No this is a totally new 5lb notebook. The NP5165 is the updated 5160.

Looks more like a step in between the NP3101 and the NP5160/NP5165.

Yeah, this looks like the little sister to the NP5165. Makes sense that Sager/Clevo would want to differentiate them more by upping the graphics on the NP5160.

I might get this while I decide on an M18x, Area-51, or another X7200. It looks real nice. Mainly curious on batt life.

Anyone know why this is ~1/4 inch thicker than the 5160?
    Can the camera be upgraded?

For some reason in the specs for the W251HNQ they list the gt540m. I wonder if this chassis is a design update on the np5160's.

Does this have the GT 520M or GT 540M? The specs on Clevo website say it has the 540M.

Sagers site has it as a 520m. So does Xoticpc. I guess Clevo can change to whatever they want?

As a non gamer, but likes watching HD video, his laptop seems pretty darn good, even if it doesnt have the HD 1920x 1080 screen. Agree?

Oh, btw. I have the 251hnq with 540m graphics. Just for clearing out that it comes with that. I haven't had time to test it properly with gaming though. Plus it seems i have a problem with directx. Having troubles using 3ds max with directx and playing football manager it crashes when i use the 540m and doesn't when using the intel graphics. Hope it's not a hardware problem.

Not many people seem to own this laptop, why is that? I got it as an replacement for my older broken laptop. So far i'm happy, except for a fan issue that'll hopefully get fixed at some point and the above mentioned issue. But man the i7 2720 kicks , and the matte FHD screen is far better than the one i had on my m860tu.

Oh, and iopt44, you've probably found an answer for your question now. But it should work without the nvidia as the new intel chips have integrated graphics as you probably know. I don't know if any resellers offer this laptop without it though, and why would you even want it without it? With windows 7 using Optimus technology you can control when to and when not to use the nvidia card. Or just let windows control it automaticly.

Hey Lapatata, I'm thinking about getting this laptop too. Kinda excited actually but it's so hard to find out things when not many people seem to have it. Can you tell me where you got the laptop from? Maybe different resellers offer different graphic cards. I'm majoring in graphic design and I'm planning to get this laptop since it looks good enough and I don't think I'll need an amazing VGA card for graphic design anyway.

Also, what do you think of the build quality in general because I read that some people experienced some flex with the NP5160? And what fan issue are you talking about?

    Thank you very much!

I got mine from a Danish reseller. I wouldn't recommend them though, I only got my laptop from them because they replaced my old m860tu which they kinda broke!
I use mine for rhinoceres 3d modelling and drawing in illustrator, photoshop etc. As said, I have the 2720 cpu which I would highly recommend for you because of 4 cores, which gives 8 threads you can assign to your different programs (4 for rhinoceros, 3 for illustrator, 1 idle for webbrowsing for instance). Or any other i7 would do. And ofcourse 8 gb ram, go for 1x4 gb if u don't want 8 gb to start with.

To me the build quality seems ok for a midrange laptop, it made of hard plastic, it looks decent, and they keyboard is good. There is some flex, but even aluminium laptops have that, just don't chuk the laptop down in your bag with a lot of other items, then it won't be a problem. It doesn't get burning hot anywhere, though it's ofcourse warm where the cpu is, but nothing that gets annoying when typing etc.
The trackpad is good, but not perfect, the surface doesn't stick to your fingers as some do, but the surface has the same texture as the rest of the laptop, that may be annoying to some. I don't use it much as i always have a mouse plugged in.
The placement of the ports seems rational, haven't found anything to complain about on that level. Though i miss a DVI output, it's made up for with a hdmi output and I've bought a hdmi->dvi transformer.
I've gotten an 1920x1080 matte screen, which is my preference. I don't know which gamut it is (how do i find out?), but it's an amazing screen, and i'm really satisfied with it.

As for the fan issue. It only happens when i stress the computer a lot, the fan goes to max speed, turns off, to max speed, turns off. It's not the noisiest laptop i've owned at all, but this issue really makes you notice the fan noise because it's not constant. I sincerely hope they fix it soon. (if anyone know how to, please let me know.)

