No, but dropping the antiglare options leaves only four to choose from, and the EB_ series look like they're production runs. In which case, usually, recent=better, since each run irons out earlier issues; too many dead pixels is costly for the manufacturer too. So think it's either the N133HSE-EB2/EB3 or the M133NWF2 R0, of which the EB3 has higher brightness and faster response time. Still, without actually testing these it's a bit of a toss.

Not on this laptop; don't own one yet since I can't find a barebone reseller that offers WQHD.

Motherboard ( CMOS battery), bit strange for such a new system. May be it's simply a poor connection/fitting rather than the battery itself.

Hmmm. I have the FHD and it does have a single antenna connector. Maybe yours is hiding somewhere? I am also going to try and add a 2nd antenna for the GPS. I ordered a Tyco slim antenna from EscPC.com for under $20 shipped and it came very quickly. Of course, now I have to take the machine apart to fit it.

Guys, need help. What exactly does Native PCIe do in the BIOS settings (Advanced -> Platform Misc Settings -> first option), and why is it that Windows hangs when both it and the Nvidia dGPU are turned on? Turning either one off solves the problem.

Thing is, this happened all of a sudden - it was working perfectly fine previously.

The N133HSE-E21 looks extremely attractive to me at the moment compared to the stock N133HSE-EA1 due to the power consumption. That is a full 1.4W lower power consumption with no compromises to image quality or brightness. However, no Lamp driver is present.
The M133NWF2 RO pushes the power envelope even further by another 1W but the max brightness suffers considerably.

By Lamp driver do you mean for screen brightness utilizing the Fn keys + Windows?

Also how much of a difference would the 1.4W make in this case as opposed to battery life?

I'm about to toss my order in now, gonna make my alterations at a later time. If push comes to shove do you think resellers would take on a request to swap out out the monitor if I provided both along w/ the consent of accepting any changes?

Or actually is there a tutorial for opening these little guys up for prep, as I've never opened up a lid of this size and curious if there are any special tricks or tools needed. Last time I opened one up was my old 9880 Sager in which the back light wire was loose as it kept flickering @ max brightness but was fine 1 notch down. Never actually separated the screen from the chassis though.

As Meaker stated clevo MAY utilize a different style cable ( or may have misunderstood, and apologies if so) so really curious as to how to check on that as well. Or if anyone could clarify on it.

Anywhoo here's the config I'm gonna grab.

Was looking forward to wrapping and other things but after looking at my options I don't believe I'll receive it in time, at least with this option, I can hope to get it by Saturday at the latest.

    EDIT
    *******************************

Just put in my order, showed friends, etc, and now having SUPER 2nd thoughts about grabbing the 8258-S or even the 9350 given that its barely a 500$ diff for an insane difference in parts and size.

UGH hoping to just forget about it till it ships. Anyone else have that type of anxiety after they purchased theirs , or were torn between 15 and the 13?

If so kindly if you have time tell me what helped you feel better about your decision so I can calm down on my end lol.

Depends largely on what you're doing at the time. At Idle, where you may be consuming 10-15W, that's 10% of your power draw right there which could mean 30 minutes (which is not insignificant). [/QUOTE]

    You made the right choice.
The 13" is really not that small and I don't ever find myself wishing for a bigger screen. I previously had a 15" W350ET and don't miss it at all.

Fact of the matter is, the 860M/Maxwell is currently the pinnacle of efficiency. The 870/880M Kepler chips just eat way too much power and we won't be seeing them replaced until much later in the year.

I think you will really like the 13.3" laptop. I had mine side by side with an equally speced NP7358 and I like the feel of the 13.3" Sager way better. I am also coming from a 15.6" HP dv6t and I do not miss the heft or size of the lager laptop once I spent a couple days with this little guy. The Sager 15.6" felt bigger and heavier in every dimension compared to my HP so it was even more favorable going with the 13.3" laptop.

    On Edit:
You also have the 100% satisfaction 30 day return policy through Sager. So get it, test er out and see if it's a keeper.

Interesting. After further investigation, it's still not worth it for me. It seems that the benefits using Rapid Start would be if you put your computer to sleep often which I normally do not. From my understanding, Rapid Start takes advantage of data cached to memory and then reopened once the computer is restarted out of sleep state. I don't use my laptop in this fashion so it would be worthless to me. I'm glad it's an added feature that's available nonetheless if I ever change my mind about it. Nice to hear you got better temps too.

I concur with 1080p being "enough" for such a small screen. PPI at this size and resolution is at 165.63 which is slightly higher than a 28 inch 4K panel (156.73 PPI). Though not a fair comparison but it's just to give perspective.

