I had the Fan-Rattling problem, but after just opening the fan-housing [only the very tiny screws holding the silverish-white plate], moving the fan abit, it went away... no idea what the problem was. Just be careful with the screws, lol. I dropped one on the floor and it took about 20 min to find it. x)

On a side note, does anyone happen to know how to remove the keyboard? I just want to losen it abit and reposition it slightly. There is a little gap between the keyboard and the bottom end, and for this, it it reaches under the top plate. On top of that, it's just on one side, basically the keyboard is placed at an angle

Its made by BOE, result from HWinfo is

    BOE HF HN133WU1-100

It's a good screen although thats entirely subjective as I don't have anyway of physically measuring it.. However, it has no dead pixels and 'just' the backlight bleed that other people are seeing but not as bad as some of the photos going around.

I'm still waiting on my plextor 256gb mSATA, 16gb hyperx ram and laptop slip case to complete so I'm using the supplied 4gb and 320gb hdd before I pimp it up.

hm, seems pretty easy. Any hints on how to get off that plastic plate without scratching it horribly :/? the keyboard is fully pressed against it for me, not the smallest gap beneath it

*Edit: Nevermind, got it off with some plastic tools I still got from my Phone-screen-replacement kit
*Edit2: Thanks, I only got it shifted by a very small amount (still does not close to the bottom end), but the gap now at least looks like a clear design-line and lot like a faulty product (which it is IMO, but nothing worth getting a replacement unit)

The plastic tools can come in really handy for most notebook jobs to be fair, always worth getting if you like opening a machine up :)

They usually do send two, one with Windows 7 drivers and the other with 8. Just put them both in an optical drive and see if they have identical drivers on it. They usually have different colors so it does sound like they send two of the same, but the way to check for sure is see whats on them.

Hi, I enjoyed reading your posts and decided I want to buy one of these, seems to have everything I'm looking for (except the battery life) but I had a question since it seems like the ips panel is no longer listed on the resellers websites, I was wondering if anyone has any info regarding the Azimuthal Anchoring Switch screen and maybe if there is a comparison, I really wanted the IPS screen, but since i only see the Azimuthal Anchoring Switch Screen available, I wonder how it differs. Thanks.

It's the same screen as its always come with. IPS is a licensed term by LG I believe and can't be used by other manufacturers. The screen technology is basically the exact same, just a different name. All the reviews you've seen on this site are in reference to this screen.

I'm wondering if anyone tried both Windows 7 and windows 8 on w230st, which one do you prefer and which one performs better overall (gaming too). I have win8 and after tweaks disabling metro and showing the button performs no problem but wondering if win7 is going to be better in games and overclocking etc.

So far I think Win 8 is more stable and faster with general Windows stuff, plus you get UEFI (not working with Win 7 on this machine). But I like/prefer Windows 7. I also had an issue with the SB Cinema software that would interfere with my Logitech G930 wireless headset and hang on shutdown. Uninstalled the SB Cinema and all is good. Other tiny little things too I can't think of at the moment. I'm considering going back to 8 /shudder/ but I just hate 8 so much I'd rather deal with the minor things in 7.

thanks for your input. Quick question: when gaming are you getting a mouse lag (when looking around - mainly in skyrim but happens sometimes in bf3) and by mouse lag I mean it skips for a split second but frame rate stays the same. Anyone knows why that is ?

Are you playing with vsync? That introduces lag to the mouse.

Meaker is correct. Some game engines introduce mouse lag if you have Vsync turned on, because of the way that it handles Vsync (typically, by buffering multiple frames before drawing on-screen). The Frostbyte engine (Battlefield) and Unreal engine (Skyrim) are known to do this.

Disable Vsync, and you should be fine.

    Question about replacing wifi card.

I have the intel ac7260 installed, I'm going to swap in a killer 1202.

The intel ac7260 driver install puts 2 entries in the Programs control panel, one for wireless and one for bluetooth.

In what order do I uninstall these? Or do I just run the intel driver package again and remove from there?

I'm trying to eliminate a driver conflict so I don't want to screw around, I want to get this right.

Unless you specifically installed the seperate intel bluetooth package then you just need to uninstall the wifi drivers from programs. Out of curiousity - why are you changing out? Got a 7260AC card myself and it's working fine.

Does anyone else's laptop make a very faint old-hard-drive scraping noise at low fan RPMs?

My machine from xoticpc arrived today and it seems to have no problems dissipating heat - and sounds normal at higher RPMs but there is a slight fan chitter chatter at low RPM for whatever reason. It's equipped with an SSD, too, so it's probably not that.

Bluetooth keeps conking out. Not just device disconnecting, but the bluetooth entries in control panel disappear altogether. Mythlogic sent me a new 7260 and a Killer 1202 to test out, same thing happening. Bluetooth simply is not working right on this machine, which is otherwise just fine.

That sound has been a common occurrance with this laptop. Some users have removed the screws and retightened and that took care of it, others requested a replacement from their reseller/builder.

Hi, sorry for bugging you, but I can't seem to find a conclusive answer to this fairly simple question. I want to order the w230st from xoticpc, and install a msata drive I already have. Will this void my warranty? Are there warranty stickers covering the msata slots?

@reapola, just installed a SanDisk 480G SSD too. How's it working out for you? I added some heatsinks off the pipe contacts as suggested from a previous post to see if it would lower my temps. Surprisingly I got consistent temperture drops (-7C Idle) and (-10C Load -> 70C). Over several hours of gaming it still maintained. My hypothesis is that the heatpipe is not best efficiency. And the secondary intakes and heatsinks added extra efficiency.

Won't void your warranty as long as you don't break anything doing so. So as long as you feel fairly comfortable doing so, feel free.

Try to bend the copper pins toward the fan so the air from secondary intake wash over them.

    Hi guys,

I think i have a few problems with my new Clevo 230st bought from Hidevolution. The problem is my power button is very strange. Whenever i press it, i hear a click but it does nothing unless i press really really hard. And even then, it won't be consistence everytime. Also, the system doesn't like to go to sleep, whenever i put it to sleep, it wake up immediately. Can somebody tell me what's going on?

    Thanks

I took apart my laptop to inspect the source of this little problem (it is hard to pick up the sound unless using a high-gain microphone due to the quietness of it) and just tugging on the fan gently made the blower blades move a good amount outward / inward.

I'm betting the noise has something to do with that (or generally insufficient lubrication) - but as it seems to currently have no ill effect to the laptop, I left the fan as is. It is slightly worrying in terms of long-term durability, though.

I agree, it is very slight. I am more concerned with the fan bursts. But yeah a few months before my warranty runs out I'll see if there has been any degradation in the noise and maybe get it replaced...but for now no biggie.

    To quote myself:
You can use google translator for it.
There is also a link to a German shop for the heatsinks in it and you can switch there between French and English.
Still interesting that these heatsinks/cooler work over several hours.

Hey guys, I've been thinking of getting a locally made (AftershockPC) W230ST since my NP8150's dead 7970M is still up in the air with Sager. If it -does not- get RMA'd (good God) I'll be going for this one. If it gets RMA'd, I'll probably stave off my want for the next refresh.

Anyway. Is the heat a real big issue? I find it worrisome to be hitting the higher 80s on load.. I'll be doing video rendering and maybe some light Maya work as well.

You have to hold the power button down for maybe 3 seconds, it is actually feature implemented by clevo to prevent accidental button presses. If the button seems stuck or overly stiff it may be defective though...

I used similar blocks on my G51. I recently pulled a few for the NP7330. It did help, but I won't see true improvements until I can mod the bottom plate. Still waiting on Sager to get those in stock...
