I installed the touchpad driver (Synaptics) from Sager and with its utility (usually in tray), you can enable two-finger scrolling, hot spots and other actions. It was clunky at first but this is what I did to get a macbook feel: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=9716018

Is the any noticeable power draw from a secondary drive? I would imagine an HDD would be off if I'm using an mSATA as the primary. It's either that or put a 2.5 sata in and use the HDD shipped as an external

Maybe half a Watt at the most per drive. The HDD will spin down but won't completely shut off.

    Also

Is anybody else getting their core throttled by 200mhz for heavy AVX workloads? My 4710MQ can't run Prime 95 AVX at 3.3Ghz all cores (it sticks to 3.1ghz though strangely will increase by +200mhz when I overclock the core by said amount). TDP is set to 100W and TDC is set to 100A. Temperatures hover around 80-85 at the most.

Other retailers are still offering the discount. I think it's a "while supplies last" deal.

Pricing is subject to change and with our office being the earliest to open of Sager resllers, I think, we just got our site updated faster. Sager pricing will have to be something reflected on all Sager reseller sites.

I know my 4810mq will only run at 2.99-3.09ghz when running all 4 cores hard. If I undervolt it to maximum stable undervolt, which for my CPU is -60mv, it will run at 3.19ghz and very rarely up to 3.29ghz maximum for a few seconds. It is supposed to run up to 3.6ghz on all four cores but it never does. I have played with tons of other settings in Intel XTU trying to get it to clock higher under load but anything I have done besides undervolting makes the clocks go down or at best stay the same.

At least I only paid $35 for the 4810mq upgrade. If I paid the full $135 I would be a lot more upset since it really runs no faster than you're getting with your 4710mq.

Alright guys, sh*t got real today. Despite the cooling in this laptop, I successfully managed to get the laptop to shut down by overheating the CPU/GPU - I don't know which. Lesson learnt: running X-Plane at medium-high settings on the bed is not a good idea.

Blocking the bottom vents will do that quickly, that is where the intake is. Always avoid using on a bed or carpet.

At a similar range of SpeedStep levels? If you've recently installed an additional background application it's to be expected it switches to higher levels more often (like an on-access virus scanner).

And isn't 3 GHz actually an overclock for the 4710MQ? With a -50mV and +0.5Ghz your power consumption would be some 4W higher (depending on core design voltage). Unless you referred to TDP up, of course.

Hi guys! Quick question. Has anyone found the "Headphone Direct" setting in the new version of control center? It seems to be missing. Or maybe tested to see if the new version still fixes the headphone sleep problem?

*the whole gaming tab at the bottom is gone actually.

By 3 GHz I meant the maximum turbo multiplier. For some reason, I can't adjust the core clock, nor can I adjust the core voltage (down). I can only drag the sliders up for these two. Only dynamic voltage can be adjusted both up and down.

The brand Sager uses can vary so its not listed as they do change, but most of the time they are Samsung.

Just to let you know In the end the guys at Xotic could not give me the old price for the 4810mq,
However after talking to Sager I was able to get the old price from them, and to my surprise i didn't have to pay for an Operating system, so I got just what I wanted!

maybe its nice if they take it and get it back but I live out side of the US any way, So any RMA I'm going to do will be 100% me and sager any way.

Received my NP7338 a little while ago, loving the size and build quality. Getting ready to install windows and drivers, etc. Just threw in a 250gb Samsung 840 evo as my OS drive.

Although, Xoticpc screwed me over on the free Watch Dogs game. I ordered the system on July 18th while the promotion was valid, my order details even state I should be receiving the game too. But apparently the promotion was only valid till July 31st, and because I received my laptop today, August 1st, the promotion has ended and I wont be getting my free copy of the game because they don't email out the download codes until the laptops are delivered. All of which I was never told until now. :(

Exactly! Instead of writing "while supplies last" , which is the excuse the sales rep gave me, they should write clearly, "if you receive your laptop before *Insert Date here* only then will the promotion will apply"

The free game played a significant part in my decision to jump on the laptop and place the order when I did, and I was under the impression I was going to receive the game up until now since the promotion WAS VALID WHEN I ORDERED...don't get me wrong, the laptop is a sweet piece of machinery, but I can't help but feel disappointed with not receiving the game.

