4K speeds don't get any or much boost at all in RAID 0 and those are the ones that usually affect how you perceive performance in a laptop. 512K are only slightly faster. Sequential speeds nearly double though, but really, unless you're writing large long files back and forth on your SSD all day, it won't matter all that much. It used was a bit advantageous to buy two mSATA's or SATA SSD's and run them in RAID 0 for capacity, but now that you have 1TB mSATA and SATA drives, it's not really an issue. And one larger one is cheaper than two at half the capacity.

So is it worth getting the 4810mq with this laptop or will the temps run too hot?

Personally i feel its worth it, especially for the free upgrade price. If i notice its hitting its throttling limit and max tdp too often i can alway down volt it and underlock to match the 4702mq if i want. The nice thing about that is a downclocked undervolted 48 will run cooler and slightly less power. I'm using this laptop for gaming and travel so I'm not too worried about it. I also plan on picking up a laptop cooler since this thing will be small enough for lap use. I even love the left side exhaust to help keep my coffee cup warm. It doesn't get much better than that! ;). If you were planning on using this as a desktop replacement or running 24 hours 7 days a week there definitely better cooled options out there.

Keep in mind the the tdp for the 4700mq and the 4810mq is the same so their heat and power profiles will be almost identical. The 4702mq would be a good option since its 37 tdp but its not an option in the u.s. from what i see.

Htwingnut's review of the w230st definitely still applies for the cpu throttling he saw with the 47 tdp chips. Remember he was doing cpu stress testing that left the GPU out of the picture. Id have to watch again but i would assume while he showed us the throttling he was on the igpu and the dgpu was idling or in sleep state (should be in sleep state from everything i read about optimus). None of that would be different on the ss.

I'm not sure what free upgrade price you're talking about but I'm guessing you're from the US and are probably ordering from XoticPC whereas I'm ordering from MySN, the price differential for between the 4700MQ and 4810MQ is £78 which = $130 or $83 difference with the 4702MQ. Why is it on the notebookcheck review that they only recommend getting the 4700MQ over the 4810MQ if it has the same heat profile?

That would just come down to price. You are right that I'm in the u.s. and right now they are running a promotion which effectively takes $100 usd off the price of the 4810mq. For you they reccomend the 4700 just to save the money. If your a savy enough user to undervolt the 4810 would would see some performance gain but when reviews are written they have to make the assumption that the average user if not going to modify the clock speed and voltage of the cpu.

Shoot, I just reread my xotic PC phase breakdown. Mine will get shipped FROM California via ground to Nebraska before it is reshipped to me BACK in California with the 2nd day air I paid for. Bummer. It saved me around $96 in sales tax but I prob won't be getting it till early into the week of the 7th now. :/

I did order it with overnight shipping. I had no idea it was arriving today, but luckily I was home.

    First impression:
This is my first Sager notebook, so I can't really compare it with other Sagers. Overall build quality is very good. Minimal keyboard flex. I haven't run any benchmarks or games yet.

I'm actually about to step out of the house to go buy a SSD (mSATA) to install.

Just got the Phase 6 update email...it's on it's way from Sager in California to Nebraska to be checked and shipped back to CA. It said 3-5 days from Cali to NE, and I'm assuming 24-48 hours to turn it around and get it heading back to CA via 2nd day air.

Anyone go with the asus slim usb dvd drive for it? I was on the fence on whether or not to get it. I saw a slim usb 3.0 blue ray player i was thinking of picking up. I just don't know if the response times are worth it though it was powered by usb which is nice.

Thoroughly enjoyed three hours of Titanfall. Handled it very well at max settings (-vsync) at native resolution (1080p).
I'm using a very basic laptop fan; CPU max temp. 78 C & GPU max temp. 82 C.

I ordered the Blu-Ray reader for $99 from Xotic with mine. I'm not sure if it's Asus or what it's going to be though. I'm hoping it is a decently fast drive though because I have had good, fast ones and horribly slow drives in the past. I could have probably gotten a better deal on Amazon or Ebay but figured I would just order it with the laptop and hope I get a winner.

What CPU did you order with your 7338? Temps look great so I'm assuming throttling wasn't an issue? Did you have turbo activated with those temps or were you running at 99%?

If you can let me know what you think of it. I heard the blue ray slim drives on usb 2.0 tend to be slow, i was looking at some 3.0s but they look to be full height otherwise i have to go non name brand.

Hmm. Titanfall has a hard max limit at 60 FPS. I would think GPU would run much cooler than that. Recommend a repaste, probably see a 10C drop. Try without laptop fan and just prop up with some bottle caps or somehow raise back 1/2 to 1 inch. Probably get better results actually.

Titanfall with my 765m runs 66C max.

I will do that once I get it. It's going to be a little over a week before I get it in my hands, I'm presuming. I was kind of worried about it being 2.0 also. The drives I was mainly speaking of were several different desktop 5.25" drives I had been using back when DVD was king. I have only have one slim DVD only external Samsung drive that works ok. It runs adequately quick. When I ordered it from newegg.com, I was looking at the drive above it which was the blu-ray/dvd burner drive I wanted and without paying attention I clicked on the wrong one and didn't realize I ordered the DVD only one until it showed up a couple days later at the door. If I would have gotten the Blu-ray the first time around I would have been all set and wouldn't have needed to buy yet another one for my 7338.

I ordered the 4810MQ. Throttling didn't seem to be an issue.

Thanks for the info and suggestion. I just gave it another go and replaced the fan with cool feet; and I'm still getting around the same temps (77/81 C). I guess I'll be repasting.

I saw the review posted by notebookreview and they claim the idle draw is around 10 watts and idle battery time is around 6 hours (4 hours when playing a 1080P clip) which is a step up! I'm glad they fixed that! I will still not go anywhere near it still due to excessive throttling and that bursting fan issue. Real bummer than can't get that right like Asus.

Can you try to undervolt & underclock your cpu at the level of a i7 4702
And also change your thermal paste for a better one?

The 4702 is def the best fit and its odd that its not an option, but i like having the option of getting a more powerful chip and down clocking it to what i feel is best for my laptop. I'm curious to see if this one fan will be louder than the 3 fans I'd run in turbo on my d900f.

True, but we don't have all the options avail. Didnt schenker in Germany have it first? I cant, i cant read german, but they offer the high res screens and more cpu choices i saw from playing with their configurations. Luckly the config we have here was exactly what i wanted. 1920x1080 screen, 16gb of mem, win7 ultimate, and the 512 Samsung 840 pro. I skipped on the msatas until i fill up the pro. I went with the intel ac dual band over the killer n card also. I fount intel cards in general seem to work with more wireless routers then athenos cards.
