So with a custom heatsink, is it possible like the RTX 2000s?

RTX 30 Series is quite a bit different in terms of the component layout on the board and the X-bracket/heatsink mounting, so it would need a custom heatsink fabricated or some kind of adapter.DaMafiaGamer, Duck W, Clamibot and 2 others like this. -

Probably more on the custom heatsink side.

Hey dudes. Looking at grabbing a new laptop here today and gonna be ordering from HID. EVOC is on the top of my list right now, and it's this model. My question is, how are the thermals on the 10600k/10700k + 3080 setup? Can it handle the 165w gpu appropriately, at least as well as an m17 r4?
-
For actual numbers, it's within the 60°C to 65°C range during full load on the highest end config if I remember correctly. I don't actually own this laptop, but this is what I've heard from owners of the SM-G, and the cooling system on the KM-G isn't any different barring some minor changes to the GPU vapor chamber. -
-
I must be thinking of zTecpc's version. -

@Dbentt I apologize if I caused any confusion. Hopefully I at least gave you another vendor to look at.Jaces9900, 1610ftw and Entropytwo like this. -

Please, don't shoot the messenger, but we just got this, regarding the new KM:
"Due to the shortage on various components including display panels, GPUs, Intel chips, audio chips, Wi-Fi, AC Adapters, and etc., all orders have been delayed and postponed by Clevo without an estimated ship date."
Worse, there are no RTX 30x0 GPUs and heatsinks available to upgrade the SM.
FWIW, we still have SM's available, with delidded and cherry-picked binned Intel® 10th Generation Comet Lake i9-10900Ks, Custom Prema BIOS, @Mr. Fox Thermal Design (aided by @jc_denton & @Papusan), and DDR4/3200MHz w/ XMP Profile @ ≯ CL16 RAM.DaMafiaGamer, DreDre, jc_denton and 6 others like this. -

Ouch, disappointing news
Double checked on mine. So glad I made the cut, mine is nearly ready. Shipping tomorrow or early next week (ordered right away last week, 10850K version). I should get it pretty fast since I live only a couple hours away.
Will post some benchies etc once I get everything dialed in. -
-
USA got the KM delayed ? Ouch, that's a bummer.
I hope an EU user will be able to check if the KM also has lcd overdrive factory enabled (which is causing overshoot / corona effect in dark scenes) or Clevo disabled it this time. Was really disappointing that Clevo did not care about this issue with the SM and did not come up with a solution to the problem. -

Foxconn predicts that the global chip shortage will remain until at least mid-2022
The ongoing chip shortage affects everything from graphics cards to cars, but a new report claims that stock levels will be lean for at least another year. According to Nikkei Asia .

Very sad that just when laptop gaming was having a revival global shortages and price hikes will turn people back to consoles.

Is this laptop worth buying before Prema comes out with a custom BIOS for it? I haven't found much information out yet on it anywhere I've looked. When I contacted XoticPC, they just told me their X170KM-G came with stock Clevo BIOS. zTec told me that they were waiting to even release their model until Prema's BIOS is ready for it, which they said was "probably within the next couple of months".
If I need to buy a laptop within the next month or so, is it worth buying this laptop and hoping Prema comes out with the custom BIOS, or should I consider another model altogether (like the previous model or another brand altogether)? -
From the perspective of an enthusiast, anything short of the best is unacceptable. However for anyone who isn't, this thing is a beast.
If you've never owned a proper DTR, this laptop will be much better than any other laptop you've ever had even without the Premamod BIOS. If you want a badass laptop that just works and don't care about manually tweaking every little thing, I'd say don't worry about it.
If you can wait though, get a version with the Premamod BIOS when they come out. It makes the laptop a better experience for enthusiasts and power users.
I'd recommend zTecpc's offering just for the thermal mods alone.electrosoft, raz8020, BrightSmith and 2 others like this. -