We do apologize about any issues with the game. Unfortunately we are not able to send out the game codes until the computer has been delivered, that is a policy that we have to stick to The deadline to redeem the code was July 31st, once that has passed Uplay no longer will accept it, we just dont have any control over that. Moving forward we will try to be more pro active about letting people know about the end dates of those promotions.

Turbo is used only in short bursts (depending on <abbr title="Turbo Time Parameter">TTP</abbr> setting). It helps, but not as much as lowering the dynamic voltage, that would be useful for all power modes. Assuming a core voltage (factory set by the <abbr title="Voltage Identification">VID</abbr>) of 1.000 (<abbr title="your mileage may vary">ymmv</abbr>; not all equal <abbr title="central processing unit">cpu</abbr> models are created equal) the dynamic -50mV should lower consumption by 5W across the board, which is roughly your 15W vs. 9-10W difference ... Perhaps the undervolt has been reset?

Another thing to check; <abbr title="if I recall correctly">iirc</abbr>, using <abbr title="Integrated Electronics">Intel</abbr>'s <abbr title="Extreme Tuning Utility">XTU</abbr> disables the <abbr title="Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework">DPTF</abbr> driver, losing <abbr title="configurable Thermal Design Power">cTDP</abbr> and <abbr title="Low-Power Mode">LPM</abbr> ability. You might want to try different Power Limits and see which option has better results.

    Mobile 4th Generation Intel® Core™Processor Family (page 70-73)

    [SUB] ("<abbr title="abbreviation">abbr</abbr>" is an abbreviation for abbreviation ... GEB-ish, no?)[/SUB]

Thanks for taking a look. Unfortunately, this doesn't bode well for screen exchangeability; the QHD review showed the J_LED1 connector, but not in use. This means at least one additional mb revision, a WQHD's screenshot (and its rev. version) would make that conclusive. It would also explain the rarity of suppliers offering WQHD; the first/older revision mb's will have to be sold first before the 2nd production models become available.

If by "extra power connector" you mean the one visible in the pic.; think that's the camera/ccd cable. Or did you mean there's an additional splitoff from the lcd cable?

I have just purchased an NP7338. My laptop came with only one hard drive. (Non-SSD).

I would like to install a second SSD drive. Are there any diagrams, tutorials, or schematics available which might show one how to disassemble or repair an NP7338?

EDIT: Ok, it looks like I have to use a tiny msata SSD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cgtAcWSToM

The W230ss has a 62.16 Wh battery, and only gets 4 hours of video and WiFi usage on battery. Maybe an extra 30 minute from an SSD and CPU undervolt.

Yet there are ultrabooks and business laptops (with a dedicated GPU) that get 5-7 hours of video and/or WiFi with a 48-60 Wh battery.

    What gives?

Too many abbreviations... Thank god for Google. Right. What exactly do people mean when they 'underclock'? What slider do they reduce in XTU? Because for me, the 'Core Clock' and 'Core Voltage' sliders are at theirminimum, and can only be moved to the right, i.e. can only be increased. Some options are also greyed out. And where are the OC options in Prema's BIOS?

I order my laptop during the Assassins Creed promotion and I also didnt get my game. I was several weeks from the dead line on the game promotion since I did a pre-order on my laptop two weeks before it was even released by Sager. I was also pretty bummed I didn't receive the game.

While I do understand that is your policy, it's unfair to us customers when we are not told specifically about these policies, and we are left under the impression that we will be receiving a free game up until we receive our laptops. It leaves a bittersweet taste behind. This is the second time something like this has happened to me in the past 6 months (first time with Xoticpc, but this was also my first time ordering with you guys, and honestly might end up being my last). I understand that you do not have any control over the protocols that are put in place by Uplay, but we as customers should be kept in the loop about such protocols. Two other people have also stated they've faced the same issue as I have...I wonder how many customers have actually received the free game. Truth be told, I'm actually considering returning the laptop, even though I love it, just because it's a matter of principle. My laptop was supposed to come with a free copy of a game. And it didn't. Everything else is secondary. For example, I am a physician by profession. If you came in to my clinic for an appointment, and were kept waiting for a certain length of time (being under the impression that you will soon be able to have your consultation with me), and once it was finally you're turn, I came up to you and said, "I'm sorry but that's all the time I have for today, you'll have to come back on another date." You would be irate, wouldn't you? (Just to clarify, I would never do this to a patient). I know it's an extreme example, but the principle behind both is similar. Xoticpc promised a certain product, and they failed to deliver. It's as simple as that.

