wait for awhile. Also few hours after ordering Samsung announced it's new line of ssds: Samsung 840.

I got this laptop yesterday, here in the UK. Standard matte screen is fantastic and the performance is excellent...
However, there are 2 major deal breakers for me:

    1) Vibrations and noise? I think this is down to the hard drive (WD500GB SB) it's far too noisy and has excessive vibrations, you can feel it when you rest your palms on the laptop & type. I've tried re-sitting the HD and swapping bays with some improvement but it's still excessive.

    2) Fan noise, always on, always auidble! Would expect some noise when running GPU/CPU stressing tasks, but hearing it constantly during office work is pretty annoying!

Anybody else have these problems? Is there a work around? I've noticed some talk of it on other Clevo threads but I honestly didn't think it would be this bad.

Well, I'm using the Samsung 830 SSD as my primary drive and I don't have that problem. However, I can definitely notice when my Seagate HDD kicks in. Nothing too annoying or crazy vibrations though.

My fan is only on when I'm playing games. Other than that it is silent as a mouse.

I am really loving the performance of the laptop. The 660m has really exceededy expectations. Love the SSD as well. I think the 830 is still the best SSD for the money in terms of speed, storage and reliability. Got mine for $95.

My noise experience is like waleed. I'm rocking SSDs too so no HD noise and my fan is only noticeable when I'm pushing it. The fan is on almost all the time, but it is very quiet at its lowest speed.

Hmm interesting, might have to invest in a SSD then, are you using the 128GB model, just for your programmes then?

Well with the WD HD as my primary, there's a deep hum similar to a transformer. Aswell as a wooshing sound that sounds like a giant fan.
I moved it to HD bay 2, at the back, and the vibrations have been reduced but still v.annoying!

Discussed it with the retailer today, and we're swapping this Scorpio Black for another one sometime this week, hopefully it's a HD fault.

    Insulation/Holding Racks.
Did you guys get any form of insulation between the HD and chassis? I susspect the lack of, might be the cause of the problem.
    • Bay 1 (under the trackpad) had a clear plastic sheet, with 2 very thin insulation strips. No holding rack, HD was fairly loose.
    • Bay 2 (back) has a small plastic rack which holds the top half of the HD inplace when screwed. Lets the bottom half pivot up tho, and probably touches this chassis hatch.

    Just ran 3dmark Vantage.

    Score: P11078

    graphics score: 10032
    cpu score: 16120

Is this low? I have the i7 3610QM CPU (and of course the gtx 660m)

Also, is 80 degrees Celsius ok while under load? (Borderlands 2, high settings, low PhysX)

Score looks great, higher then average for the 660M. 80C is also a great temp while under load, upper 80s for gaming benchmarks and mid 90s for really stressful ones like Kombustor then you'll want to look at alternate cooling solutions. You're right where you should be.

Hey I just had one shipped to me, the order placed on Sept 21. However it seems theres something wrong with memory (memtest86+ reports errors) and every day it may run into BSOD several times. How should I fix that? I am bit disturbed by the distance as I live in Canada. Am I allowed to break the seal and check the mobo myself?

Its a NP6370 with i7-3720QM|GTX660M|8GB RAM|750GB HDD|128G SSD. Really annoyed by the BSODs...

Run memtest with just one stick of RAM at a time so you can isolate which is causing the problems. You can typically just send in that bad stick instead of the whole computer to get a replacment.

Hm. I've been having pretty major issues with the audio on this thing lately. It seems like any vibration on the surface--even just typing on the keyboard, occasionally--has the possibility of disrupting any device plugged into the audio jack. It kind of comes and goes, as does the severity of it, but I've had everything from momentary bursts of static to obvious problems with volume or left/right balance that last until I give the laptop a couple of taps somewhere else. At first I thought it was just my speakers dying, but then it happened with my headphones too. It doesn't seem to apply to the built-in speakers.

I've already tried updating the audio drivers to no avail, and the fact that the problem is influenced by the physical state of the computer strongly suggests a hardware issue anyway. Maybe there's a loose connection or something. Either way, I'm not sure if it's a problem with my individual laptop or if there's a flaw with the whole line. Has anyone else noticed similar problems?
