Cosmetically to the exterior there is a new A Surface and that is the only change to the outside of the machine. FYI this is the Clevo W150HN

Hey guys how does this graphics card compare to the GTX 460M ? I want to play BadCompany2, Starcraft2, D3 and BF3 when they launch. I want to play all of these on high settings, will the 540m be sufficient?

Compared to the NP8130, do these have the same quality sound? (I understand if this cannot be answered since no one has it yet)

Also I notice on the design is far different then the np8130. The vents seem to be on the left below potential inputs, could this warm up the cables? Are the other vents facing forward too?

    Hey,

For your graphics question check out this link for some benchmarks.
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

Overall, should it be able to handle things on high at 1366x768, yes it should, but @1080P it will probably struggle a bit on high.

For the sound, on paper it has the same THX software with it as the other new models, however, these laptops do not have the sub-woofer on them so that will effect performance.

For cooling, the main vent as you saw is on the left, the way the fan works is for the most part air is sucked into the case via the bottom and the front and then the blower exhausts it all out the side, but there are a couple of vents on the front and along the bottom.

    Thanks for the input mythlogic.

I think the GTX460M might just be better for me if I wana play on a higher resolution =] And the other system probably has better sound

because it's suppose to be an affordable descent notebook, the 555m will make it cost more, better cooling etc...

hmmm from what i get it's the same chasis as the 5135, so the sound is probebly bad the same way, don't expect too much, but again it's a 780$ awsome laptop, i don't think the speakers are a deal breaker, it has great hardware for a great price and you don't get 15.6" fHD almost anywhere else for this price.

it makes me feel really sorry i bought the 5125 5 month ago, this one is like 30% better...

How's battery life supposed to compare to the NP5135? Xoticpc.com says only 2-3 hours.

I'm rushed and don't feel like looking this up right now, but anyone have any idea how often this line of notebooks has been refreshed (new model comes out)?

I am wondering the same thing. 2-3 hours of battery life is rough. I thought that the new i7 and optimus graphics would be kind to a battery. Usually when a manufacturer quotes 2-3 hours, it means 1-2 in actual usage.

I have heard others suggest that battery life on comparable Optimus machines could be extended considerably (6-7 hours). Maybe the 2-3 hr listed is with the discrete graphics always on but not at full load?

It would be hard to believe that the NP8130, which has a GTX 460M (no Optimus) and also is listed at 2-3 hr, has the same battery life as an Optimus enabled machine like the NP5160.

It cannot be 2-3 hours... the ones with 460m and 485m last 2-3 hours,

and I think it is just a typo.

Along the lines of battery life, has anyone else noticed that all the resellers (Xoticpc, powernotebooks, etc) list the 6-cell battery as 62.16Wh, whereas the Sager site listed the battery at 48.84Wh? Seems that could be quite the difference in battery life.

Sweet, that has got to help on extending the battery life. Has anyone seen anything about the chassis (build material and texture) and how it handles cooling? Justin noted that the exterior surface was different, but I don't know what he was comparing it to.

This laptop has everything I've been waiting for in specs, size, and weight, BUT why god why there is no option for a backlit keyboard?!
Is there anyway of replacing the keyboards on these machines with a backlit one?

I actually emailed about this, here is the response:

"The motherboards on these new Sager units are all SATA II, so they will be 3 Gb/s as opposed to 6Gb/s. Unfortunately, I have yet to see a notebook machine with that SATA III capability."

Who did you email?? I think they gave you bad information.

Sandy Bridge supports SATA III 6Gb/s.

I will also confirm battery life of 4:30 to 5 hours battery life while running on the IGP, with screen brightness lowered to a comfortable level.

Oh...So the 4-5 hours is the IGP...Are there any battery life times for the system running on the 540M?

I'm still interested in the 8150, but here in Australia its still listed as coming sometime in february/march and thats quite a bit of wait. Hence my interest in this system.

It's kind of apples and oranges really...the 8150 boasting performance and what seems like a good 3 hours battery when working on apps using the GPU. Will be interested to see what kind of numbers this baby can notch up on the discrete 540M.

The 6 series chipset PCU has port 0 and 1 configured as Sata 3 @ 6GB/s but ther other 4 are Sata 2 at the highest speed. Until someone can show a screen shot showing that Sager has configured the PCU on the right ports to support the higher speed then this is just speculation.

is it possible to have a sandy bridge cpu on the older HM55 the np5135 has?

i know the ram is slower but still quad core i7 whould be a great improvement in performance compared to an i5 dual core.

No one needs to show a screen shot to confirm support for SATA III. In all Sager Sandy Bridge models, the HDD bays support SATA III, although the ODD bay does not.

This is confirmed...it is not speculation. :)

If this is “confirmed” then the resellers need to update the spec’s sections on their websites. This is something that a lot of people have been speculating on and asking questions about. It would even be a beneficial marketing tool.

Looking at the spec's of the 6 series chipset's shows they do support the Sata III, but that does not guarantee it is implemented.

If it’s published I would feel more confident this is the case versus taking someone’s word. That is the way that I am, nothing personal.

    Define "published"

A Sager authorized reseller for over 12 years who has written confirmation from Sager's engineer, who then in writing in a public forum "publishes" that it is confirmed that ... well, you know the rest :)

    Donald,

Published as in part of the spec's on your (resellers) websites. When you have it as a spec you know and I know that it better be accurate, and of course that being the case you should know the rest.

Edit: As in you don't want to publish something that is not accurate cause you don't want to have an issue with false advertising.

Looks like the exact same chassis as the Sager NP5125/NP5135, except one more USB 3.0 port. Unfortunately that means same crappy speaker placement on the bottom of the laptop.

I didn't know that. Do you know anyone in the US that could lend their account or something? Or maybe do an international wire transfer from a bank. it should work if you're going for the cash discount.

That's why I choose not to have a paypal account. I'd much rather just deal with Amex just because there are so many protections in place for credit cards. For the rare instances where its cheaper to pay cash, like a cash discount, one could always to a wire transfer from their bank, or possibly a eCheck from their bank too. When I ordered I had to pay a $10 fee to do next-day delivery of my money, but the fee is lower at $3 if you don't mind waiting three days for the money to clear. For me, if I had waited the money would have gone through after the weekend and that could screw me over in the long run as opposed to just paying the $7