The Prema bios and some added goodies like thermal mods and delidding will then give you those extra 5% that will set it apart from everything else. On a personal level I have to say that I hate that dumbed down Clevo bios on principle - it is such a joke that there is really not one hardware related adjustment in the whole bios and it should be forbidden to deliver products that are closed down that much.
If I was in the US and looking to not spend that much I'd probably get a a KM-G from zTecpc with the GPU I want and from there on I'd upgrade CPU, RAM and storage. This should give you the best thermals and full bios capabilities and you can upgrade to better/more expensive parts when your budget allows.
As for the X170 being noisy I have to say that with CCC on quiet mode where the CPU is apparently limited to 65W is really relatively quiet though not as quiet as the MSI GT75 that I used before but then the GT75 only had a 6-core 8750H and would choke with the workloads I wanted , it also did not have enough memory as it is limited to 64GB.
So it is really not noisy at all for normal use but I take it that this would probably change for gaming so you'd have to check with the guys who do game a lot.
To give you an example what it can do with relative ease this is what I have running right now (10850K with RTX 3060):
3 displays with 2 x QHD 60 and 1 x UHD 60
3 x youtube streams 4k
1 x higher bitrate 4k 60 stream
500+ tabs open in Chrome
3 virtual machines running with vmware that I am currently accessing on the same machine via remote desktop
70GB memory usage mostly because of the virtual machines and the many chrome tabs opened
MS office suite running and a number of other programs
CPU usage oscillating between 20 and 50% with CPU speed on all cores fluctuating between 3.2 and 4.3 GHz
CPU temperature around 65 and GPU around 55 degrees
Try that with most other laptops and you will have issues both because you have less cores and because you have less cooling capabilities and all three other DTR that I have checked had inferior cooling and also even worse fan control then the Clevo and/or issues with fans spinning up all the time which the Clevo does not have.Papusan, DaMafiaGamer, electrosoft and 4 others like this. -

Got mine as a naked barebone today. As a (meanwhile 2) sm-g owner I read the other Thread for months and I thought it‘s time to Register and give you something back.
Although my „vapour-chamber-project“ isn‘t finished yet I had to get the new one too.
Nothing special to say about it so far besides the Bios got a new look according to it‘s silly lockings. Maybe the wooden-floor-look is designed as a second barrier against looking into the bios for more than 10 seconds.
Any questions about the KM-G?jc_denton, electrosoft, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
If you find anything worthwhile in the Bios let us know
I could not put a normal nvme SSD in the silly 4th SSD slot that apparently only takes the new PCI-E 4.0 SSDs - do you have one at hand and would you combine it with a last generation CPU? -
What screen do you have ? 144 or 300 hz? Can you please check if Clevo enabled lcd overdrive by default like they did with the SM-G? The lcd overdrive was causing visible artifacts (overshoot / corona effect) in many games at darker areas using the SM-G.
https://blurbusters.com/faq/lcd-overdrive-artifacts/
Ufo test : https://www.testufo.com/ghosting
If all 3 lines are slightly smudgy and neither of them have white line on the left side (corona effect ) then all is good. If you could take some pictures of the screen while running this test would be awesomeLast edited: Apr 3, 2021 -

In the past Clevo did a similar thing and if I remember correctly the p775dm3-g had lcd overdrive enabled (which caused an even worse overshoot then the one in the x170sm) however they disabled it in the later released p775tm1-g.
I am hoping they did the same thing and disabled it in the x170km-g. The 300 hz panel alone is fast, no need for lcd overdrive cheating which causes corona effect/overshoot. -

Hi guys,
I'm leaning hard towards the X170KM-G with the i9-10900K (EVOC) or the i9-10850K (LPC-Digital), 3070, 32GB RAM, and 1TB NVMe SSD. I hope you guys can clear a few things up for me.
1) As far as I read, Prema has not released a BIOS for the KM-G. Is this correct? Also, are there any major shortcomings without Prema BIOS, no offense clearly?
2) Are LPC-Digital and HID still Prema partners? Also I've been reading that ztecPC is a Prema partner, and Donald is now working there, instead of HID. Is this correct?
Thanks guys! -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
2) Second ? answer is yes...dat's me, and zTecpc is a Prema Partner -
2) HIDEvolution is still a Prema partner, but I don't know about LPC-Digital. Also, zTecpc is indeed a Prema partner and Donald does indeed work there now. -

In any case it is a ****ty thing to do, I should not have to get a stupid 11th generation Intel CPU to be able to use all the m2 slots in my laptop. -
-
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
So with 11 Gen all m2 ports will work? , they still support SATA on them?
As for 10 Gen CPU's surely it would revert back to how the X170SM-G was with one M.2 port being just SATA.Last edited: Apr 4, 2021