On another note, I downloaded the touchpad drivers from the Sager website, and I'm having a bit of an issue with two finger scrolling. It seems to be juttering and stopping, it's not a smooth scrolling action. Could someone help me out with some setting I can tweak to fix this, or is there an alternate/updated version of the driver I can try?

Try the latest from station drivers. I haven't had an issue with smooth scrolling though the inversion (with no option to fix) is driving me nuts.

Sorry , got carried away with the html {abbr} tag. Notice the dotted underlining; when you hover over them with the mouse you'll see what the abbreviations stand for.

Not sure why XTU doesn't allow underclocking, though the M series are 'locked', so perhaps all changes apply to Turbo only? Regardless, please try this experiment; disable XTU and use the DPTF driver instead. You should then have different Power Modes available in 'Control Panel > Power Options' ( with XTU these are greyed-out). First check whether you actually have the driver installed, it ought to be, but to be certain look for 'dptf***.dll's, there should be several (and/or look in 'Services'). The cTDP won't do much (there's no TDP-down in the M series), but using the LPM options might yield better results than XTU's undervolt and a lower Turbo clock.

Be sure to check actual idle clocks&voltages with HWiNFO or similar.

I suppose you're referring to the Performance, Balanced and Power Saving modes. I can still select these; they are not greyed out.

Thinking about buying this laptop. Have to wait untill Newegg authorizes the refund of my Asus N550JK. Only problem being is no Canadian retailer caries the laptop. Can you guys recommend buying from Xotic PC if your located out of the states? The 15 day return policy makes me a bit uneasy.

I'm also in Canada and thinking about buying it. I found a site that carries it with free shipping for Canada, and according to some quick searches, the site has pretty good customer service. Here: Prostar W230SS. I haven't ordered yet, but this is the only site I found so far that offers Clevo laptops with free shipping to Canada.

Does anyone have experience buying in Canada with Pro-star.com?

Don't think so, or maybe indirectly. See this thread for a screenshot. The others are profiles for all kinds of settings, one of which is the lowest allowed Power State.

    More background (skippable):
Together with this post (uninstalling DPTF) it seems the DPTF driver is now required to put the different devices in their low-power states. So if your system can no longer suspend or hibernate components then your higher battery drain is a logical consequence.

They look a bit dodgy but its the biggest repository of OEM drivers I know. They have drivers and firmware for just about anything. Just one thing I've discovered, Telecharger means download

Ok thanks, I was checking out their site, but I'm having some trouble finding the exact driver I need for the touchpad.

Do I need to download one of the drivers from the following list? If so, which one:

    Synaptics

Actually thanks for reminding me. I ordered my NP7338 back on 03/13/2014 (delivered 04/02/2014), and was supposed to receive a copy of Assassin's Creed 4 for PC. I checked the order and yes I included the required "FREE! - ASSASSIN'S CREED 4 for PC" in the comments box during checkout, and I believe I was one of the relatively early buyers of this laptop (meaning you had not run out of game codes at that time to my knowledge).. but I also never received the game. What gives?

Yeah I'm pretty bummed about not receiving my copy of Watch Dogs...and it seems like this has occurred to quite a few more than I had previously imagined. Really disappointing

The real disappointment is paying $85 for Watchdogs, 2 days after the listed price was only $60. Seriously, it's a pig to run, yet also looks like a slightly higher tech Saints Row III. It has a hard enough time running smoothly on desktops let alone laptops. If steam allowed trading old games, I'd gladly give you my copy.

    For anyone interested, VRAM is
    Samsung
    k4g20325fd-fc03

1.5V, binned for 6000mhz. I'm surprised so few people can reach 6000mhz on their VRAM OCs.

    Spec sheet http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/file/product/graphic_product_guide_nov_12-0.pdf

Also on that spec sheet, if anyone cares, to answer an oft debated issue, there's a difference between gDDR3 (modern units) and GDDR3 (based on DDR2).

Well, I can't install the DPTF driver - it says my system is incompatible.