As far as the clock going haywire even from BIOS, seems like your CMOS battery is going bad. I'd recommend trying out a new one to test it. The battery is located next to the Wifi card when you open the back panel.

Either the CMOS battery is bad or there is an issue with the timing circuit on the motherboard.

Is there a way to keep the fan in the notebook at a constant speed? I have the fan speed set to normal (via the fn+1 keys), but sometimes when I'm sitting in class and using the notebook the fan revs up and gets a bid loud for a few seconds, but then goes back down to the normal fan speed. So is there any way to keep the fan speed locked at the normal speed?

You can keep an eye on temps to see what is getting hot to kick those fans in. Most likely the CPU in which case you can use a program like throttlestop to lock the CPU down to a set speed/performance reducing how much it kicks in. Not good to keep the fans throttled directly as they're there to keep you system from getting too hot. If they want to kick in then it's good to let them.

    Hi SRSR333,

I've figured out why I can't use the Private Messaging system - I have to have at least 5 posts before it will be enabled for me. I apologise for the public spam :(

If you don't mind, I can help you with your guide even if your files are half baked. I'll get my laptop soon and the sooner we have a guide up the better it is for w230ss owners. Of course, if you're busy then that's fine too.

Hey guys, I will be purchasing a 230SS in the next coming weeks. I am wondering what kind of thermal paste to get. I heard the IC Diamond Thermal Compound can cause scratches on the applied surface overtime.. Anyone know if this is true? Thanks

We have heard that is true, but its not to a point where there is any detrimental effect and its hard to beat how reliable it is. Its still the one we recommend.

Hey Guys, glad to be apart of the Sager club.

I recently bought this machine and it's been working well.

I'm having this random problem where the machine makes these loud beeps and the caps lock, num lock and scroll lock blinks.

Fans ramp up and then die down... any ideas as to what is wrong here?

Ok, is that what you suggest for thermal paste? Im trying to give this machine as long a lifespan as possible.

EDIT: Can anyone who purchased from reflexnotebook confirm what: "IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU" means? Im talking about the - and the plus, is that to say they only put it on the GPU?

    Ah, no, that's just English punctuation. It's a hyphen/dash, not a minus.
From the Oxford dictionary, definition of dash:
    A dash is used

    a) in pairs to mark off information or ideas that are not essential to an understanding of the rest of the sentence:
"Thousands of children – like the girl in this photograph – have been left homeless."
My son – where has he gone? – would like to meet you."

    b) to show other kinds of break in a sentence where a comma, semicolon, or colon would be traditionally used:
"One thing’s for sure – he doesn't want to face the truth."
"Things have changed a lot in the last year – mainly for the better."

Ic diamond is good, it just needs a little care when being removed as diamonds are hard funnily enough and they can scratch the surface.

hey thanx for the input. i missed your post earlier.

well i searched around, but no WWAN connector on my Eurocom W230SS QHD.

can anyone else confirm that the QHD does not have a WWAN connector?

also, any method/ suggestion for adding WWAN antennas? there is a little empty space left below of the 2.5inch hard disk. will that be alright for stuffing in a WWAN anenna?

i am unable to figure out as to how to dismantle the screen of my W230SS.....

Managed to install OSX on the laptop:

    1. Bios settings:
    - disable dGPU
set OS to other in UEFI settings
    disable UEFI
disable CFG Lock in cpu configuration

    2. Install Windows, create extra empty partition for OSX

    3. Prepare bootable usb with Mavericks 10.9 on apple laptop:
From an apple device make sure the mavericks installer is in your applications folder
    - Disk utility, select USB stick:
    choose 1 partition
    choose GUID table in options
    MAC OS Extended format
    label 'USB'
    - Use Unibeast to create Mavericks installer on Usb

    4. Install Clover to USB volume, choose:
    install bootloader boot0af in MBR
    install clover in the ESP
    themes->bootcamp
    Drivers64UEFI->EmuVariableUEFI-64
    Drivers64UEFI->OsxAptioFixDrv-64
    Drivers64UEFI->PartitionDXE-64

    5. Install OSX from USB
    - Choose F7 to select USB to boot from USB
    - First start OSX install in single user mode (spacebar - single user, verbose)
    - At the command prompt enter:
    # mount -uw /
    # cd /System/Library/Extensions
    # mkdir /kext_backups
    # mv AppleIntelHD* AppleIntelSNB* AppleIntelFramebuffer* NVDA* /kext_backups
    # rm -f ../Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/kernelcache
    # reboot
    - Then start from USB again, start the installer from the USB and follow the regular installation procedure.

    6. Remove graphics kexts for proper startup
    - Boot with USB again, but choose to start from the newly installed OSX partition and follow the same procedure as in 5.