Well, that was a quick mini-review, hope u can use it.

Hah that was much much more than a mini review right there. Much more thorough than anything I have read this past week about this laptop (Since all I could find was NP5160).

Hehe thanks a lot for putting in the time to write your "mini" review. It's actually amazingly useful!

Sorry to bother you again Lapatata but do you know if the NP3250 has a button to turn off the discreet GPU and only run the integrated one like the NP5160 has?

I don't think it has, but it supports optimus (if you use windows 7). So basicly it does it automatic, but you can also configure when and when not to use the discreet graphics, it's as easy as pie.

Just a follow up to one of my previous comments. The graphics issue have been resolved by the latest nvidia drivers. I've found a new bios update as well, which i haven't had time to install yet, but i hope it resolves the fan issue.

Where in the heck can i find a new lid and hinges for my 3250? I've been tearing my hair out searching for parts and can't find almost anything and certainly not what I'm looking for. If amyone on here has some ideas they would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

I was able to find the lid and the hinges on ebay being sold as a Clevo Zoostorm Novatech with the Clevo model number in the listing. Just a heads up for anyone else who needs parts for this notebook.

Sorry for the small bump, if anyone is looking for updated drivers, firmware, BIOS, user/service manuals etc for the W25xHNx series you can visit this thread:

Clevo W25xHNx Latest Firmware & Windows 8.1 Drivers

Note: At this thread it's mentioned that Sager NP3250 is Clevo W25xH Nx. This is wrong. It's actually the W25xH Px which has a different graphics card (540M 2GB vs 520M 1GB respectively). However, even if you have a W25xHPx or NP3250 you can safely use most of the stuff found at my thread with the exception of BIOS which is specific to W25xHNx series.

Yes since the vbios will be integrated into the system bios it will make a difference.

Yes, that's exactly why I said it. Who knows, there might be another slight difference that I don't know of on the hardware level but the VBios is definitely the most important factor that could easily cause a brick. From what I've seen though around the web and from Clevo's HP manuals etc pretty much everything else (including ME v7.1.60.1193) will work just fine.

If you unpacked it, inserted the correct vbios and repackaged it then it would be fine. Since the right one is out there it would be a lot of work ^_^

I know, thing is I don't have the knowledge to do that (even though I have the tools). I have no problem to learn these things but it's not like I have dual bios like my Z77 desktop in case I do something wrong and I don't want to brick my laptop. :p

If it's one guy I would totally trust to update the ROMs of the bios it would be Prema. But it's an older model so I doubt he will be interested in that. It's encouraging though that he is working on a custom P-HM/NP8 series bios which is from 2011 with a HM65 chipset as well. If that is done, any other same-era laptop shouldn't be hard to do as well (I guess). :)

Since you also supplied the NP3250 back in the day do you know whether there would be a problem if I upgraded to a 45W i7 (currently 35W i3) while keeping the stock 90W adapter?

Hey, I know this thread has turned to be mostly about updated Windows 8.x drivers for the NP3250.
But I'm actually trying to find updated drivers for Windows 7.
The drivers from the official Sager site don't have any updates. They're all from 2011. (Except for one)
So, that's why I'm not sure if the drivers here ( Drivers Search: Sager NP3250 - Softpedia) are the right ones, as they were last updated in 2013. I'm trying to figure out why the official sager site wouldn't have the updated drivers, while a 3rd party site would. Thanks.

    Check my thread here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/762286-clevo-w25xhnx-latest-firmware-windows-8-1-drivers.html#post9786462

It's meant for Clevo W25xHNx models which is almost identical to your Sager NP3250 = Clevo W25xHPx (the only difference being a 520M 1GB vs a 540M 2GB). Apart from the stock/modded BIOS you can safely use everything else. All those drivers are up-to-date & tested on Windows 8.1 but of course they work perfectly find under Windows 7.

The modded BIOS (link at the topic above) is the Clevo version of your laptop: W25xHPx. I could easily do a Sager one as well of course provided that I had the latest sager bios & ec. But that's beside drivers.
