Thanks for the reference links. I have done all those and managed to disable nvidia gfx and enable backlighting control with ssdt and dsdt patching. Sadly, my hdmi port refuses to work. Did you happen to use connector table patching to get it to work? Guide for enabling VGA and HDMI in Intel HD4000 GPU - Graphics - OSXLatitude Forum

    Thanks!

What are you doing to reach 100C ?I only reach that with intel xtu memory stress test... sounds like you need a repaste.

Anyone else getting BSODs from a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION? For me, they tend to happen when starting up or resuming the laptop while on battery.

This thread has become a lot quieter since the release of the P650S series. Even the good HTWingNut has moved... :( Oh well, all good things come to an end. Here's hoping that we get a similar 13/14" aluminium unibody notebook with a killer GPU.

I moved to this laptop only because I wanted portability, that P650S might atract users that don't carry their laptop often, I pass myself of anything above 13" for a laptop. (I come from a DV6 6110sg, a laptop that also HTWingNut had ;), it was 15 inch... I pass of that nowadays, everything else, a desktop is cheaper and better in the long term)

Anybody know if the W230SS would fit in a 13" sleeve? I've got a 15" sleeve but there's so much free room -- I'd love to have a snug fit ..

    EDIT:

What features does Prema's bios have? I've been using the stock bios on my W230SS for a while but if there's any significant improvements I might make the time to flash it.

Head over to his webpage at http://premamod.com and navigate to the W230SS page. He's got a complete change log.

Does flashing your BIOS void the warranty at all? I can't seem to find it in any of the disclaimers, but i'm probably not looking hard enough.

You can always flash it back to the stock BIOS.

    I have a question for w230ss owners:
For those of you with the 3200x1800 display, how do you feel about it? And how is gaming?

So yes it does void the warranty? That unfortunately isn't always a possibility.

So, yesterday i did it. Repasted with coollaboratory liquid ultra.

Temps were quite high before when gaming (farcry4, wreckfest).

CPU maxed 90'c and GPU 85'c but not higher because on that point the fan kicks full speed.

    After repaste the temps are:

CPU maxed 80'c and GPU 72'c. Fan doesnt kick to full speed any more. Epic win.

On Intel XTU memory stress test (it really does heat up) the CPU went just over 80'c when before it went over 90'c.

On CPU I have -30mv on cpu and cache. GPU is overclocked +150/+100 and -6,3mv undervoltage. Memory is at max clock but core goes over +200 without undervoltage.

Just a quick troubleshooting tip that I came across for the NP7338; I've noticed that sometimes when I shut off or put my computer to sleep with the headphones still plugged in, the computer won't recognize my headphones the next time I start it up. From what I can gather online, it has happened to a few other people.

What worked for me was to go into the Hotkey folder in your C:/Program Files (X86) directory and click the InitHeadphones.exe file. It allowed my computer to recognize my headphones again and has worked like a charm since.

    Just passing on the info!

How much is this machine currently worth (used) with the QHD screen? How much do we think the SD will be?

IC diamond (diamond based paste, safe) or liquid ultra (liquid metal, eats aluminium and can short components).

I'd recommend arctic mx-4, easy to apply and quite good stuff. Coollaboratory liquid ultra is better (about 5'c difference) but harder to apply. Check youtube for repaste videos.

I just received a slightly used version of this computer (albeit in excellent condition) and I noticed a quick flash of light that appears right after the initial Prema loadup screen when turning the machine on. It happens just before I log into Windows with my password.

    Is this normal?

Anyone recommend a nice case/wallet for the W230SS? After something sturdy and protective to take the laptop travelling on planes etc. Everything I come across is too soft.

    Guys!
Remeber too turn on ACPIPM in the battery settings!
I've noticed since the start that my clevo was hot especially around the corners where my msatas are. So I checked the temps and they reached 60c in ideal to 85c in load!

So I turned on ACPIPM and im barely going over 46c

You can't change 1080p screen with a 1800p screen, that is, because they need an additional cable... somewhere in this thread there is more information about it, nevertheless very useful.

They are not outside the fact that the screen might arrive with dead pixels (I had to send twice back my laptop to get the screen replaced)

Also, Using MX4 as thermal paste works wonders and avoids all sorts of problems produced by exotic pastes, like the one that eats aluminium and the one that scratches components (the one eating aluminium is plain a no no and the one one scrtatching components.... it has diamonds, what anybody expects to happen to metal when exposed to tiny fragments of the most rigid natural material known? metal bends.... and scratches)

That was an assumption on my part, but this was incorrect; there's three different cables, one each for the different resolution screens. Get a matching cable and you're good to swap. The WQHD might be compatible with QHD, though the reverse certainly isn't true due to the shorter cable length and different position of the lcd connector; QHD cable can't physically reach WQHD connector.

    lcd············brand···res··mm cable··pin··type·········connector··········cable, part nr.··
    N133HSE-EA1····innolux·FHD··287.5······30··bottom left··LS150306-S02-TF-HF·6-43-W2301-010-K·
    LTN133YL01-L01·samsung·QHD··188········40··bottom right·LMC4005001-HF······6-43-W23S1-010-K·
    LQ133T1JW02····sharp···WQHD·283········40··bottom left··LMC4005001-HF······6-43-W23S1-020-K·

Don't have a QHD, so can't verify WQHD>QHD cable, but if someone's willing to take a picture of the QHD connector at the mb end this can be checked easily (populated " no pins (3x)" or not):

That video makes the swap look quite simple, but that's only true since it's the FHD screen:

The procedure is different for WQHD and QHD since these are affixed with rather thoughish double-sided tape, not the four screws. Panel compare > mechanical features:

I'm in the US, but I found the right screen here while searching for "W230SS". You can probably get the model number for the screen if they don't ship to Europe.