    7. Install Clover in MBR
    - Boot in your OSX environment (not the installer, but the finished installation) and run the Clover install package with the same settings as in 4. I used package Clover_v2k_r2850.pkg.

No sound, no wlan (I've got the 7260, no-go in OSX), no quartz, just the bare minimal. Now I'd like to start with the display (the 3200 one) to get quartz working. Does anyone have some pointers to start with?

    Thanks!

I think you (and me!) will have to put the antenna around the LCD otherwise it will be ineffective because of the RF shielding in the base. The service manual for the W230SS is available through a link somewhere on Prema's web site. One of the pages in it helps explain (but not completely, at least not to me) how to dissassemble the scree.

Wow, thanks so much for the mini guide :) Seems like the standard OS X install haha.

By "the 3200 one" you mean your display is the QHD+ resolution one? I haven't heard many success stories with that resolution. What resolution does it display as now?
The only success story I could find is here: Dell XPS 15 (9530) - Intel HD 4600 Graphics on QHD+ built-in display - Need some help - Page 2 but it seems to require a BIOS option that doesn't exist in Prema's modded BIOS ("Pre-allocated DVMT size").

Yes, it's the QHD screen. It works in the full resolution without the graphics kexts.

Thanks for this. Answered my question before I posted it. I damaged my screen by squeezing it into my carry-on bag, and the raised plastic above the trackpad has caused some permanent damaged pixels so the backlight shines through. OK when browsing the net, but really annoying when watching videos.

figured it out. extremely extremely easy to dismantel the screen. just do it from inside to out. i mean insert your nails follower by fingers between the screen and the inside of the bezel. it will just smoothly come off. its explained with a diagram in the service manual also.

found the place to fix an antenna. top right of the screen has an empty space. any suggestions on a good WWAN antenna anyone?

also suggestions for a good WWAN module with both 3G and EVDO, and if possible LTE as well?

i got a HP UN2420 which is a Sierra MC8355 for HP (Gobi 3000 chipset). however the drivers dont install saying that its a non HP machine.

Alright, I've looked at some reviews, but what are some opinions about RAM options

    16GB, PC3-12800/1600Mhz DDR3 - 2 x 8GB [ add $90.00]
    16GB, Kingston Hyper X CL9 1600Mhz - 2 x 8GB [ add $160.00]

    and hard drive options

    256GB Crucial MX100 Series SSD [SSD2 - SATA III] (SKU - SSD098) ( + 85 )
    250GB Samsung 840 EVO Series SSD [SSD2 - SATA III] (SKU - SSD081) ( + 120 )
    256GB Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD [SSD2 - SATA III] (SKU - SSD097) ( + 165 )
    240GB Intel 730 Series SSD [SSD2 - SATA III] (SKU - SSD085) ( + 200 )

As far as hard drives, I'll likely forgo hardware encryption and use dm-crypt/LUKS. Mostly because in case something breaks it's easier for me to pop the hard drive, put it into an enclosure, and access data. Sometimes, but not often, drives act funny to software based full disk encryption, so if anyone had problems with any of these drives I'd be curious to hear as well. If someone doesn't use software FDE, I'm still interested in opinions on these drives.

    I'm running 16GB, G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 1866 (PC3 14900) - 2x 8GB in mine. Got them from Newegg for $170. Works flawlessly.

Get 1866mhz if it's a small increase in price since it's the sweet spot but don't fret over it. Ram has the smallest impact on performance.

Dont buy the Ram in the resellers, it's 30-40% cheaper to buy it separatly.

You need 16go just for 6 cases :

    - Full HD video Maker
    - More than 2 virtualisation with VMWARE/Virtualbox at the same time.
    - Have a regular HDD and set a Ram Caching
    - You dont know the difference between "shutdown" and "deep sleep"
    - Get a false sense of security and show off with your friends
    - Like to lose money needlessly

Whats your case? Nothing of them ?

So 8go (2x4go) is really really really really enough for the next 5 years

Take a 2133mhz one, because the price difference between 1866 and 2133 is nothing. You can set 2133Mhz in the bios with the Prema Mod

Glad to hear it was easy to get access. Have all my parts ut haven't had time yet.

I picked up a Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC7700 from Amazon which someone else on this forum has successfully used. And a "TYCO Internal WWAN 3G GPS IPEX SLIM Internal Antenna for Notebook Computer" from EscPC.com.

i was also wondering if someone can suggest a good matt screen protector for the QHD screen. the glare is a little annoying, especially since I am used to working on matt screens throughout my life.

that aside, the QHD screen is amazingly beautiful.
